Great solo ride this morning. Just under 40 miles, a bit over 2000 feet of climbing, most of it in the first half, then a lot of flat ground for going quickly. I averaged 16mph overall. I'd set out to take a PR on this long hilly loop and I managed to take 16s out of it, though that isn't much considering you're talking about a segment that takes me 49 minutes. I paced myself on the hills fairly well, but I could have gone a bit quicker in places, and probably a bit quicker on the descents as well. I tried to keep my heart rate down and my cadence up, which helped a bit as it meant I could then actually make some progress when I got to the top of the hills rather than having to slow right down to recover. I overtook a couple of people on the climbs, which felt pretty good, though I did then get overtaken on the flat by some guy in casual clothes with a rucksack on, riding a Triban 3, when I was already doing 21mph, so I guess you can't win them all!

I've done over 150 miles and nearly 8000 feet this week, which makes it my toughest week by a long way.

What a great morning for riding. Once the cloud peeled off was down to Base Layer and short sleeve jersey. Just a little spinner first thing for me to keep the legs going, altho ended up being more than planned and used it as a fasted ride so last few miles were tiring!

Club run tomorrow then probably head out Monday for some miles with a couple of mates!

I had base layer, jersey, arm warmers and autumn gloves. I could have probably managed without the arm warmers and maybe with just mitts. About blooming time, it is nearly June!

I just keep thinking about how nice easter weekend was! Riding short sleeve after delayering a jacket, arm, knee warmers. Didn't have any space to put anything had to utilise my bottles!

Todays ride.

Fairly happy with this, solo ride & at 55 miles had knee problems which meant I couldn't put any real power into the bike so just took it easy.
Final total for the day was 108 miles, but I forgot to restart the Garmin at 65 miles when I stopped to get a coffee. Took me about 7 miles to realize!

Plus side, I tried out my new Prolite wheels today, mmmmmmm very nice!
Roll well, & they just feel well built, braking surface feels much better although that could just be my old wheels bieng 2 years old !!

Evening.

I've recently dug the road bike out of the shed but it's in need of some tlc, I'm therefore a bit of advice.

I've a 2010 Allez Elite with a Tiagra 2x9 setup. Both the front and rear derailleurs have seen better days, they're both bent and I'm getting all sorts of shifting issues. I've looked for replacement derailleurs but new Tiagra kit is 10 speed. So questions ...

1) Should I replace both derailleurs with 9 speed Sora stuff instead, I assume that's compatible with my shifters?

2) The Rose website hints that the new Tiagra kit is 8/9/10 speed compatible, is that the case? The Shimano website doesn't help. Again if so will that work OK with my older shifters?

3) Have I missed a trick somewhere?

Cheers
