Know exactly where you're coming from, my ventures into Turbo'ing started from Sufferfests, went to GCN/YouTube and then to TR... I was fully expecting TR to be Sufferfest but with live activity data. But no. It's more of the same (holding an effort, at least with live feedback) with no video so you have to watch something... Although to be honest I've not sat there with just TR and nothing else, anyone else tried that for more than 1 session? At the very least I'd need some fast paced music but would then run the risk of pedalling to the beat and not the power on screen...

I'm hoping that with the Kickr, I can actually turn on some music and ride to that, since the Kickr will hold the power in ERG mode. With TR I usually just put a movie on, but I find I still have to focus on what power I'm maintaining. It should be arriving on Thursday, so my first proper ride on it will be Friday night, and over the weekend. I can post my thoughts on it then. Really looking forward to it though, I've read so much good stuff about it!

me ? crash? never...! ;)

ha :D wonder if the olympic race track is book-able.. my brother managed to have a short race in some even a few months back!

Most likely. But you'll need to do some accreditation sessions before they let you do that.

This is correct.
But also, the fast you go, the smaller difference a change in speed makes.

If we assume that a pro TTers will average 30mph and take SDKs example of saving 60seconds over a 25 mile tt.
To save those 60 seconds, you need to increase your speed to 30.7mph

If a normal amateur can average 23mph over a 25TT and they can increase their speed by 0.7mph, they will save 2minutes.

For both riders to save 60 seconds, the pro needs to increase speed from 30 to 30.7 (102.3% increase) but the amateur only needs to increase from 23 to 23.4 (101.7% increase).
Ie. The slower you go, the larger the time difference will be for any increase in speed.

Just bookmarking this post so i can use it for justification to the missus when i buy a TT bike and all the aero kit.

"But darling, it's because i'm so crap on a bike that it makes sense for me to buy all this stuff...."

God dam multi quote!!

Still no word from PX about my Nanolight. Have been able to use C2W to order an Evade though so hopefully a voucher will turn up soon and I'll get that.

I have a pointy helmet but I do suffer with looking down too much so that's something to work on this year. Mine was second hand but never used and only £25.

I think FrenchTart needs to give a cat 4 race a try :) Would also be up for a cycling meet.

And you will be home xx seconds quicker :p

eh! should've joined my bro in the even then..

yeah, nothing from PX here either.. buncha ****! the annoying fact is that the money is taken :)

I find it hard to do more than 1 evening sessionson the turbo after work - I just don't have an extra hour (or more) to spare as I work 7:30-5:30 and don't spend enough time with my Mrs enough as it is... The low-volume plans are usually 2x1 hour weekly sessions with 2+ hours on the weekend. If I were to do that I'd struggling commuting (which I try to do 4+ days a week)

I really think you're overthinking this. You should easily be able to commute, do evening rides and longer ones at the weekend. Doing two one hour sessions will not stop you commuting.

 One of my bikes stolen from town today

Boardman hybrid, had 2 locks on it, both were attached to the cycle racks outside sainburys

We could do two meetups? A local and a more central one?

Quite a few members in London, a few Manchester way, and there's a small group of us down South. Might easier for those that can't travel far.

Report it to the police. You do get them back surprisingly often, but even if not it does let them know where the crime is taking place so they can put on more patrols and hopefully catch the *******s.

But still, maybe it's a sign that you should get a proper bike? ;)

Have reported it and the bike was registered on BikeRegister.co.uk.

Hopefully I will get it back, as it got me to and from work each day.

Been looking for a new bike for some time now, was always checking the previous road cycling essential thread.

Awww man! :( sorry to hear that.

I hope it turns up somewhere.

What type of locks were you using? Did they just cut straight through?

I'm sure I could make it down south if that was easier for people - though obviously it just becomes harder, logistically speaking.

Certainly did. ;) Not for the first time but it only crossed my mind today.

Whereabouts? I've kind of wondered about seeing you on my travels but as I don't really know what you look like or what bike you ride normally (and you don't spam your commutes on Strava like I do:p) I've not really got much to go on.

I would like to and I'm hoping to this year. Once I'm fully recovered I'll hopefully look into doing some race skills sessions so I don't crash and take everyone out on my first attempt at a race. I may try TTing also, though without a TT bike...

Whatever happens I imagine I'll still have the issue of all my bikes being disc brake-equipped.

That's because I drive to work. :p At the moment anyway. I'll start commuting once hours calm down a bit, don't fancy riding home after the hours I've been working recently. I drive a silver(ish) Ford Mondeo and I should say I tried to give you heaps of room when passing this morning. :D

We've just moved offices so I need to find out about bike locking facilities here too.

There's a chaingang at the Tameside circuit every Thursday night, and a few cat 4 races there over summer. The chaingang is probably a good way of getting into group riding providing you do the basics (like look where you're going and hold your line!). Could be a bit of a crashfest but I'm riding there the Sunday after next, so we'll see how it goes.

I don't know if UCI rules apply regarding disc brakes... I know track league isn't UCI regs for example.

I hope it wasn't you I road-raged at earlier

I guess you being in a car would kind of limit the success of my looking out for you on a bike ;)

Yep, BritishCycling uses UCI rules for road racing. It's barely ever enforced in terms of bike weight and approved components but I think disc brakes would be easy to spot.

There's other people who organise race, like TLI. I'm not sure what rules they use.
