Road Cycling

Using it as base work to do more climbing in 2017? Enjoyed reading your blog and your Colorado adventures! Are body weight exercises best for that kinda core work, or are weights just an easy shortcut to the strength needed? Not looking, my body is too bean shaped (with short limbs!) just interested. Have a friend who's got into her climbing recently and she's loving it!

Heh thanks. Didn't think anyone would actually read it!

I got a guest pass from my mate and reminded myself why I stopped going to gyms. Also, I can't really afford a membership and I don't think the type of strength gained from lifting weights will benefit my cycling, running or rock climbing. Especially if I pull my lower back muscles!:(

Bought myself a used Triban 5 this morning; very good condition for £175, happy :)

Now I need to get a turbo trainer but I'm not sure what I'm looking for to be honest. so, I'm turning again to the knowledge of OCUk :P I don't want to spend a huge amount, and from what I've seen so far it looks unlikely, I'd like to somehow record distance i've covered while turbo training.

If that functionality takes the price sky high, then a bog standard cheap and cheerful turbo-trainer will suffice :)

Advice please :p

To record that you could simply attach a speed sensor to the wheel, bluetooth one if you don't have an ANT+ cycle computer, and then sync it with Strava or other apps.

Long old day yesterday being called at 4am for work and cycling in at 6.30, and not getting home until 11. Fuelled by Pizza and Tea! Weather is minging so called off my first turbo session of the winter and went for a run, which I scarily am enjoying. CX is going to be hell tomorrow, not stopped raining down here.

I was really tempted to issue an infraction for the bit in bold

Fly 12 fitted, hope it proves a worthwhile investment.

Good heavens, my body is sore today. The bruise on my hip is huge, but my right shoulder and back are sore as well.

I cleaned my commuter this afternoon, with some help from my 7 year old. I then changed the freewheel, which was a bit of a job as it was hard work getting the old one off. I managed it in the end by bolting the tool to the axle and then employing a big spanner. I also changed the chain as it was starting to stretch a bit and I figured it made sense to do it at the same time as the freewheel, and I changed the front brake blocks from some swissstop ones that someone on here sent me a while ago. It was hard work getting them in the holders for some reason, but they went in eventually.

Re: the fly12 I hope it proves to be a huge waste of money! You don't want to need it! It's insurance.

I think I'll be buying a fly6 at least next year, maybe a virb for the front.

Going to be getting a turbo trainer for the road bike i bought today. And if i'm getting a trainer tyre then i may aswell get another wheel, and therefore another cassette :( Found a set on ebay including all 3 together for £80. How does that sound gentlemen?

Should be able to pick up a wheel for £20, cassette for £30 and an old tyre will do the business. Depends how desperate you are to get it set up.

Well trainer tyres are £15-20 or so, inner tubes a couple of quid, so I'll have a look around. Let's see if we can find some cheap cassette's then.. Any advice anyone on where to look?

I assume I'll be looking for a 7/8 speed cassette? Current cass on bike is a 7 speed 12-25 Sora

7 Speed Sora? Current Sora is 9 speed  Either a 7 or 8 speed cassette can be had new for less than a tenner anyway.

Admittedly I don't do much turbo work but I don't really see that much tyre wear running 100 PSI with the turbo setup as per the instructions. That is with a Michelin Lithion 2 that I replaced because I was sick of getting punctures with it on the road.

Popped out for a gentle ride with a friend from work. Felt good to do a "real" ride again even if it was pretty low intensity. Rode past the spot where I broke my collarbone too...quite funny just how slow and careful I was around that area :p
