Gave Steve Hoggs cleat position guide a shot with some new spec expert shoes and spd-sl pedals and seems really good so far. I've had ankle and calf issues before so was looking to remove some pressure and leverage my size 46 boat feet give. Currently at 2cm behind 1st MTP but might try further to see what happens.

Decided to get out today as it looked pretty. Got rained on and had a head wind towards Glasgow. Cleared up closer to Glasgow thankfully.

Was planning on getting to Clydebank and turning back but a mate phoned me speaking about indian buffets so shot back to Hamilton proper quick. Felt good once I had warmed up and hopefully sets me up for Tuesday night bundy ride :)

Helped myself to a 3rd attempt at Whiteleaf today followed by Kop hill and then on for some other new climbs and finished up with familiar territory. Cut it a bit short as I hadn't put any sun screen on and was starting to wilt a bit.

Chuffed with my time up Whiteleaf, no stops & no falls :) beating a colleague at work by 4 seconds :p Kop Hill was also quite a good one, bit more pleasant but still a 20% section at the top. I really liked Aston Hill too, just a really steady 4-5% pretty much the entire way so great for pacing on.

Forgot to restart my timer twice, annoying, so will just leave it running and let auto-stop do it's magic. Missed the entire 3rd climb and descent on the 4th /rage.

(Actually 3,500ft but my 500 is a **** for under-reading)

Aston Hill is nice; that's what we use for our Club Hill Climb.

Day off work today (most Mondays and Fridays off this month, woo) and lovely weather but I'm suddenly feeling pretty rough :/ Hoping it passes in an hour and I can at least get out a quick ride up Blaze Hill and the Goyt.

Anyone got any tips on how to train/taper one week before a race? I want my legs to be at peak condition for next Sunday! It's looking like I won't have any opportunity to spin my legs on the Saturday.

I would just ride as normal for most of the week with a rest day two days before, an easy short spin the day before, maybe with a couple of sprints. Then race day. Would definitely try and spin the day before if at all possible. Doesn't have to be long at all.

Train as normal with one short hard effort mid week to stop your legs forgetting how to ride hard.
