I'm looking for more expensive shorts as well, but don't really know which brand are the best. I'm guessing it's between Castelli and Rapha. I think SoliD recommended Galibier to me, but keen to hear what everyone else recommends. Coming from MuddyFox £4 shorts, so I suppose anything would be an upgrade :P

Not heard of Galibier... I think Thomas has some Morvelo, no idea what his experience has been like with them?

Depending on how much you want to pay these are great I have 2 pairs. Hunt around and you get them far cheaper

Good recommendation, have liked their designs for a while, just not the prices! Any hints where? ;)

What is the fit like?

Edit: Gabba WS jersey under £100 and the long sleeve for £120 (looks like black only), no idea what the 'WS' is though? Wind Stopper? Thought that all Gabbas' were Windstop and Rainproof? :p

Just bought a new Windstopper as my current Gabba is getting tired but at that price i suppose i could get another.

Can vouch for the dhb Aeron Pro Cycling Bib Short they have served me well for the past year and we're the comfiest I've had.

Wiggle sometimes drop the prices of Castelli Velocissimo Due Bib Shorts to around £75, I got a pair with some b-day money and they are also very good. I think in the past 2 months they have dipped to that price, so worth keeping an eye on. Although apparently the castelli badge begins to crack after time....purely aesthetic though.

these probably top the Aerons, but only slightly.

It's genuine, it's a local bike shop I've not visited yet as they're normally really out of my price bracket (and not open on the weekends). They're setup by the guy who setup NFTO and are one of the only local places to do RETUL fits.

Shame they don't have those jerseys in the Blue, I love the Castelli blue! :(

Good shout although when looking at the Aeron's sizing before the 'race' fit put me off slightly although I think it's more relaxed now than it has been previous years as they do a 'Professional' sizing now too. Limited colour options too :(

Yeah spotted them and may give them a try if I can figure out their sizing and returns info... Some great reads on their site too (with some serious undertones):

A few years ago I adopted the Napoleon’s plan to startle and confuse the enemy with which I do still love. To every irritated horn blasting,… I waved, like a 7 year old. It is still a priceless reaction to their fuming, steering wheel thumping anger. Mouthing a ‘Hi Ya’ with a princess hand flutter and open eyes. Turns anger to confusion, then frustration as they race away “NO …I meant….. , do I know?… a aw”

Best shorts I have are my Rapha ones, followed by my Assos ones, although they are slightly tighter and shorter, so don't like the look of them on me so much. I'm going to be going Rapha store soon and try to get a couple of pairs of pro bibs!

That's the old Gabba! Need to get yourself the V2.

Sizing wise, I think they size up quite well. and returns are free as far as I remember.

Ok cool, thanks. I'm looking at the XXL anyways in their sizing, I've emailed them asking for thigh sizes as mine are 62-65cm girth (which is why I have some problems!) :o

And normal Gabba prices are well outta my price range! ;)

Looks like returns are welcome just not 'prepaid' (like Wiggle etc), but that's not a problem for me as I'm after something reliable and don't mind paying for a branded (that'll always be in stock/sizes/available and not on the normal popular sites!)

I went for one of the long sleeve gabbas on that site as the short sleeve one i have has had so much use.

See I'm edging towards short sleeves more and more now I have my sportful norain arm warmers and leg warmers... It's been a while since I wore long sleeved (apart from my windproof jersey). Even in the cold mornings the arm warmers with a short jersey and commuting jacket were better than long sleeved (easier to regulate temperature).

On the bus home from work now. Always a weirs feeling when I take a full day off from cycling. My legs has better be grateful tomorrow :p

Same, 'lazy' day here too (got things to bring from work). Also means my legs should be fresh for the shop ride tomorrow morning! Goodluck with your long one mate, which day are you heading out?

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7958910 is the ride tomorrow, I know most of the roads although there's climb is near the start (7.5 miles in) and I don't know it! Fully intending on burying myself on it as I know I can probably hang on to do the rest of the ride at the average 16/17mph. We shall see!

Clean the bike tonight and take my mudguards off, give the 105 5800 a good run in too! I'm impressed with it so far - a much better brake than the tektro, so I've ordered the matching 105 one for the front, Wiggle love me atm - had around 5 packages delivered this week lol ;)

Possibly riding it with my neighbour who's been riding Cheddar this week several times, fully expecting to get my ass handed to me! Lol :o

Having the day off today I decided to go test some road bikes. After trying a few I decided on the Giant Propel Advanced 2 - which I had had my eye on for a few weeks before posting, along with the bit of discount I thought it was a good buy. With being tall it just felt right and the reach was very comfortable. Looking forward to testing it out :) Any recommendations on some decent pedals? TIA
