I've got my frame back from the lbs with the headset cups and BB removed. The BB is rusty as hell. I assume there must be water getting in somewhere. Where's that most likely to be? Just wondering whether there's anything I can do to stop the next one getting ruined. Is it likely to be going down the seat tube or in through the sides of the BB itself?

Went on my first ride today, was only a small 20 mile local ride but thoroughly enjoyed every minute! Even when the pretentious **** Range Rover purposely soaked me. My butt aches a bit atm though. VON - cheers for all your help, I changed my pedals in the end for sdp sl Shimano light action ones and got the Shimano RO88 shoes, I thought sod the walking! I'm cycling, going to have a look tomorrow at the Garmins so I can venture a little further a field.

Oops, did my last ride before holidays and miscalculated doing the Strava climbing challenge for the month by 10 metres. I should have recorded my various TT warmup rides to tip it over. Never mind, quite looking forward to two weeks off the bike!

My BB is completely sealed on all sides bar the left/right cup threads - is yours open where the downtube and seat-tube meet it? Is your BB lower or higher than the chainstays?

The BB shell is open at the chainstays, seat tube and down tube, so I guess there's no hope! The worst of it looks to be around the non drive side cup area. Maybe I just need to grease the crap out of it when I fit the next one, or buy a better sealed BB.

I'm quite sold on the whole idea of ridiculous amounts of grease after my headset troubles. After the rains of yesterday and today the headset sounds a little clicky again to me so I may have to take it apart and clean/grease from scratch again. Rather annoying.

Do you not have the plastic tube that goes inside and stops water getting in?
You'll get one with the new headset anyway.

It's the bb, not headset, and it's sealed cartridge rather than HTII, so no plastic tube. It's one end of the bb casing that has rusted. The old one is square taper, the new one is octalink. It does make me wonder about just saying screw it and replacing it with an HTII one at some point as at least that was water isn't going to get trapped in there with the sensitive bits.

I'm thinking about buying a Specialized Tarmac as its basically half price on trade. I've test ridden the 56cm and it was a lovely ride, although a bit too small, ideally need a 58cm.

Is there anything else I should be looking at around the £2000 retail mark? Has to be from Evans!!

Nice and sunny out this morning though still quite crisp. I'm off for a ride up Blaze Hill, Pyms and Goyt then back home for lunch for a friend's leaving do thing. Really could've done without my body waking me up 2 hours early though :/

Went out this morning at 6.30am and did my first 20miles (1:22, avg. 14.48mph, 1364ft ascent) Not speedy like most of you guys but I'm too fat and unfit to climb any hills at a decent pace, but hope to get better over time. https://www.endomondo.com/users/3401856/workouts/532120198

One thing though, I'm finding I'm getting cramp in my calves towards the end of my ride. I got some free high5 electrolyte tabs from a Wiggle order so gave them a go this morning but it didn't seem to help. Any recommendations? Thanks.:)

Some bloke in a VW Passat forced me into a verge/eroded edge of road last night on a single track road in the middle of nowhere. I came off and landed directly on my right knee cap and it was stupidly sore! He just looked at me and drove off.... First thing I done was check the bike, small scrape on the brake lever and rear gear changes are a bit sketch now.

Knee still very sore but it's just soft tissue. I was full on rule #5 mode this morning setting out for a 50 miler at 06:30 but ended up shortening and just doing 25 as my knee is a bit sore but my entire body is aching.... I don't understand how my entire self is sore? haha.

I can't see why you'd need leg or arm warmers atm unless it's a lot colder than Manchester.

My legs just didn't want to play today. Fairly sure I got PWs on all the climbs I attempted - I just couldn't put enough power through them to even red line my HR :/ Gave up early on the ride and headed home instead. I'm sure the afternoon of burritos and beer that is planned will help my legs heal...

agree! I think it must be psychological or something :o reality is that I could put my winter gear(base layer) on and I'd be fine in this weather or ride like I do now with sleeveless super thin top and still be ok?! riding without gloves for now! got massive circles on my hands after ocuk ride in the sun! looks really funny.

My tan lines are ridiculous already too. I'm going to try commuting without gloves for a bit to see if I can even my hands up. I might even have to try a sleeveless top sometime  to make my shoulders look a bit less odd.
