Road Cycling

I think those Pro-Viz jackets work really well. I see them quite often and they light up very nicely when my cycle lights hit them.

I'd never buy one though as they are as aero as a parachute and as breathable as a bin bag.:D

The fit is horrible but they seem to do an XS now which I'm tempted to try. The gilet might be a good way to add visibility without being totally boil in the bag.

There is always the Assos option for a tight-fitting reflective gilet.:D

Damn timing. I got my new vortex brake through and so thought yep, let's go fit it, get in a ride. ****ed about getting it back on and the bike all back on it and tightened, it wouldn't then find it with the utility, so restarted it. Found it, updated the firmware. Great.
Then tried to connect to Zwift, couldn't find a trainer. Dammit.
Restarted it again, and my macbook... finally found it again.

Got on it, riding away, wicked. Yet, pushing some power it's showing me **** power on zwift it was showing barely 100. I need to calibrate it up some, but I couldn't remember what I should be picking for the power source.

Instead I just put the aeroad on there, which I've found has a bulge in the tyre too, as the vectors are on there and then gave that a whirl with vectors selected for power and cadence source. Christ it was better! Power readings were great.

Then realised I had a 2:30 meeting and had to get off... fml

I'll have to go back on for an hour tonight. Properly annoyed at all the faffing.

As SportsPursuits seem to be the only place selling Rivelo and they are always discounted, the RRP is something of a laugh IMO.
Haha I totally agree, but water resistant winter bib tights for £60 is a deal however you look at it!

Basic thermal tights are £50, with non-winter showerproof options being £70/80.

I'm guessing with the great 'sale' price (& vastly inflated RRP) that these Rivelo are comparable with DHB. So not expecting amazing quality or fit, just acceptable! ;)

That's not a reflective gilet, that's a reflective bra! #Assosman has no shame!

At least the Vortex is now all sorted (after an easy calibrate). Just don't do what I did on the weekend... Warm up ride on Zwift. Add air to tyre & struggle to get Vortex to be picked up by Tacx app as you still have Zwift connected. Tear hair out for 20 mins before restarting everything. Calibrate ok. Struggle with Zwift picking up trainer. Tear hair out again until the pin drops that the Tacx app connects on BT, yet Zwift is connecting over ANT+ and seems like the trainer doesn't like both connections trying to control it...;)

You could do a night-time tired ride to figure out what it feels like pacing yourself when really fatigued? Done any 'late night' stuff before?

It occurred to me I haven't been on any of my bikes for like 2 weeks :/

Did my first commute in 13 days today, it nearly killed me this morning, after the break during the pants weather and still having a bit of man flu lurking in the background! The ride home was a bit easier, legs didn't feel quite so heavy, but I was quite surprised to have 6 minor Strava "achievements" pop up over the two journeys.

First ride in weeks yesterday! (work commitments boo). Hopefully the weather holds out all week!

Same. Got out for a few miles. I was slow, but I enjoyed it. There has been too much going on recently for me to maintain some form of schedule to my cycling. Hopefully things will calm down over the next few months.

I have to do a speeding awareness course tomorrow ( :( ) - hoping though I can get out on the bike after lunch (I've booked the day off) as my reward!

You're missing the point. For half the week our day temperatures reach DOUBLE FIGURES! For monday and tuesday, even the wind has dropped & not blowing from the north! :o

Lolwut?! :p

Monday: 13 daytime, 12 night. Tuesday: 13 daytime, 8 night. Wednesday: 11 daytime, 5 night...

I actually didn't wear a thermal jersey (wore my R&D Wind jersey) this morning and even came close to overheating with headwinds at lunchtime in it... ;)

What are road bikes (both Alu and carbon) like under those waterproof covers for extended periods of time?

My carbon bike wont be used until spring now. I have a balcony where I could put it so it isnt clogging up my flat. It would be exposed to all weather conditions.

Anything made of steel will likely rust a bit. Stick some grease or Vaseline on the stem bolts, bolts on the brakes, seatpost clamp bolt, that sort of thing.

Whelp, pretty wet out there this morning. My DHB winter jacket kept me dry and warm though (too warm actually, but I'm not commuting in my Gabba).

If you live in the UK. Then no point in this drab of weather
Really? 14 degrees here yesterday and 12 degrees already this morning at 8am. Amazing weather considering the last couple of weeks! ;)

The Alu and Carbon themselves will be fine, it's all the other things which will suffer from being exposed to all winter UK weather conditions - example bearings will get water in & rust from being stood. Any steel components (as Von mentioned) will have a chance of picking up rust if it picks up moisture.

I guess it depends on what your bikes are really worth to you and the space you have available. You could look at getting some kind of water/rain proof shelter/shed to protect them from the worst of it (look at some of the garden security units). I would also look at some way of keeping moisture levels as low as possible to avoid condensation introducing moisture even under a rainproof shelter.

Which jacket is that mate? Dry here this morning so I wore a LS winter jersey & gilet, not a thermal/winter jacket/jersey like I've used for the past few weeks!

Nice and clear this morning (shame it wasn't last night for the super moon) and feeling very warm (12 degrees already according to my weather app!).

Had a good turbo session last night - 'Jon's Mix' followed by some harder intervals of my own.

A 50 minute session with 3*1 minute 300W blocks (which felt easy) followed by 575W sprints with decreasing recovery (I didn't struggle to hit & feel I can sprint harder). After those were 2 blocks of 10 minutes at 90% FTP (195) which I found easy so did them higher at just below FTP (210).

I'm now absolutely convinced my FTP is set too low (Zwift has autoset it at 217?! Probably from the old trainer with the tyre too tight). Rather than cool down after that I did 3 minutes high cadence at 280W, 1 minute at 400W and finished with some messing around dropping and leading out small groups.
