Road Cycling

What's wrong with buying Rapha gear?

Nothing, xdcx thinks he is a tough kilt wearing Scot.

Running a marathon for the first time next year so that will eat up the majority of my training time for the first quarter.

Aside from that there's a 200km CX that uv is making me sign up for and we'll probably do a 24 hour/250 mile ish ride to Norfolk. It'll be the longest unsupported ride I've done (209 being the previous unsupported, 320 supported).

That the Kielder forest one FT? I was very tempted to do it tbh! Looks really good!

Yup, Dirty Reiver. I probably need to actually do any CX beforehand I'm thinking... :p

HAHA, don't worry about that. Shame it is so far away as it would definitely be one to do. Some of the contraptions that came up on road.cc were interesting, lot of improvised guards on cross bikes.

Been quiet in here about Christmas Presents.
Haha, got some Sportful Sotto gloves, chain & commuting dhb glasses (all my choices from my parents!). Nothing else cycling related and the rest mostly junk from family (a singing & dancing stuffed toy dog from my sister wtf). Other half did get me a kindle paperwhite amongst other bit which I'm toying around with putting some free books on ready for a week in Jamaica on the 9th. Got G's book & Froomes as actual books left over from last year to read too...
I'm fairly sure someone was after a deal on a Wahoo Elmemnt.

I bought one this morning for £190 from the Wahoo website.
What deal/discounts code? They're £249.99 and I can get £220 from Wiggle... :o

Seems a good deal for the setup/spec.

Cycling my other halfs work commute (she's working) the last couple of days in the ice and freezing fog has been... Interesting.
Yesterday morning the windchill was worst, -6 and got numb thumbs in my Sotto's... They soon warmed up when out of the wind so they're a good glove down to around -5. My previous winter gloves (Galibier Barrier II) were around the same but at close to -10 my whole hand was freezing not just the thumbs. Freezing fog combined with aero vent closed on my helmet made my glasses ice up constantly, stripping off the beanie I was wearing under a cap solved it on the way home (cooler head = less steam?!). Ride in the afternoon I suffered with condensation but it wasn't quite freezing on my glasses.

Ride this morning with -5.5 windchill but thankfully it wasn't as strong as yesterday. Untreated roads were like an ice rink & I had to walk off the drive not ride off... Suffered again with ice on the glasses in the freezing fog. Took cycle path back (same as yesterday) past my work (as it's a better surface than the main road), touched a white line towards the top and over I went! Slid a little but no real damage, just bruises and a hole in my tights (both thermal overtights now have similar holes/scuffs in similar places from ice falls!). Fell over again when putting the chain back on, it was that slippy!

Fingers crossed the ride back in to fetch her from work later is uneventful. If things are like ice again tomorrow I'm going to say sod it and drive. 1 fall in 4 icey rides for both of us is very lucky and probably best not to chance it this close to going on holiday...!:o

I was going to head out today in Hereford for a 30 miler but looked at the roads and thick fog and thought better of it. Will aim to go out tomorrow instead as the forecast is set to be more cycling friendly!

^Same. Defo doing a 100 miler tomorrow.....on my new bike :)

I'm up to 78kgs now. I was a consistent 75kgs back in October ish. Too much travelling (work) and xmas has taken its toll!

Will be up for that, providing it's not earlier than 9 or later than 4! ;)

I am looking to head out about between 10 - 11 which is when the fog is meant to clear (or so the BBC tells me). My intended route is just under 30 and was going to be a mixup of my usual routes: Rotherwas -> Holme Lacy -> Mordiford -> Dormington -> Marden then up to Pool Head and back into Hereford via the straight road through Sutton St Nicholas. Mostly flat and hopefully quickish.

Feel free to join, although I appreicate it is the other side of the City from you!

Festive 500 Complete.

Started 6 days ago bright and early on Christmas Eve at the crack of dawn getting a headstart with 103 miles on the first day to get one third over and done with, finishing up this evening with an extended commute home to finish dead on 500km. Another achievement ticking over 7000 miles for the year today on that final ride. (no mincey turbo miles included in that! :D)

Fueled along the way by a mixture of mince pies

and Beef Wellington!

Once again the Pinnacle performed flawlessly throughout as it did last year, even though it got chucked off my cars roof at 70ish mph... The tinsel survived all throughout too! Nothing beats an early morning ride with views like this. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my fellow cyclists.

Great effort. That Wellington looks awesome too!

Can anyone advise me on Rapha bib shorts? I'm in London in January and might treat myself in the Rapha store.
But there's so damn many! Classic, lightweight, pro and shadow. And combinations of some of those!
I'm just after a really good quality summer cycling shorts, comfortable on long rides (80 miles plus)

Awesome work on the riding and the wellington :)

My total for the year is probably going to be 6.8k miles though a few hundred of those are turbo miles. Not too bad given the collarbone break but I'd have been happier hitting my original 10k target.

On the other hand, my running totals are far more healthy compared to last year - 6x the elevation and approaching 10x the distance and time.
