Turns out £2.99 fleece style gloves from Aldi do a superb job of keeping my hands toasty on the turbo in the garage. And the entire back is great for absorbing sweat and snot rockets :p

Shifting & breaking ability wasn't as impaired as I expected for such a thick glove so I'm contemplating something similarly OTT for outside. Any recommendations?

(I've tried liners inside my windproof gloves but alas just not thermal enough).

Thursdays club ride was straight up the struggle to kirkstone pass from ambleside without a warm up! loved it especially that 25% kick at the end. Pitch black and about 3.5 degrees so warm.

Slippy surface to say the least.

Legs felt fresh after 34 mile with a tad over 3,000 feet climbing.

Fred Whitton beckons.

Had any reasons to deal with Powertap support? Ben, I know you had a problem with the battery covers but I'm unsure if you dealt with them or the e/re-tailor you got them from.

I may be able to snag a deal on some S/H for <£500 but they'll have no warranty/support, except through Powertap directly.

The e-tailer asked me to RMA them but I was headed to Majorca 4 weeks later and they were still giving reliable readings after clearing up the corrosion inside the cap. (Advised by a UK service centre should I have any problems further down the line etc). Pretty certain somehow moisture from the outside of my waterbottle entered the cap whilst changing batteries in a hurry pre club ride. As I've ridden in the rain and washed the bike throughly numerous times and not had it reoccur.

Still haven't sent them back :o

Occasionally performing a zero-offset can take a few tries but I'm pretty certain this is down to interference on the 2.4ghz band from wi-fi and other devices.

There are two UK based service centres IIRC should they need anything doing. What's the reason for selling them and why so cheap?... that would be my only concern.

Until 90 minutes ago the most cycling thing I'd done all weekend was change my tyres and drink a pint of Amstel!

Lots of people out enjoying themselves in Cheshire today while I got taken round John Lewis and the Xmas markets...

Got out and did an hour, wasn't 100% sure where I was going on the way back trying to get home before dark, but the country lanes had hardly any traffic. Only they aren't wide enough when you do meet someone. Double edged sword really.

Bike felt much better on GP4000s, the old rear tyre had really flatted off, so probably causing a ton of drag!

Maybe when I lose a bit more fitness ill have to start riding race wheels all the time to compensate :o

Got out for around 70 km once all the frost had gone, just me and chap from work. Ride was really good, ended up around Eccleston, never been around there before and it was ok.

Nearly got knocked off my bike in Newton-le-Willows though, the main street was all closed off due to a Christmas market so diverted up a busy side-street. A parked car pulled out from the side of the road and nearly wiped my out. Cue "woah woah woah! Check your mirrors!!!!". The girl driving looked thoroughly embarrassed about the whole incident and I got asked if I was ok by somebody on the street. Nobody got hurt though so we just carried on. Pretty scary though.

Yeah it's a shame, and apparently it isn't particularly light anyway!

It seems all you can do is carry around 2kg of D-lock to make your bike less attractive to steal.

As a comparison, a top of the range Abus or Kryptonite requires at least a minute and two cuts with an angle grinder. Far less appealing to the thief.

I saw in the comments people talking about that 560g titanium lock but there doesn't seem to be any decent info on it around. Based on what I've seen I'm tempted to dismiss it too.

It's a shame really. As you say, for decent protection you're looking at a 2kg mini D lock.

The longer time spent making noise the better I guess.

Heavy duty chain suitable for 4wd recovery and similar tends to be a lot stronger than the crap you can get from B&Q which bolt cutters will go straight through.

Get a lock that is good enough to count for insurance purposes. If someone wants to get through a lock then they will do, and given that basically anything will succumb to long enough croppers or a powerful enough angle grinder in a matter of minutes even if you are making a racket you'll be long gone before the cops show up.

Exactly this. Cheapest/lightest lock available (depending on what is most important to you) with the necessary rating because if they wan't it, they'll have it.

Really need to hit the turbo tonight. I've been wiped out for a full week with a potentially lethal (in my mind anyway) case of man flu. Lost 3.5 LBS which is a good thing I guess but seeing as I've done no exercise, didn't lose my appetite and stopped watching what I was eating I conclude that I am simply wasting away :p

Total of 70 miles for last week, 2 turbo sessions outside of commuting. Did Week1 Day1 of the '5 week FTP Beginner' on Zwift saturday morning, really boring 'foundation' ride so the mileage sucked, I should've done another session afterwards or skipped it completely and ridden with one of the clubs as the weather wasn't as bad as forecast! Grr! Oh well, tonights is another 'base' style ride (W1D2) which I may swap to an FTP test as it doesn't look like you do one until W2 if not!? Weird plan, first week is hardly anything near tempo/FTP...

Commute this morning was ok, only -1 so not as cold as forecast, ambient around 0 (Garmin reported 0.5!). Roads were clear but anything tarmac off the main drag was covered in frost and a potential ice rink!

Good riding, well done! The Fred Whitton always looks like a good one, did you get a place? Think it always sells out really fast, so interested in how you find it! Goodluck in advance! :)

Good to hear they've been fine since & that service is easily available. The ones I was looking at were from someone changing to crank based but he's now sold them (£780!), but I've spotted a couple of returned sets sold by Wiggle on Ebay going for £500-600. Going to keep my eyes open and any of them which look like they're going to go towards the bottom of that range I'll try and snap up! If I can't get them for that over winter then I'll be holding out for a new set in the late-spring/early-summer. Still need to find some way I can justify it to the other half! Going to require some figuring out! ;)

The costs of some of these locks is crazy, you're better buying 2 (or even 3!) cheaper silver/gold kryptonite's, manning up over the extra weight when you've got to leave your bike and just making your bike really unattractive to opportunistic thieves. And getting a cheap commuter/pub bike.

This.
you guys heard about the Skunk Lock ?
Most of the hobo's you see in YT videos really don't look like some extra stink would worry them! ;)

Well, this is arguably one of the best locks you can buy and I don't think it's too expensive at this price...
