SPD - 2 bolts. I chose the Shimano M520 pedals, on the basis that the cleats may be easier to walk in. I'll have a look at the ones you have said about, cheers Von :)

If easy walking off the bike is a key factor then those shoes aren't the ones you want.

Touring shoes are probably your best bet - take a look at Shimano RT82 shoes - £63 at Wiggle.

Well just invested in a new front wheel!

Hed 3C Tri Spoke bagged for £200! Gonna go pick it up tomorrow, will give it a first race on Tuesday! Can't wait to give it a go!

Shoes are such a personal fit that it's best to just go try a lot. I thought I'd be good ordering multiple sizes of same model but found I was in between sizes... then I tried many shops and never found anything great. Took another gamble on two sizes of Mavic Rush for £75 and settled on them.

Give lots a try. Check the length by taking the insole out and seeing your foot fits then make sure you have some toe wiggle room and that your heel does not slip.

Having the day off today I decided to go test some road bikes. After trying a few I decided on the Giant Propel Advanced 2 - which I had had my eye on for a few weeks before posting, along with the bit of discount I thought it was a good buy. With being tall it just felt right and the reach was very comfortable. Looking forward to testing it out :) Any recommendations on some decent pedals? TIA

Which other bikes did you test?

Cheers. I'm actually not feeling too bad today. Lots of appropriate nutrition when I got in and a quick go on the foam roller helped a lot I think.

I kind of thought I'd done enough prep for this given my 140 a few weeks ago and various imperials/high mileage. Apparently not :p

I think the pace may be why it was so painful to be honest. We all promised ourselves to take it easy but our speed kept on creeping back up. Luckily, all the puncture stops/etc made it so we still got home super late :p

Some distance that! I've I lay ever did 100 and that was a mental challenge. 200 must be so hard.

Did a ride on the mtb today with the gf. Crap weather and kept to a doable pace for a change.

The cleat nut/plate? Come out as in... lost? Or moved out of position? Because those are meant to be able to move, sometimes they move so that the threads aren't aligned with the slots in the shoes any more. Just lift up the sole and adjust them. If they're actually lost or damaged, i think cleats usually come with spares. At least mine did. The one set i've bought.

The top cleat bolt just snapped off on my Northwave shoes. The threaded part has come out of the shoe. Anyone know what I can do?

had a few of these returned with the same issues, seems like a manufacturing fault. Return them with proof of purchase to were you bought them., You ll probably get a full refund as IRide don't have any stock with which to replace.

It's the little threaded part that sits in the sole of the shoe which was come out. No chance of getting to it through the shoe either as the undersole is impossibly glued down.

Cheers, will have to try that then. Massive pain as I have a big event coming up next weekend.

How are people doing for their 2015 targets so far?

One of mine was to climb a load more (I think I was hoping for 250k feet vs 2014 160k feet). So far I'm up to 100k so it's not going too badly but I'm going to need to step things up a lot I think.

I was aiming to do one metric a month.

Did one in jan, three in February, one in March and failed in April, I got sick, went away and had a couple of busy weekends, the most I did was 90.

75 is the most so far this month, aiming to do one on Saturday and get back into it!

I'm up about 80 miles on this time last year, but down on climbing. Average speed is a bit higher, which is probably due to the lower amount of climbing. Endurance is improving - I'm doing more longer rides. I've done two metrics so far this year and have more planned. I've yet to start riding to work, but I have built a bike from the frame up. I'm riding to some more varied places, as hoped.

A mixed bag, really.

Only 1200 miles YTD but I only rode 1900 miles all last year so I'm happy enough so far. I don't record my track and turbo sessions in Strava so true distance is probably a bit higher. If I hit 3000 miles by year end I'd be delighted.
