Someone called Strava Athlete wants to follow me on Strava. Seems legit.
Got a request from Strava Athlete too :/
I haven't. I feel left out :(
Was Chloe %something% with a fittie female 'BC athlete' picture. I had 2 of them, one 'Strava Athlete' which previously had the same name. Both are junk as no miles registered, following thousands and a dodgy description which referenced a website with '$£X' in the name and said 'looking for a training buddy x'. Bit annoying you can only 'Block' on Strava and not also 'Report'.
I'd say 11-28 is fine for 90% of UK climbs. The Lake District being one of the exceptions.
Really? In that case then I need some serious training. Or are you talking for pro riders not amateurs? I'm in Hereford (fairly flat considering where I grew up in Mid-Wales) and I would struggle on many of the local hills in a 28. I need at least a 30 and fairly regularly have to bail into my 32. Local examples below (bear in mind I've not included any of the few 'Top 100 Climbs' in easy reach): I'll admit I'm no mountain goat and anything much over 15% I probably can't do without a 30t. For me even considering to do something over 20% without a 32t there would be a total joke. I'd not talking short sharp 30s digs here. Graham Briggs even commented about Dorstone hill afterwards, wishing he'd had a 30 for it, after the RR (ride linked)!
There's a club page?! :o
Sorry we're not Canyon sponsored so not sure you'd be interested! ;)

Wow. Of all the places to find people looking for a "training buddy". That's actually hilarious that they are even using Strava now :D

Thanks!

I'm of the opinion most should be able to grind up anything in the UK on an 11-28 with a compact. I've moved to semi compact recently and 11-28, but previously ran compact with 11-25. Due to the length of climbs in the UK you'd only be suffering for 5-10 minutes at most! It's only when you're getting into longer climbs that you may want a bail out gear to make it easier.

Just need to push a bit harder and take it easier once you get to the top.

Cheers. Unfortunately the only day I've got to dedicate fully to cycling is tomorrow and I'm (moves from slapping distance) spending it on the MTB at Thetford Forest.
Lol :D

Well I guess as long as you're spending 5+ hours in the saddle it'll count as training...? :p
I'm assuming everyone is talking about rear sprocket sizes with a compact, not a standard?
Yeah... It's not like many bikes even come with a standard these days! :o

Probably :p I'll admit I'm a spinner and usually these climbs are only part of a longer ride so I tend to not empty myself on them. I'm guessing the determination of 'longer climb' is all down to how long I can output 400W+ for while standing without totally gutting myself (not being able to continue at 200W+ afterwards to finish it). I guess usually around a minute or two depending how fatigued I am.

34-25 will have to do me for Hardknott. If I have a pre-ride **** to go sub-58kg and throw my water bottle into the crowds of spectators I might be light enough.:D

I have an 11-25 on the trainer at the moment, but that's only because it was what I had on my spare wheels, which only went on due to spokey brokey. I should really swap it back to the 11-32 but haven't got round to it.

Edited for you. That's actually got quite a cool ring to it! :D

Good to see you here :)

Finally sold the pair of Northwave boots I've had floating around and my S/H wheelset bargain should be with me in a couple of days... Have to figure out if I can change the freehub on the rear (Roval SL45) to make it 11 speed compatible (have read other Roval 10 speeds being converted with just an end cap & freehub). If I can't, my plan is to replace the hub totally with a DT Swiss 350. I'll then have the fun of trying to match spoke lengths, if it's vastly different I'll also be buying new spokes...! :o

I've climbed 4 mile long cat 2s that take 20 minutes and bested short cat 4s that hit 25% on 34*28, so yes, it can be done. Our local cat 2 has both, and one route up there is truly horrific. It takes time and effort, but that's cycling for you. If it's not hard work, then what are you doing? I'd only drop to a 32 if I really thought my knees were going to give up.

Anyone else getting spam followers on Strava?

Yep, had maybe 3 or 4 in the last couple of months.

Hard to know what the end game is, given there's no ads on Strava. Could be looking to nick bikes, so best to lock down your privacy and ignore them all.
