Road Cycling

Finally managed to get back on the bike after having not ridden since last September.

Hard to tell from one ride, especially as things like throat need to get used to breathing in that much air again without being in agony and I have a cold, but while being obviously down on fitness I don't think I've entirely lost it :) Hoping it'll only take a few weeks to get back up to 40+ mile rides so I can get back to joining the club rides on the weekend.

Yeah, but it peaks at 20%, which is no joke!

I've done worse, for sure.

Yeah I was surprised if that was the first wall you'd found! Kudos for not stopping! :D

This might be ideal for me, i wear glasses so something with a shield may be the way to go. I bought some cycling glasses for £10 with insertable lenses but im being priced 130 for lenses which is stupid!

The helmet looks beaut and has a visor, i need a new helmet so i might get this.
<snip>
Roadyyyyy, where are youuuuu?

What guards do i need again? :D

Visor might be a good choice if you're having to wear glasses but I would check in a LBS for clearance as you might find you can't get your specs on underneath!

AFAIK you can get perscription lenses made for Oakley Radarlocks, there are probably other cheaper glasses you can get lenses made for. Bear in mind my 'Chinese' Radarlocks only cost £25... ;)

Guards, I'm in the process of retiring the ones I've recommended up until now - SKS Raceblade Longs. The clips on the guards (which make them removable) will eventually wear through (The clip mechanism just not robust enough and poorly designed so tight clearance and tyre rub ruins the clips) and you're then left with guards held on by zip ties (like my rear currently). The time I've spent fiddling with them so far would have been better spent adjusting a set of SKS Chromoplastics (trimming them to fit). I'm probably buying a pair of them shortly as my RB's days are numbered.

The Raceblade longs were great for having removable guards but I'm coming to the conclusion that removable and long lasting are two separate things.

By that logic I expect you could bunny hop over the climb in question, yes?

Looks flat ;)

Based on a very rough summation from Strava. 2500mi so far maybe?

Ah not very far then! Tired of it or had problems? :)

its honestly not, every single one weve ever sold except 1 customers has ben returned under warranty.

Last time I posted this someone mentioned they fixed all the first gen issues.... its all 2nd gen stock we had.

Every customer of hours with a faulty stages is now on Sram Quarks and after over a year we have had 0 returns and amazingly, 0 issues!

Someone ( Vonhelmet is think ) was potentially looking at getting a new garmin cadence sensor?

iv just got a 510 and have a Giant Ridesense so the sensors are suplus, £45 delivered for the pair if anyone wants them. Its the new accelerometer style ones so much neater and no magnets required.

Trust me if interested.

Not to mention the massive variability in the actual readings given its only measuring one leg.

That's not really a major issue, as long as the person is using only those readings the actual numbers mean nothing, tbh they are well within 5% of quark/powertap readings so more than accurate enough for the people who will be buying them.

I had an issue with battery life but it was fixed quickly by their customer service.

Nope, not me.

I'm so tempted to buy a folding bike for when I'm on work trips! Unfortunately a couple of hundred quid (all I can justify spending) doesn't get you much!

But why introduce another variable in something that the whole point of having is to be a constant. Especially now that Stages are barely any cheaper than the competition.

" as long as the person is using only those readings the actual numbers mean nothing"

therefor there is no variable?

My rides vary in left/right balance anything up to 5 or 6%, and I'm fairly sure not many people are 50/50 all of the time, so there is a variable, and one that's always changing. That's a swing of potentially 10-12% and so for example in a notional FTP number of say 350w is a variance of up to 333w-368w. Thats a pretty whopping range of numbers which could vary very easily depending on how you're riding one particular day.

Want to ride the South Downs (100miles) on my CX bike next week, but I've suffered a few punctures on it, so was going to use some self seal inner tube to try to avoid any stops if I can. But I have no ideas what's good, found some nutrak ones on evans. 700x35. Any recommendations?

So what are the other options at that price point then? Powertap wheel? I assume that would be unaffected by left/right variance?
