Road Cycling

Definitely don't want to get struck by gold balls.
If only... Could help to fill my PWM piggy bank...! ;)

Coming from this bike http://www.decathlon.co.uk/ultra-700-af-road-bike-105-id_8324331.html which was smashed when i got hit by a car.
Ahh, you'll certainly notice the difference going from 105 to Ultegra but without a huge weight difference (and the wheels on the newer being heavier) you might find it has more of a 'sluggish' feel. Once up to speed on longer rides you may find it feels 'faster', but equally it might not be as quick when stop/start commuting/traffic riding. YMMV.
Bum. It wasn't initially on Strava, so it's not showing on the results listings at all. I'll have to drop them a note.
Update please!

Guy I know raced again and did the B - https://www.strava.com/activities/776593597

'I was in a group of about 30 for the whole race and got spat out the back with 3.5k to go as I missed the kick. I pulled about 550w for pretty much the whole of the 3.5 but still ended about 12 seconds distant.'

Ouch!

I got bumped to C lol put too much power down, but I should have done C anyway. The guy I was riding with at the front of D (we've ridden a couple of times on Zwift before) was blowing up, race cooked him, yet I was at ~130bpm second lap trying not to overdo my power to keep within the limits.

Issue I find is that on the C there is a massive difference in abilities. I can push 3w/kg all the way through the 3 laps, but then you just get smashed by some of the other Cs haha

I'm going to do the EVR Hilly 4 lap race in C tonight. I'll get smashed no doubt, but will see how I fare on it. It's about 40km, 100m climbing per lap. As long as I can keep a steady w/kg up the climbs, and find a group it's OK. I just struggle to get a group that's the right pace.

Another Turbo session tonight. Started off too quickly and tired about halfway. Wasn't impressed at all. https://www.strava.com/activities/776507186

On another note, padded undershorts. I bought a couple of pairs of the DHB padded undershorts from Wiggle (about 13quid i think) when i first got my bike and I'm looking to replace at least one pair and supplement them with another couple of pairs but i noticed they're not stocked anymore. Can anyone recommend others?

Easily done. Inadequate recovery between intervals is commonly the cause, usually as the result of boredom. As is disregarding breathing properly, can make a massive difference. Pretty easy to bite off more than you can chew looking at a turbo workout on the face of it.

Get bib-shorts and go mid-range if you can. One of the things that aren't worth skimping on.

REgistered for this tomorrow morning on zwift!

Looks fun!!!

Haha, some of them might be CAT B's doing 'easy' midweek rides?! I can hold 3w/kg fairly easily so maybe I'm not going to be left standing... Can quite happily sprint at 7-8w/kg and hold 5w/kg for a minute or more for attacking.

When in a Race do you see 'normal' riders there doing their workouts and free riding? Can you draft them?! Could have a leadout train of riders who are not in the race! ;)

Good luck for later!

Try some padded shorts, even if it's just for turbo work! If you melt (like most of us!) then having 1 less layer on will help loads! :)

Altura do a range of 'liner' shorts, DHB don't seem to anymore only seem to do 1 - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mens/cycle/shorts/?o=2 (shorts showing lowest price first).
15kg of Pizza
'Recovery' food! :D ;)
Seems reasonable. Lunch covered anyway.
+1

Although I'm quite disappointed the range doesn't feature some 'beer/6pack panniers' which fit on the sides. Then again American 'beer' cans = luls.

Had a result at lunch, I'd lost my co2 cartridge from my frame mount at some point earlier in the week (& only realised last night). Didn't spot it earlier but spotted it on the way back to work at lunch! Retrieved & hasn't been crushed by a car = result! :D

Doesn't sound like a bad idea though I don't think this road cycle thread is exactly getting spammed with Zwift/turbo talk any more than you'd expect given the recent change of seasons.

Probably puts off the newcomer asking for advice and does mean a lot of stuff gets missed. Race thread and the like is separate. Got our own subforum may as well use it.

We do indeed and I'd encourage anyone that wants to start such a thread to do so but I also don't see the current amount of turbo talk as so problematic that we need a hard rule about such talk being in that thread. This is a general road cycling discussion thread after all and the nature of that is that you're going to get crossover into subjects that aren't purely "cycling on a road".

I post in the running thread!
I bet you even post in the swimming thread!? ;)
They've always had that 'crazy Rapha priced Rapha things' range of products. Although really bizarre they say they're Lezyne tyre levers, they don't usually mention other brands as they tend to get things made exclusively to Rapha?!
Sounds like an idea, zwift talk is quite dull.
It might be, but it's just usually general talk of w/kg and power rather than specifics to Zwift? See those metrics discussed with road riding, racing, training and not just indoor training.

The Pro Cycling and Racing/TT work well as their own threads, but without maybe someone doing a big turbo writeup/FAQ to push all the trainer related talk to that one thread I don't think it'd really work? Have to admit - personally this thread is what I open, not the Cycling sub-thread. I do go there when I have time, but usually just drop in here. I could be in the minority (which is why you see a lot of me in here) :p

I reckon you could be right, a dedicated thread, especially with the constant spec me a trainer/ indoor setup stuff, could all be in a "Indoor Training/ TR/ Zwift thread"

On that note, I have a race in 30 mins, going to get smashed to bits.
