Road Cycling

Take some grease out of the freehub pawls if you want to make them louder... (maybe not the best idea though!)

My Zondas got louder as time went by. First week or so pretty quiet then after that bumblebee!

There's either not enough grease and the pawls are getting stuck 'closed', or the grease has thickened up and is stopping them moving. Using a thinner grease will increase noise but the thinner grease can leak out and ca get easier displaced by any water...

My Khamsin went quiet, regreased and got much louder! Shimano RS81's were not quiet, or loud, but have stayed the same. AXIS 4's on my Diverge are quite loud and have stayed that way. I like a good resounding 'CLICK'! :D

I love the sound of really loud Hope hubs on a group ride, but I think if I rode with them every day it'd annoy me!

Will most likely leave it as it is. Will do something about it if I lose power but just disappointing. I don't listen to music or anything while riding just so I can hear my hub.

Had a nice afternoon ride. Ended up being a bit further than I expected but got back before dark so its all good!

Took a massive 1 second off my PB up Parbold Hill (Von will know it!). Bit of a headwind at the top and I wasn't aiming for my best, just to get up the damn thing. In 39x28 pushing 400w to maintain a suitable cadence for some of it. Had done 50km by then and was starting to feel like I should have taken something to eat.

Had a good workout, smashed myself for a few hours, few numpty car drivers around but some decent ones too. I need to find a route which avoids mini roundabouts at all costs!

I was building up some confidence in the damp & cold, not leaning the bike over at all hardly, but a little better around some of the bends.

Then coming into Burscough I had to slow down from maybe 30kmh, rear brake grabbed a bit and sideways we went, dab of oppo and no new bibs required. Guess a bit of luck and time spent riding the bike meant instincts kicked in. The rear felt a little funny for the next 4-5km, maybe a little flat spot on the tyre as it worked itself out and back to normal.

Gnarr!!!

Should have got an ice cream at the top, think he was pretty optimistic :D

Was over round there on the weekend (went up Appley Bridge and the Beacon). Good sharp hills round there, I quite like them all, not in that crazy gearing though! ;)

If you fancy a quieter version of Parbold, then go over to Stoney Lane whichg runs adjacent, rising out of Parbold village itself. Then of course there is Roby Mill, Crow Lane, Beacon, Shaley Brow, to name but a few.

Are you on Strava Berger? If so, give me and VonHelmet a follow. Probs give you some good ideas for different routes that we might do.

The new iphone 7 advert is this serious ?, or really meant to inspire cyclists to buy apple products; does anyone wear ( head ) rain gear like this ? advert was after the Guy Martin (man in china) cycling challenge.

Did Guy have a CREE XM-L T6 2000 on his fixed - that was the real question I had ?

afterthought - guy dressed in eye catching black so will probbaly be killed by a motorist - have look for iphones by side of road

What's iPhone got to do with road cycling?

He has it mounted out front on his bike with a cycling app before he heads out in the pouring rain for a bike ride. They're trying to make it being "waterproof" a selling point to sporty types who do things like go outside... and use their phone outside... where it rains etc.

You know that waterproof thing that other cheaper, better spec'd phones have been doing for many years now

:rolleyes::D

Love my Galaxy S5 for this alone, it's had a hard 3 years and I regularly use it in the rain/in the shower/in a very humid bathroom. Broke the charging port cover off about 18 months ago, still no issues! S6 never had the same IP67 rating and the S7 is still too much money so I've not updated. £13 per month rolling contract. Winning! :D

Cnet video water diary/test the iphone fails as it's speakers are wrecked after being submerged for any medium-long period of time (under 30 mins).

'head rain gear'? You mean a hood? ;)

My mrs won't cycle without one, as not many cycling jackets have hoods she generally has to settle for running orientated ones which do. She won't wear a hat as it messes up her hair, not quite sure how a hood doesn't!

I wear thicker caps which tend to soak up the rain but not let it though. The Sportful NoRain cap I've got also works well, but isn't very breathable.
Shaley Brow
7 Shaley's!

Ouch, how's the confidence now!? Weather gets warmer now for ~10 days so surfaces should be better!

Chaps, does anyone know a great online place for buying 'different' cycling clothes. So not your Castelli, Rapha etc....but lesser known but good quality brands.

Sort of like this site: https://www.weareomnium.cc/collections/mens/Jerseys

I'm trying to think of gift ideas for xmas :)

I do not condone this god awful nonsense.... But I read an article in disgust the other month which seemed ot think all this hipster start-up funky retro cycling gear was a good thing. So I will help you, reluctantly :p
