Road Cycling

Final ride of the year for me today. Flat 23 miles on my single speed to tip me over 5600 miles for the year.

Proper rundown and review of 2016 and goals for 2017 to follow.

Club ride today took me to just over 6750 miles. Furthest I've ever done in a year so happy with that. It's always tricky for me to achieve mega miles with me travelling so often.

Looking forward to 2017. New bike.....hopefully I'll top 7k miles.

Need to lose my Winter weight increase before Spring too!

Probably because I've read so many mixed things about the Vectors. Yes the easy switching from summer to winter bike is a huge bonus, but they seem quite fiddly to setup, with many saying they can be very inaccurate if not torqued correctly.

Does anyone have the vector dual sided here?

P1's also come in a single sided offering now too ;) (and don't need to be torqued simple £3 8mm hex wrench, I'm sure others here don't torque their vectors and don't have any issues).

I was chatting with a guy in our club this morning with Vectors and he says he's had no issues with torquing them up.

The P1s look horrendous though! and are massive!!

I'm in no rush so we'll see what comes out in the next few months or so......

Has anybody seen any great deals on Garmin 820s?

My 800 is finally starting to give up after 4 years. The battery starts to run low after 6 hours and the usb port is worn to the point where it doesn't always get detected by a PC!

Why not get the Wahoo Elemnt. They have an offer on (ends tonight). £50 cash back for your old computer. The basket amount was £190 when I looked yesterday.Which looked like they were deducting the £50 on purchase. Its a nice device - mate has it and thinks its much better than Garmin.

Interesting idea!

How well does the Elemnt handle GPXs? I like being able to plot a GPX course in something like RidewithGPS and then load it onto my Garmin so I have turn-by-turn directions anywhere in the world I might travel with my bike.

We went MTB yesterday and it was excellent at that. My riding buddy always uploads the route from Ridewithgps and it seems to cope well. It also has good analytics and will give you TSS unlike Strava

Does 'Back to start' too so you can just go exploring and turn back whenever you fancy. Displays loads of metrics such as time in HR and Power zones, % of FTP, w/kg etc etc. Can very easily reorganise fields as well as switch entire screens/displays on & off (I have a screen for Zwift, club runs, TT, turbo etc etc). Works with BestBikeSplit too but I've no experience.

45 New Data Fields 31/08/16

Bought mine back in June having used a 500 for about 2 years prior and I don't miss the Garmin platform one bit.

Kimi uses his with his KickR to ride iconic climb profiles. The auto route sync from Strava is ace too :)

You will get good navigation but "proper" turn by turn requires a bit of messing about. Personally I could live without it so if I didn't have an 810 already I'd probably get an Elemnt.

Well - put it this way - I've budgeted £1,000 for upgrades to my bike so £450 on a vector pedal and £500 towards new summer wheels.
£500 doesn't buy you much in the 'wheel world'! ;)
I have a set of v1 single sided that will be going on eBay soon, as I can't really be bothered with this power lark... I can shout up when they go up if anyone's interested.

I had a dream last night that my handlebars fell apart mid-ride. That sucked.

I may get out for one last 2016 ride tomorrow, just to tip me over 5600 miles for the year.
Gimme a holla/trust when they go up and i'll go through the dilemma of buying them, same as every time I see a low price on a PWM! ;)
Lul, so now BC are banning them when the UCI ban is getting lifted? Really makes sense...!? :o
So I got the moon nebula rear light as a Christmas present. Comedy moment when I opened it up and working out how to switch it on in front of the gf I actually unwittingly blind myself looking right at it and pressing the button. Wow that thing is bright!

Thanks for the suggestions. I also got some little blinkers for the front and back.
Haha yeah mine is damn bright too, although I tend to run it on the lowest setting as I have it alongside a pulsing main rear. I'm always turning mine on by mistake when carrying it!

Those Zipp stickers are worth £££ though!

Given the difference between a good wheel and bad wheel at average speeds is probably (a lot) less than 10w, Chinese carbon all the way! Pocket the £200 and use your drops more if you want to go quicker.

there's 70 grams of drag between an open pro 32 spoke and a flo 60 at low yaw according to flo themselves

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jkofaCFjj.../-j1A-vqv0AY/s1600/FLO_Aero_Data_04-26-11.png

also according to flo, the 50g of drag = 6.5w

http://flocycling.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/flo-cycling-cycling-wheel-aerodynamics.html

which goes together to suggest the differences between the wheels of a certain height are likely tiny.

of course, if you're time trialling at the sharp end, the odd watt here and there is utterly essential, so you should definitely get the outright fastest regardless of cost. But if you're a leisure rider, cost/benefit leans hard towards Chinese....
