Road Cycling

It's the DHB Aeron Full Protection Softshell.

I really like it actually though I kind of wish I'd gotten it in a more tasteful colour. The bright red and navy looks a bit... bright :p

Really? 14 degrees here yesterday and 12 degrees already this morning at 8am. Amazing weather considering the last couple of weeks! ;)
The Alu and Carbon themselves will be fine, it's all the other things which will suffer from being exposed to all winter UK weather conditions - example bearings will get water in & rust from being stood. Any steel components (as Von mentioned) will have a chance of picking up rust if it picks up moisture.

I guess it depends on what your bikes are really worth to you and the space you have available. You could look at getting some kind of water/rain proof shelter/shed to protect them from the worst of it (look at some of the garden security units). I would also look at some way of keeping moisture levels as low as possible to avoid condensation introducing moisture even under a rainproof shelter.
Which jacket is that mate? Dry here this morning so I wore a LS winter jersey & gilet, not a thermal/winter jacket/jersey like I've used for the past few weeks!

Nice and clear this morning (shame it wasn't last night for the super moon) and feeling very warm (12 degrees already according to my weather app!).

Had a good turbo session last night - 'Jon's Mix' followed by some harder intervals of my own.

A 50 minute session with 3*1 minute 300W blocks (which felt easy) followed by 575W sprints with decreasing recovery (I didn't struggle to hit & feel I can sprint harder). After those were 2 blocks of 10 minutes at 90% FTP (195) which I found easy so did them higher at just below FTP (210).

I'm now absolutely convinced my FTP is set too low (Zwift has autoset it at 217, but that was on the old trainer with the tyre too tight). Rather than cool down after that I did 3 minutes high cadence at 280W, 1 minute at 400W and finished with some messing around dropping and leading out small groups.

Do what I did, set it to 290 and then do it again. Try walking after that. :p

Emailed Tacx again. I'm getting mega wound up by their twitter. I tweeted them and all they say is "email us" well, what's the point of your presence on here? Nothing. Then it takes an age to get a response and it's annoying. Not enjoyed their CS much.

Haha, thats the one with a red body isn't it? I liked the look of the orange arms with the darker body and probably would've got one if the red was on the arms/shoulders instead... I've learnt my lesson before about buying something that I like the orange colour of, and then it not matching absolutely anything else I own so I don't wear it...!

Does it have much wind protection? If it's similar thickness to my ASV windslam roubaix I'd have cooked in it yesterday/today! :o

Reply asking their twitter user to go an reply to some emails as you're not getting one!

Bit disappointed to hear they're poor at replying now I'm a Tacx customer! :(

Lol, erm... I think I'll just do another FTP test, but thanks for your recommendation! ;)

Another KISS Europe race tonight, you in?!

EDIT: The end is nigh. Wiggle now have a Chr*stmas tab. :o

EDIT2: Clif bars under £1 each - certain flavours.

Which one of you was it that mentioned punctures the other day?

I half typed out a comment about having just one puncture in 8000 miles before deleting it as to not jinx it... Got a puncture today while looking at all the little stones and bits on the cycle path and thinking about punctures...:mad:

Almost punctured my finger trying to remove the nail like piece of flint!

Rivelo wearers... how is the sizing compared to say dhb / Castelli?

Hahaha it's typical isn't it? I said I'd been fine for months and putting the aeroad on the trainer the other day I see a big side wall bulge in the rear. Luckily I did, that'd be a pain on the road side as I'd not likely have a trye with me!

Update on the TACX: They're going to send me another brake. Number 3 lol but they've got no TdF models (it's just the colour anyway) but I was like can you send me the whole thing, not just the brake. Otherwise I'll have a blue and white/ grey brake and a yellow stand and if I want to sell it after it'll be a complete mission!

Here's hoping.

I'll have a look at that race, I was going to ride tonight so might as well if the time fits. You going to Cat C it?

I'm going to get some of those Clifs. I'll no doubt eat all mine this weekend :p

EDIT: Ive just registed for Cat C. Sorted.

I might join you guys - looks tough as working out my ftp/weight = 2.57 so I guess that's Cat C as well......

I found I was holding back on the D like mad, but on the C I can pretty much just "ride" so drop below going down hills from time to time, but power up to 5w/kg going up the small hills on the flat course. Makes it easier to just blast around.

:eek::eek:

might need to add a few pounds at dinner time to drop me into cat D i think!!! I'm not sure I have you on zwift as a friend - will trust you my name and add me. I presume it's mad from the off - people going solo from the off??

lol the last race I did I went 800w off the start and smashed it. I was leading for about 1km, until it hurt a bit, I settled back down and "fast" group hammered passed me.

I was quicker than the back group, but not as quick as the front group so ended up between the 2 groups on my own with no draft, which was rookie.

Nice to commute in shorts and a gillet today, it was positively tropical for mid November! Maybe not overheating as badly, due to lack of trousers and storm jacket, accounted for my new best homeward hill climb since I started this Strava malarkey ~7 weeks ago.

This is what LTHR is useful for but is of course more variable to some extent, as HR is a response to effort but levels for sustainable lactate build up shouldn't waiver a great deal.
If my last 30min FTP test is anything to go by, then my LTHR is around 161.5 which (to me) seems quite low (170*0.95). I know I can sustain over 165bpm for over an hour, may have a go at a full 60 minute FTP test at some point to really give me some solid FTP & LTHR data!

Would be useful if there were more LTHR based sessions as in reality they (being based off HR and not Power) would be more suited to training when fatigued and/or out of form. FTP is great if you can continue the form and be slightly rested for every ride, which might be difficult for most of us over winter (and why regular FTP tests become more important when looking at progress).

FTP is too publicised and overly hyped, the majority of people want their FTP for training related sessions/plans. After that it is purely a willy waving exercise, unless of course you repeat them semi-regularly as a measure of progress (and most plans will incorporate them).

My legs are pretty toasted after last nights, need to jump on one soon though. In CAT D anyway! Simple as register on the website, put your name down & then just join from the Zwift screen?

Goodluck! Might be worth mentioning you're waiting for a Neo to turn up and that you've got the charity 24h in a couple of days time! Try and get a quicker response!

*hides*
Was actually 'someone' else and I commented ;)

Utterly melted after lunchtime commute, not overly warm but a little humid. Sometimes get this - do a hard turbo session and wake up not feeling that rested and proper 'greasy' in the morning. Then proceed to utterly melt riding that day, even if taking it fairly easy!?

LTHR will be individual and also subjective, particularly with regards to cadence. What is your MHR? I find my LTHR to be around 15 beats below this.

Just use over/under drills to train VO2 Max & LTHR. Agreed you're not going to be on top form day in day out but that said FTP still establishes a baseline to determine effort, intensity and moderate volume.

Rule #5 :p
