Thanks for the advice re bikes to buy. Love the look of the Dolan l'Etape so have went for that (the Shimano 105 version). Applied to my works bike to work scheme this morning and they had processed it and sent a purchase order to Dolan within 2 hours - hope the bike build happens quickly too!

Wow nice.. My work scheme takes 2 months to get a voucher.

Nice one. Don't forget the obligatory pic from your first ride ;)

Von - turns out Bardiani CSF use BePro power meters. If it's good enough for the Giro d'Italia...

So my Ultegra chain has only done 1.6k miles, and I've treated it like an absolute prince.

Got my chain wear tool in the post today, gone to check it, and my chain is at 0.75mm with a recommendation to replace it.

Too much wattage, that's the only explanation!

I don't bother with a chain wear tool, just end up replacing it about once a year. And since I had a stuck link once recently and a few others don't seem to be running as smoothly under load, now seems like a good time to change it.

Maybe. There's a lot of disagreement though. I just replace it when I feel like it could benefit from being replaced. Roads round here seem to attract chain dirt the second the tyres touch the road though, maybe that has something to do with it.

Brutal headwind up here tonight, thought it would keep the bunch together but it didn't appear to!

Blew a bit at Hazelbank, got back on for where there is two climb option. Decided to head for the bit I usually get dropped at, couldn't hold a wheel at this section but Martin Lonie gave me a few shoves to get back on, same on one of the last drags before it heads downhill.

He says to get on his wheel which I was trying my best to but I was spinning like mad trying to sustain that sort of speed on a 52/12. We did get back on to the bunch and if anything pass a few guys onto the next section but I'd blown my load by then haha.

Held on a bit longer then took a more direct route home rather than be chasing the bunch when they were winding up for a sprint.

Edit: Glad I did as it seems they took the KOM for it tonight! https://www.strava.com/activities/571908707/segments/13874646025

Anyone know where the cheapest place to order a pair of Continental 4 season tyres is please?
Cheapest I've managed to find so far is £62 per pair, at my LBS (after a little loyalty discount:D)
Not a bad price, occasionally see them dip below £60 a pair but not very frequently and they always sell out far too quick... Basically anywhere you can get them for near to £60 with free delivery is about the only 'deal' you'll find. I previously 'ordered from Germany' (Rose) to get a good discount (£56 including shipping for a pair) but they're £2 more expensive now, I'm guessing due to the exchange rate not being as good.
Unless you can see the canvas through them, they get the Roady seal of approval for another 10,000km
What are these km measurements you're foolishly using, another 10,000 miles! :p
Planet X are the cycling equivalent of DFS these days!
Lol, the amount of 'stock liquidation' sales they've had (with sales no better than the sale prices previously) I've actually stopped looking at the site.

See, it's not *just* me eating chains! :p

Awesome ride mate and crazy speeds! :o

This weather. :(

Got absolutely drenched last night and couldn't get my kit all dry for today, even my shoes are still soaked (extra pair of socks with me!). So, it's a wing-it day with some random kit and hope it doesn't rain as heavy as it did yesterday. :p

Their emails go straight in the bin now. I do think they have some cracking deals occasionally but some of the stuff I've bought cheap from there is just cheap junk from China which I could have probably got even cheaper from the likes of Ali Express.

I think the biggest factor in how long your chain lasts is if you use a chain wear checker or not. TBH I might leave my one in the tool box from now on and just change the chain and cassette when I actually notice some wear. My old MTB and hybrid were running perfectly with over 1% wear. I would probably be of a different opinion if changing the whole lot cost more than the £30 it costs for a 9 speed chain and cassette (£15 on the 7 speed hybrid :p)

The argument is that by the time you see the wear it's already too late... But then equally older folk would regard 0.75% as premature so who knows.
