Basically goes straight on up the hill at Carluke towards Morningside. Flat out until. You arrive at Newmains asda.

Dirty *******s left me on the front from Carluke for about a mile then they shoot past over the crest. They use and abuse if you don't know any better.

Aye, if it's like the saturday 9.30 bunch you just need to work out where and when to hang back. Personally i always like to get on the front at a couple of the trickier bits, just so i've got room to fall back - the kick into Muirkirk and up the Douglas Wall are both bits i'll try and get on the front for. If i'm on the back at either i'll get dropped and have a massive fight to get back on again.

Apply that logic and you'll be fine. That's all I do for hard bit too. Better to be up a bit and able to fall back than on the back with a big gap to close.

Matt from the shop should be out. He was the guy from the Apr on the mercy bike.

I keep getting attacked by bugs on my morning commute, but only in 2 specific places, exactly the same spot every morning. Literally like cycling through a cloud of them, it's really strange. I think they're thunderbugs, and right by some farms which I suppose makes sense.
Still, better than my old commute where I get attacked by far bigger things :P

Went to South coast for the weekend. I found it so much easier to cycle there, even against stronger headwinds and bigger hills. Back in London and I'm finding it tougher again... can the pollution really have this much effect?

Three questions.

1) I have a ticking every time I pedal, could that be the bottom bracket? Its coming from the crank and its one tick per rotation or three ticks at once per rotation if I'm on the power.

2) What CX bike should I get for the winter? Under £500 if I can help it, been looking at the caadx. There are some cheap barely used ones on auction sites. Check my Strava to find the data on my rides.

3) Hiw much could I get realistically for a 2015 1 year old Trek Marlin 6 29er that's going to have a new chain and cassette fit to it, cost me £430 last year. Done about 750 miles on it.

Ticks can be chainring bolts, tightening them up a little sorted my ticking out.

Truth is though that it could be anything...! Don't forget to check silly things - like cleat bolts on your shoe!!

Ignore the KOM as I created the segment to see what speed I took the roundabout at and it's not updated yet.

You know on PC you can select the part of the ride (drag over the analysis graph) to show your average speed for that section? Easier & quicker than creating segments! ;)

(1) I've got one of these too, I thought it was BB as I had a *grind* when really pushing through part of the pedal stroke. After replacing my gear cables the grind was coming from the front deraileur causing some chain rub. I've not adjusted my cable so I have to use the trim more frequently (whenever I'm in my lowest 2-3 gears rather than just 1) but it does mean I'm getting less rubbing in the top end of my cassette. I thought it was BB for a while and I will probably get mine replaced with a better quality (Ultegra) one at some point.

Heard there is quite a regular one with Giants which can be the mech hanger screws/bolts. Mines always made noise but I damaged the head on one of the screws very early on so unable to get them tighter. Don't do like I did and just screw them tighter! Get the hanger off, clean and well grease and then refit screws with threadloc (cheapest place to get this from is Halfords) at the correct torque!

(2) CAADX seems to be very popular around that price point. Personally I'm not a huge fan of the colour schemes so I'm looking towards Wilier (Love the designs), Merida (love the colours) and a few others... My choice will really fall upon what 105 setup with good discs I can get for the the right money when the time comes! ;)

(3) eBay and Gumtree are your friends, look for completed/sold listings and get a feel for what similar setup bikes sold for. Some local Facebook buy/sell/cycling pages may work well too - local pickup etc! Or even trade it in as you're looking at new?

Speedy ride in this morning, very few stops for lights/traffic so great average. Quite a bit of headwind, not major but constant. Also carrying a big pack (2 days worth of kit as going out riding later).

I love my CAADX, frame is awesome (although not carbon), but if I could go back in time, I'd choose something with mudguard mounting points, and hydraulic disc brakes.

Had gxp on my mountain bike. Swapped it out for a hope with gxp converters. Never had the problems again! But not cheap mind! But it's blue so it's bling!

Unless you have a GXP BB when it's always the BB!

Or a BB90 that wearing out in less than 1000 miles is determined as 'normal wear & tear' by the manufacturer... (I think Trek may have had a bad batch of them as the majority of early wear complaints are Trek and not others).

And wheels, I've had them making noises before that I was convinced was from the BB.

Good shout, my loose spokes on my rear really sounded like a click whenever I put down power.
