Grudas do you use a GoPro to record your commutes? accidentally mentioned to my mum the other day about some **** throwing a bottle at me when i was riding home, she now wants me to record my rides. Not sure how long the batteries last on these things? i got a Hero 3 but tbh ive hardly ever used it. Is it possible to get a couple hours out of them?
Standard VIRB like me, I record all my riding. The battery doesn't last a week of my commuting (10*~20min rides, so around 3 hours is accurate). I find a 32gb memory card with the VIRB set to 'Economy mode' gives me around 6 hours of storage.
Heard of these but never looked into them until now.
They look pretty good! I like how you can remove the battery and pop a new one in if youre on a longer ride.
New battery = £25
External charger = £18
VIRB does take around 4 or more hours to fully charge (which is annoyingly long) so I'm considering getting an extra battery for mine. If only Wiggle stocked the batteries as well as the chargers

I rate it as a great cycling orientated alternative to the GoPro. It's cheaper (can regularly find it on deals, I only paid £90 for mine back in december!), battery lasts longer, integrates with Garmin devices (if needed, I've not bothered) and the editing software is fantastic. Recording quality is excellent (even on eco mode) and I consider it better than GoPro (my own opinion).
The only downsides which get me are - it's slow to charge. Accessories (mounts, batteries etc) are expensive. It has no internal memory (so you're reliant on your mem card capacity). The microphone is rubbish, it picks up every rattle, whistle of the wind and all road noise (making it useless to record audio when cycling). The new version of the VIRB is a different size/shape meaning there will be nothing 'new' for the model I have, I expect even the battery is different. The display screen is 'always on' which to me ruins the battery life, why display when recording?!

Overall I'm very happy with mine, I've used it in all weathers cycling, even sub zero temps with no issues. I've used it snowboarding and it's taken some knocks/drops with no ill effects.
Edit: Guy from my work is on a cycling holiday across Italy... Across the Dolomites to Lake Garda then on to Venice. So jealous!
