Well, this is arguably one of the best locks you can buy and I don't think it's too expensive at this price...

Agreed, great lock & price. I've got the evolution mini and it's complete overkill for me at work! Hefty lock considering it's small size, if I was commuting & locking up inner city I'd consider 2 of them in my pack, still probably 3kg additional weight!

Thankfully don't need to lock my bike anywhere other than work. I do have a portable Knog 'milkman' cable lock for the (very occasional) club cafe stop (where I'm always in sight of it).

I have an Abus equivalent of one of those and while it can be cut in seconds with a pair of wire clippers my justification is that I use it where most people simply leave their bikes unlocked (sportive stops, cafe where I go mountain biking etc.) so it still makes my bike the most difficult one to steal for an opportunist.

The costs of some of these locks is crazy, you're better buying 2 (or even 3!) cheaper silver/gold kryptonite's, manning up over the extra weight when you've got to leave your bike and just making your bike really unattractive to opportunistic thieves. And getting a cheap commuter/pub bike.

I suppose if you already carry 100kg of tools in your saddle bag then adding on an extra 10kg of locks isn't really that big a deal...

My insurance just says "...suitably locked when left unattended outside".

Therefore it's an el-cheapo lightweight lock - if the bikes goes the bike goes - I couldn't care less quite frankly, instantly replaceable bike therefore I use the bare minimum needed to get my insurance to buy me a new bike.

How do you prove to the insurance you did have a lock with that secure rating if the thief takes the lock too?

Same thing with those Kryptonite guarantees where you have to provide them the broken lock. Of course it's in the thief's best interests to leave the lock so you get another bike for them to potentially steal but they aren't always the smartest of people!

Purchase receipt for said lock, or photograph it, or both.

My insurers don't even require a certain rating lock - it just says use "a lock" (which I've kept the receipt for and photo'd on the bike to prove existence of both the lock and the bike).

Exactly my thoughts - any club cafe stop mine is never the most expensive bike there and quite often is the only one sporting a lock!

To be honest I have been known to also remove a QR/TA if the bikes are left in a 'high-traffic' pedestrian kinda area, also why a simple cable lock is all that's required - someone can't just jump on it and pedal away! All about reducing risk...

Agreed. If a thief can ride away with 30g of multitools, no rear wheel and a lamp post attached then they're welcome to it! :D:p

My locking needs are for commuting mainly. I'm going to be leaving my 2kg "Abus Granit X-plus" in my work bike cage but I wanted a lighter yet secure one for when I need to leave it outside the pub or the climbing wall. I have the Kryptonite Evolution Mini but which about 1kg but it's only Silver rated.

I want to argue that Zwift indoor turbo chat had more of a place in the road cycling thread than pansy padlocks/commuting/solar panel power LED lights & moaning about Barry from the finance dept and his flat bar chunky tyre Boardman hybrid race commuter.

Let's argue.

New bike came with loud hubs which I love. After less than 50 miles it's gone quiet and sometimes silent if just pushed along. Quite concerned and also annoyed as I love loud hubs; sign of bad seals and grime getting in?
