Road Cycling

It was warm enough today to not wear leg warmers. But hey ho! It was lovely when the sun finally came out.

Must have passed about 50 cyclists today! There were loads out!

All you guys with tan lines! Im just a big woman who is scared of the cold. No tan lines here. Im sure they will be finely cultivated during the Majorca trip though :)

Tested the Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 (considering the TCR Advanced 1) earlier. Seems nice, and a little faster than the Defy Advanced Pro 1. I did get some back pains part way through the ride, but part of me thinks I'm just not that used to riding road bikes. Now I have a Giant Propel Advanced Pro 1 (considering the Propel Advanced 2) to test...

How does one make a decision between the two?

Is it only one knee which hurts? Then pedal with just the other leg ;)

I've done just that for the past 4 days commuting ;) mainly using one leg to get off the lights/speed up etc.. ! not ideal but my knee is getting better.. hills tho = get out of saddle/push harder on the pedals and that's where most pain comes from :o

re-tapped my bars..! nice and fresh tape :o old one was filthy..

@grudas - what bb do you have on your pompino? I've just taken a look at mine and the spindle is rusting after only 150 miles or so!! I think it's because it's a track bb so maybe designed for indoor use and never getting wet. The Stronglight JP400 looks to be the only reasonably cheap JIS bb with a 107mm spindle. It's that or I get an ISO square taper one with a longer spindle.

that's the one I have :) around 400mi on my pompino(lately been riding it to the gym and that's it) no rust or anything like that anywhere on the bike, only dirt haha :) on that note.. I wouldn't worry about surface rust on spindle..

Rose folks - is the Rose CRS di2 compatible? Cannot for the life of me find anything.

I would assume so as the RS frame has the option of di2. Give them a call and you should be put through to someone who speaks english and can give you a definate answer.

not really a cycling question, but just thinking about a camera on the bike, like Grudas and his Garmin, and the Go Pro's etc

had an email from tomtom with a link to this action camera

It looks nice but not £300 nice :) especially when you can get virb for £100ish! And it does the job really well! Plus Garmin integration helps with start/stop/photos.. :) virb 2 is mean bit of kit too but that will be around £300 too.

Great ride this evening. 37.7 miles of single speed goodness, which is my longest ride on that bike by a long way. Pretty fast at 16.6mph. Takes me to 420 miles this month, which is my busiest month since last May, as it happens, when I did 414.

Riding a single speed bike is like training with grudas, because no matter what the problem is, there's only one answer. Want to go faster? Keep pushing. Hill a bit steep? Keep pushing. Spinning out on a descent? Keep pushing.

Had my first ride on the Synapse tonight, left it pretty late so getting well chilly on the way back.

The bike felt great, really stable and planted compared to my old PX pro carbon. Disks still need a bit more beding in but already feeling very progressive.

The RideWithGPS almost worked perfectly, had synced hrm and cadence sensors earlier on but when I went on the ride it didn't record anything. Used about 15% battery for 1:45 ride.

cheap and JIS = Shimano UN55 from chain reaction. Shimano UN5x and UN7x (sadly NLA) BBs are basically indestructible.

I had a UN7x that did 2 years in a downhill mountain bike, 5 years in a town hack that never got cleaned and is now 7 years in a mate's loaded tourer with no sign of death

hrm, just checking the spec of each bit on the Synapse and it's a bit different from the brochures and sales pages. The callipers are br-rs785 instead of 685 and the cassette is ultegra instead of 105. doubt it makes much difference :)
