Felt pretty terrible today but dragged myself out for a short ride. Not ridden for two weeks due to the bike being out of action. I smashed a PR goal on a local Cat4 climb i had set and ended up getting 2nd place KOM for the year. I'm only 6 seconds off KOM so i will attack it again when i'm feeling more up to it!

The bike felt great today, front end certainly felt more responsive and the new bars soaked up the bumps lovely! Some of you might recognise this (rather famous) hill climb :D

p.s. the hay bales are a big give away...

Your Garmin mount looks a bit squint, that would drive me mental. :p

I thought the same!

Biblical rain in the middle of the Velothon Wales today. Lost my workmates at the tumble and ended up doing the rest without them.

Almost wiped out a kneeling photographer at the finish line... Another rider squeezed me to the right.. I hope he got a good photo!

Ouch! Crash or wheel strike?

Wheel strike - suspect the mech hanger started it all by snapping. The whole mech and chain got lunched by the back wheel. Amazingly no snapped spokes and I stayed upright. Had to ring for neutral service (aka Mrs Chri5) to come and collect me to save a slow 3 mile walk home.

Not sure what made the nastier sound was - when it happened or me when I looked up the cost to sort.

£7.99 for the inner plate
£39.99 for the outer plate
£20.99 for a pair of jockey wheels
£20 for a new mech hanger
Plus new gear cable and outer

Have spotted a couple of 2nd hand Dura Ace 7800 mechs on eBay for a like-for-like swap, though tempted to get a new Ultegra 6700 mech instead for circa £40.

Has anyone got any thoughts on look keo pedals? I have SPD pedals on my commuter and winter bikes, and I have SPD-SL on my summer bike. I'm looking at getting bepro power meter pedals for my better bike, which are look keo compatible. Is there anything I should be aware of? Do people find them better or worse in use than SPD-SL? What's cleat life like?

Cleat life isn't as good as the SPD-SL (apparently). I gave up on SPD-SL pretty quickly, as I found clipping into be a pain. Look Keo pedals have a much better lip for the cleat to hook into before you clip in. Had zero problems with my Look Keo Max, so easy to clip into. Never had a problem.

On the pedal front, I'm a little annoyed this morning. Went to take the ultimate out this morning as it was raining, thought I'd have some better stopping power. It has dura ace pedals on. I have the vector 2s on the aeroad.
Cleats look like they should be fine... nope. I'm there in the raining ****ing about like an idiot until I realise they clearly don't fit.

So, do I need to have different cleats for every damn bike? I have mavic / time cleats on my MTBs, and trainer, Vectors and Dura Aces... so 3 shoes, 3 sets of cleats?
Do any cleats fit both vectors and shimano's?

Vectors use Look KEO cleats. It might make more sense to standardise your other road bikes with KEOs. Probably cheaper than buying a ton of different shoes

You can get the kit to be able to fit SPD-SLs to your Vector2s now I think?

Or, get rid of the Vectors and get a Power2Max PM instead..then just get the same peddles/cleats for all your bikes ;)

Either way, I'll get some abuse from her indoors if I buy anything else... :p

I think I'll just swap out the cleats for now. Looked at the Look pedals, and I'd end up paying 120 for a set on nice ones, which considering the dura ace ones were 125, makes it harder to swallow. Although it's going to get annoying as the position of the cleat is the difference between feeling my toes and not.

To be fair, I have enough shoes to cover it with the new Mavics I have... but they're hidden as I just got killed for buying new MTB shoes, and so these can't come out for about 6 months :D hahaha

Get a set of Look Keo Max 2, and they are around £45 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/look-keo-2-max-pedals/

They are amazing pedals.

There was a guy at the Velothon yesterday that did 40km with a saddle then 100km without... Apparently it broke. No idea if he managed to stay out of the saddle or walked on the climbs.
