It may not be pro but I'm putting a bell back on all three of my bikes.
This BBB one is cheap & cheerful. Works well as being rubber banded it's not restricted to bar size. Big enough to fit over the oversized stem on my Giant.
Is that Roady's spare rear tyre on your TK2? :p
Haha, been just riding the Cervelo recently given the nice weather. Had a puncture on the shallow wheels so just left them as is. Need to order a bulk load of tubes tbh.
Loving the hate, bring it on b*ches! :p:D

At least my rear never had a problem with the magic air (tm) escaping! :p

Innertubeshop.com for cheap & good tubes, more bulk the better!

on my 5800 105 shifters, there's an alen key nut at the bottom of the shifter, undo that and it'll all come apart(easy to put back) and remove the cable.

mine snapped too and got stuck inside the shifter, was the only way to remove it..

Cheers. Will take a look if I have to later.

How long do people generally find cables last? I've done 3500 miles on this bike now and I guess quite a few different weathers but generally limited wet/muddy weather (only a few rides over Christmas where I just really wanted to get out whatever the weather!)

What's the best way to check on a regular basis before it happens?

When I was reading about cable snapping yesterday some guy mentioned he carries a cable pack and a spare rear derailleur in his pack. I have to admit that did remind me of your saddle bag inventory! :)

Change my brake cables every major service rather than anything more frequent as don't really notice cable stretch with them like gears. Change my gears when indexing is iffy and won't stay easily indexed (usually every 4-6 months). Change my outers on major services. In reality my 'major' services are probably every ~10-12 months but usually tied in to something else - like once the worst of the winter weather was over, I wanted to change bar tape, tyres and a complete bike strip down clean & regrease. Changing outers obviously easier to change cables at the same time too. I probably won't change them now until october/november when the weather is rubbish again and bike needs a good full service (again) in prep for winter.

Gear/brake cable is not something I carry 'spare' as I change mine frequently and would change a cable as soon as it's even slightly frayed. If I was doing a FT audax I probably would carry 1 of each. :p

I saw these, do they have removable valve cores?
The Presta's I last ordered (probably a year ago), didn't. Worth emailing them to ask as they stock everything! I believe they even stock tyres for lawn mowers! :D

EDIT: Garmin slash prices on Vector 2's (£1200 to £900) and 2S (£750 to £550) and now do a conversion kit (£99) to convert from Look-Keo to SPD-SL.

Properly nervous about the Lake District cycling this weekend. Am wondering perhaps if I should have got a 32 tooth cassette, but its too late now! Everybody I am going with have 32 tooth cassettes, and they're much fitter than I am!

There's going to be some seriously hard stretches of walking my bike around! Haha!

my rear cable lasted around 1800 miles on my current commuter! :o snapped in the shifter while shifting.

previous bikes like the triban did over 5k miles without snapping before I upgraded to jagwire kit and that lasted ages and hasn't snapped yet!

my sram rival groupo is still on original cables with over 5k miles in all weathers and no snapping yet :) will be replaced because they're old and shifting is a bit off now.

As for cables can I just point out that I prefer to swap a £3 cable early and have crisp shifting, more than wearing them out and snapping them! The amount of time you can fiddle with indexing with a stretched cable is not worth it!

All I've got is the option of 34-25 and 39-27.

Slightly worried how even Tejvan Pettinger says 30% gradients feel like you are going to fall off the bike backwards.:D

Yeah, I'd say anything around 25% and up and you get serious front wheel lift... So then you shift your weight forward and OH NO THE BACK WHEEL IS SPINNING. Half the battle is balance at that point.

With the amount of money you've spent on replacing cables early, you could have just got Di2 and then never had to replace cables or re-index in the first place :p

I've got 34-28, but I'll be wishing I had those extra 4 teeth!

You'll be fine on 34-28 tbh. Even going the wrong way up Hardknott I could have finished it without walking if I'd a) not been dead from the day before and b) hadn't had to stop for damn cars going past (excuses :p).

Once you stop you're utterly screwed.

Got it fixed. Not sure what they did.. bit of a weird bike shop. Asked them how it was and the guy just says "Don't know. Didn't do it myself" without offering to ask the mechanic. Bit annoying to spend £25 on something I could have probably done myself but at least I've now got it for weekend.

I found it so frustrating driving back... roads I normally cycle on about 5 times quicker. I hate having to drive East!

Makes sense. I will replace the front derailleur cable myself. Somewhat tempted to order a white cable set for a little bit of bling :)
