Square taper 4lyfe.

Doesn't help me much with my BB90 does it! :p

I wish there was one standard and that was it. Everything was standard. There is nothing standard about the current setup. Why does it need to be complicated?

Couldn't agree more, nearly every main manufacturer having their own 'standard' doesn't help matters. Although BB90 was meant to be one of the sizes most would be building frames with and look at the problems that has!

Progression and standards please!

I noticed that (hard to explain) but its like somebody has pulled a cord/thread around the whole circumference of my tyres just above the rim, I know pics would help, but it doesn't look right to me

Crack in the rubber? Have they been run flat at all? Probably worth following up with where you got them from or continental, could be a manufacturing fault.

on a different note, my brothers SS's rear axle exploded lol, split in half! 8mile walk home was fun as hell by the looks of his face right now :o

Too much power, or no grease/oil? Lol @ face.

I see Strava are using OpenStreetMap now.

Well observed, here's hoping some of the weird elevation they have gets sorted!

Great ride last night after work with my mate to blow some cobwebs away (mostly junk food from the weekend). Tried to retrace a route I did a couple of weeks back but my Garmin went screwy and we missed a turning... We got to a main road and headed north to rediscover my route, took another wrong turn (ffs Garmin) and we were getting weary (utterly lost!) so had to take the 'easy option' and head towards town (south!) before then finding our bearings and heading home.

We've started our yearly stocktake at work (counting nearly 2 million plants) so I'm considering dropping my bike off at the LBS on saturday for a full service. I'll be walking around tons while stocktaking so quite happy to drive for a few days to save my legs! Fingers crossed I'll get it back before the weekend! ;)

what's with dulwich paragon? I see lots of those guys around my area(near crystal palace) and they're quite chatty for what ever reason.. or super creepy, like the guy I OBVIOUSLY LEFT BEHIND(POWER) today, was just staring right into my bike and then my face without saying a word.. creepy :o

Probably getting annoyed at you trying to blow him away when he's on his recovery ride :p

They're a really big club and tend to meet at the cafe on the parade at Crystal Palace opposite the bus terminal. I've got to say, they're one of the local clubs that really used to boil my ****. A lot of them ride like bell ends taking up the complete road and I've seen them lashing out at cars. Hence me never joining a club in south London, because they were pretty much the only well organised one local to me. You'll see them everywhere, they go on a lot of organised rides, spectate at a lot of racing and they're always in club kit. Got to hand it to them for the organisation, but they're not for me.

my brothers idea of the "tyre is worn now"

he still got away without punctures?? weirdo.
OnlyLOLoneskidpatch? :p

or LOL48/16gearing? :D

Press fit bottom brackets weren't a good idea when mountain bike makers tried them in the 90s and they're still not a good idea now.

It is making me think I'll opt for BSA on my next frame and just suck it up in terms of what groupsets are available. Looking at the fitting videos for Campagnolo Power Torque and Ultra Torque has put me right off them, for example.

Personally wouldn't rule out BB30, as long as you keep it maintained I've never had issue.

I even ran BB30 adapter bearings in a BB89 frame for several thousand miles.

people have some very different ideas about worn, wasn't there someone here who was replacing chains every 600 miles?

I wasn't far off that with my first KMC through winter... (<900 miles). SRAM X1 has done 760 miles so far and looks like it'll do over 1000 (almost 0.5mm worn).

At one point I went through a phase of replacing chains redonk frequently but I think I was just doing something seriously wrong to my bike at the time.

What were you doing wrong mate, just thinking I might be doing the same lol ;)

That's pretty ridiculous. Londoners you see, stealing all our road repairs so you can get away with dodgy tyres :p

Couldn't agree more, was only there last weekend and the road surfaces are like really smooth cycling gold.

Replaced my chain recently, done 1500 miles on it. Changed my tyres after about 800 i think it were, done about 700 on my 4000's, rear is starting to show a flat in the middle, front looks new.

our roads are far from good haha! I've got some beatuiful patches on my way home but that's because the roads were rebuilt like 3-4months back haha! still lots and lots of super rough patches than can seriously demage your wheels! :)

no idea! hub has done over 9k miles but that's not something that should result in a 10mm axle just going kaboom eh! snapped CLEAN off right at the of the drive side bearing, no way getting the freewheel off either, no axle = tool doesn't work.. :/ he was SUPER peed haha, I didn't know what was up so I took the pee a little bit and he totally snapped and went "look at my back wheel, just look at it ffs!!! I had to walk home for 8miles and 2 hours.. grrr" kids these days ;)

yeah I always had that vibe from them! I don't mind you wearing your club kit and all that and it's perfectly fine but the riders do seem a bit eh? I've met some alright ones, met the creepy one today! etc! think I've seen a few wearing yellow/black kit with brixtoncycles on the back? guess that's another club around that area.

Probably getting annoyed at you trying to blow him away when he's on his recovery ride :p

pfth ;) he needs to man up and pwn me, I was on my SS for gods sake! and I still managed to leave him off the lights with my not-light-friendly gearing.

Lots of failure to clean properly (once per week with a chain cleaning tool and regular wiping of the jockey wheels seems to help) and lots of cross-chaining seem to be the main culprits. Also, in winter you've obviously got salt and grit on the roads to contend with.

I clean mine like once a month, even during winter months? cross-chaining is also a thing that happens way too often in my case :) never had a chain last less than 3k miles :o

I cycle more miles than you - so I guess I'm more saying I clean once every 200-300 miles. I don't always need to clean it so regularly but I do use dry lube so I also have to keep an eye on that side of things.

I got just over 2000 out of my last chain and could probably have gone for more but if I'm going to go out for a super long ride then I'll sometimes swap out stuff like that before it absolutely needs it as I don't want to take the chance of it failing whilst I'm 100 miles away from home.

yeah you do, I average like 125ish miles/week

I got them from wiggle, I'll dig out the invoice, but yeah I think they could be a manufacturing defect

too late, ordered them anyway!

merlin cycles are doing twin pack + 2 inner tubes for £65 delivered ! :D

I was happy with my GP 1's on 23c though
Merlin are great atm, were looking at their bikes last night, they have a full carbon 105 on mavic aksiums at £900, they have a Di2 full carbon on mavics at £1450.

Very impressive specs too.
