Road Cycling

A friend of mine had tons of issues with his rear brake due to the Stages pod so it's a fairly common thing with brakes behind the BB.

Personally I'd just get a different PM. Stages have a pretty bad rep.

Guess I'll share mine too. Missed most of my targets for the year though partly that's down to breaking my collarbone in Sep.

Oh my lord some of the stats in here are seriously impressive! Good effort lads!! A couple of your have cycled more miles than i've driven in my car this year :p

Came in here to ask a quick question regarding road bike pumps. I've not seen any road bike pumps, but do they have a pressure gauge on them? Or am i going to need to buy a presta valve standalone pressure gauge :(

I;ve not even rode this bike outside yet and i'm absolutely bitten by the bug :p

Also: how can i find people on Strava that i'm not friends with on facebook or e-mail. For example, how can i find and follow you lot, just to see how far behind i get :p

EDIT: Found out how :) I'll get round to adding you all, i'm Ryan abbotts :)

Wheels, confusing.

If I run a 9 speed shimano cassette and new wheels I want say 10/11 speed only - will just be safe to assume the wheels will include fact be OK if I get the right shim?

Wow, that's a deal-breaker for me. No way I'm replacing all my mounts. Looks like I'll be getting an 820 soon.

The K-Edge solution looks like it does the trick and cheap too.

Having used the Elemnt quite considerably now changing mounts, or using the adapter, seems like a no brainer but each to our own :o

it does - the electronics that are fitted to the arm of the crank are on the inside and thus with a direct mount rear brake it needs clearance which it won't have.

This has been confirmed by Shimano/Stages via support. I need to change my brakes for something else or it's a no go.

See below - I don't have 10mm space due to the way the rear brake is mounted.

Its really because the arm on shimano brakes stick that far out.

I've swapped out a few on felts with this tektro one and I think there's a few other solutions.

I pick this one up a while ago, certainly the best pump I've owned.

If your looking for something to carry with you while out I have a pocket rocket pump which does enough to get you home.

Welcome to the party AbbZ! If you're just starting out take it steady, it takes a long time of steady progress to do regular big rides like some you'll see here. Recovery is almost as important as riding, as is keeping motivation when you're increasing training load/miles/hours!

The vast majority of 'portable' hand style pumps won't have a pressure gauge as they're generally used for 'get enough air in to get home' purposes. The larger 'track pump' is what most will use when at home changing tyres/wheels and most will have and pressure gauge. I went through a cheap £12 and then a 'premium' £25 pumps before I settled on the Joe blow that someone linked. Incredible pump for the money and one of the best i've ever used!

As for a portable, I settled on a Leyzne co2 combo pump as wanted the co2 option. Previously I used a Crank Brothers Gem. Both good pump's, can get you links when at PC if you want.
Good find, they have other sizes the same price too (gonna grab some 28''s for future use).

A month or so back I posted a link how to unlock some Zwift jerseys in here, did anyone bookmark it?
