I am tempted, due to last nights mishaps, to get another trainer and she can have her own.

Means I'll get the Tacx Ironman though :p 20% gradient and 1500w max, I think that would cover it. On sale at the moment too at 570EUR!

That's not bad at all. I really want to move to a smart trainer but I can't really justify it given that my turbo training has dropped off a cliff this year.

In other news, I made it in ok this morning without my bike falling apart, so that's nice. I got passed by [Damien] who I've not seen riding in for yonks. He's braver than me so he goes a different route to me, so he just passed me and then he was gone.

Tacx T2180 Vortex "Tour de France" edition :P haha it's yellow and had a tablet mount thrown in for free.

So, sure it maxed at 7% gradient, but still, it was a bitch.

They seem quite reasonably priced, i had it in my mind these smart trainers were about a grand. This makes them tempting now.

Look down and there is a snapped spoke, a bent one and a big chip out of the frame.
She then tells me she left the allen key in by accident when adjusting the seat, so it looks like it fell, got wedged in between the frame and spoke as she's riding.
Claims she didn't hear a thing...
Ouch! Must've been a bit painful to see that kinda damage! Of course I bet it was 'your fault' eventually but try to console yourself - she did attempt it herself and used tools! You don't want to scare her off riding altogether... Easy fix for a couple of spokes anyway! How did she find Zwift?

Not sure she needs a SMART one? Something more substantial? ;)

Not quite sure why you want a 20% gradient turbo when you have actual european alpine climbs on your 'doorstep' unlike the rest of us... (Jealous!) :p ;)

Von; I hope he waved/greeted! :D

I cycled in this morning after my drive home last night took me 1 hour 45 mins by car (for less than 5 miles!). My language was beautiful. So many bikes overtook me, even a guy chatting to his mate and walking pushing his bike dropped me like a certain hair-colour baby. Meh.

Felt mostly 'ok', bit low on power but did it proper recovery speeds, but didn't avoid the slight climb. Sit bone area is semi sore and only 1 small saddle sore. My thighs feel fine but my right calf feels very tight, could feel a 'pop' on the tendon towards the top of the muscle. Not sure what I can do about it (felt it climbing stairs last night too). Feel almost like lactate buildup without actually doing any exercise on it? I bet it's just a strain on a tired tendon. Any way to foam roll lower legs? :(

Ride on sunday put me at 96 points of fatigue on Strava Fitness/Freshness... Check that spike! But fitness 50! :D

NFTO - Ian Bibby's win of the Manx GP (Isle of man TT). Only seen a few highlights but that average over that distance with that climbing is insane! No wonder not even Sky could catch that break! Maybe I should get his autograph next time I bump into him shopping lol :D

Ok, what do we reckon for decent 28mm folding tyres for commuting. Ideally for sale at Evans, so I can fetch them when I get my new bike, and ideally costing under £25 each. My fallback is ordering Michelin P4E v2s for £22 each online, so that's the bar that needs clearing.

Got my place for the Ride 100 confirmed. Doing it for charity along with 2 guys from work. Don't have to raise a silly amount of money which is good, and it's for a worthwhile cause.

She was pretty good about it to be fair, but still annoying. She liked it, I think. Did a workout on there rather than free ride as she wants to do intervals etc. so she's going to do the John's Mix 1hr workout today. It takes some getting used to picking the right gear for the right power bursts etc. so it'll be good practice for her.

I'm damn glad we just the alu Endurace on the trainer, if it was CF it'd have probably cracked the damn frame.

I may have some great rides on my doorstep but I also have a demanding wife, kids, dog and job which eats my time considerably :p

Still feeling absolutely rotten and haven't ridden in nearly two weeks. Have got a really bad cough that I just can't shake and I'm supposed to be going to the Lake District this weekend to do loads of cycling. Really not sure I will be up to it as I'm spending most of my evenings/nights lying awake at night coughing my lungs out :(

Yay, my new bike is ready to collect. I probably won't be able to collect it until Saturday, but to be honest I need to clear some bike stuff around the house anyway, there's no damn room for another bike.

Actually, I could drive to work tomorrow and then fetch it after work... tempting.

I'm looking for a decent balance of durability and speed, so they're probably both a bit on the slow side!

Evans have the Vittoria Rubino Pro for £15 on clearance which looks alright...

I found rubino pro's okay! grip is not the best, puncture resistance is very good and ride is okay!

p4e's would be my choice but I have been on my continental for 2k miles now, commuting through worst of weathers and still no punctures! rear needs replacing tho because it is getting a flat..

Lithiums? Marathons? Or you looking for speed?

Do you mean Lithions? In which case I wouldn't want them as a commuter as I found them pretty easy to puncture :o They do ride much nicer than the Kenda Kriteriums that my bike came with and they were even worse for punctures. Maybe the puncture thing is just me :p

I've used Lithions with quite a good deal of success on my winter bike, and I commuted on them for a while. However, I'm prepared to spend a bit more than they cost, as they can be had for like £12.

The Marathons Plus are slow, put them on my other half's and although grip is good they're heavy and very 'big'. Can feel the weight of them just rolling on the flat at <10mph but she wanted them bombproof and wasn't worried about the speed! ;)

Although they do seem awesome about holding pressure and being rock solid. In 6 months she's not flatted, jumped a number of curbs, ridden tons of bad potholes and I hardly ever have to put air in them. I used to check them every fortnight, now it's every month and they've regularly lost less than 5 PSI! Mine are closer to 10 PSI in half that time! :o

Good on her! Mine's only interest in the turbo is 'how long are you going to have that *thing* there for?!'.

Agreed, an alu frame was a good choice!

If your home life is anything like mine the dog is the first on that list! ;)

You don't *need* room! If you've got space to stand you've got room for a bike! It's N+1! Not N! ;)

Pressure retention is nothing to do with the tyres though, that is completely down to the tubes.

Interesting to hear that about the Lithions Von and it rings true of most peoples comments. Makes me a little cautious of changing my tyres as the only thing I want to improve is puncture resistance as everything else about the Lithions I'm happy with... especially the price :p
