There's a chaingang at the Tameside circuit every Thursday night, and a few cat 4 races there over summer. The chaingang is probably a good way of getting into group riding providing you do the basics (like look where you're going and hold your line!). Could be a bit of a crashfest but I'm riding there the Sunday after next, so we'll see how it goes.

I don't know if UCI rules apply regarding disc brakes... I know track league isn't UCI regs for example.

Ah, I didn't realise there were such regular sessions there. I'll have to see if I can get myself organised in April.

I wasn't sure about the disc brake thing and it's something I need to ask about I guess. I've read about differing levels of enforcement in different clubs/races. Hopefully I can find a race that is really aimed at beginners that will let me both get a feel for things and hopefully not be too strict about stuff like that.

Yep, BritishCycling uses UCI rules for road racing. It's barely ever enforced in terms of bike weight and approved components but I think disc brakes would be easy to spot.

There's other people who organise race, like TLI. I'm not sure what rules they use.

Hmm...doesn't sound promising. I'll check out the TLI link though, thanks :)

edit: Rules are somewhat vague but it does mention sportsman-like conduct so I'm screwed :p

I really think you're overthinking this. You should easily be able to commute, do evening rides and longer ones at the weekend. Doing two one hour sessions will not stop you commuting.

No but it'll ruin my legs! I'm only a few months into cycling 4 days a week and doing additional leisure riding (I'm including Turbo work in that) :p

I was previously only riding 6*4 miles a week (3 work commutes) for over a year. Now I'm averaging more than 50 miles a week and going to be doing more!

Now the days are longer I can see me 'finding' more time for riding in the evenings - but if its nice weather I'd rather be out on the road than on the turbo! :D

First world problems! ;)

Report it to the police. You do get them back surprisingly often, but even if not it does let them know where the crime is taking place so they can put on more patrols and hopefully catch the *******s.

But still, maybe it's a sign that you should get a proper bike? ;)

Harsh, but defo report it - there will be nothing they can do but at least it's logged who the owner is/was, where it was and when. The numbers and figures the Police keep are used by other people looking into statistics (like local councils etc).

Richmond Park unofficial ocuk TT?

I'm placing my bet early - on you (unless grudas crashes out and takes you with him)! ;)

Roady loves the multi quote!

A little too much! I'm trying to be better now I know it annoys people - and I've gone and done it again! :o:rolleyes::p

Getting out and about is definitely far superior to being on the turbo in terms of enjoyment. I think you'll find that as the days get lighter your average miles will creep up without you even really noticing it. Definitely get some fitness base stuff in now whilst you're still inside a fair bit (maybe concentrate on sweet-spot as you'll only be doing it for a short while).

By the sounds of things within a few months you'll easily be over 100 miles per week :)

I hope it wasn't you I road-raged at earlier

I guess you being in a car would kind of limit the success of my looking out for you on a bike ;)

Haha, I hope not. I did try to give you a wide berth.

I'll give you a shout once I start riding in and we could meet up since we're heading the same sort of direction.

Sounds good - I'm allowed to draft you the whole way, right? :p

I doubt I road-raged at you btw. Though almost every day someone passes me in a really idiotic way. On my way home today I had some guy pull a stupid stunt and then try to shout at me for getting in his way

Awww man! :( sorry to hear that.

I hope it turns up somewhere.

What type of locks were you using? Did they just cut straight through?

2 Kryptonite D locks, both bike and locks are nowhere to be seen.

Luckily I'll be covered under my house insurance if it doesn't turn up.

Turbo absolutely does not count as leisure :p

I have myself some bearings for my Fulcrum 5s. Lets give this a go! :)

That's because I drive to work. :p At the moment anyway. I'll start commuting once hours calm down a bit, don't fancy riding home after the hours I've been working recently. I drive a silver(ish) Ford Mondeo and I should say I tried to give you heaps of room when passing this morning. :D

We've just moved offices so I need to find out about bike locking facilities here too.

Do you work for kpmg? *spit* :p

Putting two and two together with the new offices on St Peter's Square...

Cleaned up my gears a bit. Ran the chain through the chain cleaner that i bought with some neat dirt juice followed by a rinse. Added a spot of muc off dry lube to the chain and rear cassette. Surprisingly the chains running very smooth again!

Finally got my toolset through the ordering process with Planet X so that should be with me in the next couple of days :)

The Sufferfest videos are pretty fun I find. That said, I really struggle with most of them at 100% intensity on Trainer Road.

I took a rest day/evening tonight and didn't go on the turbo. So hard to resist though :/

My fitness is lowish at the moment so I'm just going off cadence and perceived effort for now. I have looked into trainer road and it does look good

It's great and one of the best ways to help improve your fitness but it's absolutely not required so if you're enjoying things as-is there's no rush to change them :)

Arrr crap! Wrong size. By a mile. My research was poor. Back to the internet.

Oops!
Did you realise before you knocked the old ones out or are you now stuck without a wheel? :(

IIRC, the bearings I got for my fulcrum 7s were 6001s.

edit: just checked back and realised that you said you needed 6001s. I'll go and check mine now (I have a couple of spares lying around). Unless they sent you the wrong size?

It it's any consolation I just received my order of p-clips to attach new mudguards to my bike.

I measured the rear stays as 60mm and the fork as 70mm...and ordered 60mm + 70mm pclips....

So close...
