Mechanical discs tho :/ Have to go hydraulics on my next bike, which brings me on nicely.

I recently had a surprise inheritance, and I've decided to use some of the money to change my road bike. It's a little too small for me, and the geometry doesn't really suit me for longer rides. It's the perfect size for a work colleague, so I'm hoping to recoup some it's cost.

Personally, I really like FT's custom build, a carbon road bike with hydraulic discs at a reasonable price. However, I wouldn't have a clue which frame to buy, and I don't have the skills to build it. I'm not sure how much it would cost to get someone else to build, or whether that's feasible.

So, I wondered what bike you guys might recommend I take a look at. Ideally, like to spend between £1,500 - £3,000 max. I'm coming from a Planet-X Pro Carbon.

Thanks :)

It doesn't half grind my gears how e-tailers change their prices like they change their underwear. A jersey I was looking at has increased £10 since I've driven home.

My brother bought them... Wouldn't buy again tbh :) get some "bolle" glasses from eBay! On my 3rd pair now and they're great.

Thank you I'll check them out now.

Are they prescription glasses? As that's what I need. I'd buy a really decent pair if I didn't need my own lenses, but the cost of my lenses on top push up the spending which is what I don't want to do at the moment.

To be honest I'm more than happy to talk you through all the stuff you need and point you at the right sites/etc. Assuming you've got a basic bike toolkit most likely the only thing you'll need to buy is a torque wrench.

Annoyingly the rain came early for us - got caught out between Alderley and Ashley and god soaked. And now I'm home it's sunshine again, gah!

I avoided the rain, but the wind for the first ten miles or so of my evening ride was pretty grim. Fortunately I turned South at that point and it got better. I'd gone out to do a climb that I'd randomly seen from the train window when going to Southport a few weeks back and fancied doing. It turns out I have done it once before, but nearly two years ago, so I scored a PR fairly easily on it.

I think I've traced the creaking on my bike to my saddle, rather than the BB. If I stand up and pedal it stops, and I can just about replicate the noise if I push back and forth on the saddle. I think I'll have to take it off and clean the rails and so on.

Also, I'm sure we've covered this before, but does anyone know why Garmin and Strava are inconsistent in terms of average speeds? For my 30 miles this evening, Garmin Connect says 16.1mph but Strava says 15.9mph. A bit silly but it would be nice if Strava showed the higher speed as well, haha!

Yeah I had the same with saddle.. Just put a very thin layer of thick grease and it'll be good! Garmin/strava issue is random.. I think its simply strava including the "stops" and dropping the average while Garmin actually removes the "0mph" and that results in real avg speed.. !

The ocuk ride for me on strava was 14.1mph because it added the 15ish miles of corrupt data and made it seem like I was at 9.6mph for that time.. ! While Garmin connect recognised the corrupted bit and simply cut off the speed from totals which resulted in 16.9mph - and that's what I saw on the screen of my Garmin.

Decent commute home through central london. 16mph average stopping at at everything. Getting faster every day, i enjoy racing taxis, prius' and dual scooters.
