Road Cycling

yeah but anything over 24nM is damn tight (max of most 'medium' torque wrenches),

That is what is recommended. And no it's not out of my torque wrench. You need two, 1/4 and 1/8". My Halfords pro torque wrench goes upto 60nm, which is perfect for bicycles

mostly because after some day to day grit & winter weather they'd almost be impossible to undo.

That's why you use anti seize compound on the threads. Carbon frames are around 5/6nm

It'll mainly be for pacing myself and gauging long rides. At the moment I base it on HR (and HR zones) but of course that's sometimes relative and not representative.

I ride to work too hard most days, as I really feel it on the weekend club rides a lot of the time (easy to get carried away in nice weather!), so riding to %FTP would be useful.

It'll put into perspective the 'total work done' and make managing training volume objective.

As you say HR is a response to effort not a measure. I see the same burn from a moderately tough 3 hour solo ride that I do a 4.5hr club run, 20m less but about 1,500ft more climbing.

Yeah but anything over 24nM is damn tight (max of most 'medium' torque wrenches), I wouldn't think you'd torque anything carbon that high?! :o

Personally I've never torqued cassettes or crank arms to their specified (high) torque settings, mostly because after some day to day grit & winter weather they'd almost be impossible to undo.

Ive just replaced my BB after a year, it was grinding.

The BB threaded within the tool and is now permanently stuck within.

Pick soon.

Oh I do but that hardly makes things (like pedals!) 'easy' to undo! ;)

I've got quite a selection of torque wrenches, I use a 5nm clicker & a 3-12nm 'quick n easy' for most quick stuff. When doing things like seatposts/headset etc I break out the 2-24nm 'classic' torque and I do have a 20-100nm similar to this one which I've got for car stuff. I did my FSA gossamer cranks up with it once to 40nm and struggled for hours to get them undone afterwards & damaged the crank bolt in doing so. Never again!

I'll always tighten 'tight' things rated higher to near 30nm, as I know I can get them undone again without breaking out a long bar. Never had anything come loose, when I do I'll go tighter! :D

Which tool and what BB? I'm guessing not pressfit! ;):p
bit icy today :o

Just looks like frost! How slippery was it? Tarmac was clear here this morning, some frost on grass but was warmer than last night. Ambient around zero. No rain here yet but I'm fully expecting to get soaked at least twice today judging by my weather app...! :(

yeah, was pretty slippery but that is just my road. As soon as I got down to the main road it was fine, still took it slow!

greasy roads is the worst, had diesel spill on one roundabout scared the poo out of me.

I have the Park Tools crowhead majiggy for torquing the Vector pedals.... Only to realise my big torque wrench is TOO big and my little torque wrench doesn't go up to the required values that Garmin give.... So I have done what I always done with the Vector 1's and I have done them by hand and then done them fairly tight with my pedal wrench.

It is less of a factor with the Vector 2's for sure, as the pod goes on afterwards so you are not tightening the spindle onto the pod body. If you have a torque wrench, get the crowhead adaptor to torque them, but if you are going to have to buy a torque wrench for them, I honestly wouldn't bother. I won't be.

I don't often properly torque them when swapping, TT bike ones are as they're always on on that bike, but figure a good tighten with a pedal wrench is the equivalent, as long you're not a complete weed.

The crowfoot adaptor came with my vector 2s so you shouldn't have to buy one.

I bought one with the upgrade kit seperately.
The upgrade kit definitely didn't come with one supplied :(

What size socket fits the pedal spindle removal tool thing by the way? I have a 150 piece socket set and nothing fits it!!

lol @ price.

I think I'm correct in saying the single pedal system doesn't come with one, only the full dual system.

I'll find out in a couple of hours when it's delivered.

I'll just use a standard 15mm spanner for the moment, and ask my bike shop to check the torque.

Shame I'm flying out of the country tomorrow for a week, and the weather looks pretty good for the weekend! Typical.....I'll be rested for when I get back I suppose ;)

Looks like 2017 is going to follow hot on the heels of the last two years in terms of work screwing up my riding time. Oh well.

Thanks for the advice from Roady and hornetstinger, got myself a new cassette in a more favorable set of ratios so I'll throw that on with my new chain at some point. Also picked up a new mini pump and clearance Jersey. If I can't ride the damn thing I'll sure as hell spend money on it :p

So the ride in this morning was rather cold.

Average of -8. Only had 2 layers on the top. Jacket is the nuts! Beard froze mind as did my water bottle.

Got myself a Garmin 520, rode to work this morning with it set up in possibly the most amateurish way possible - I think I had 10 screens on rotation telling me some really useful stuff like my shoe size, bank balance, the temperature in Botswana and that my wife is cheating on me. Need to get my data screens set up but frigging hell what a faff it is without touchscreen! :p

Ordered some proper winter gloves (Gore Tex) - measured up properly so I didn't get the wrong size - when they came they sized up well short - how hard is it for 8 inches palm width to equal a pair of gloves that allow for 8 inches palm width? **** me what is wrong with clothing manufacturers - do they use special custom inches and cm's to the rest of us? Cold hands for another week (and then to top it off it looks like I'm going to find out just how good the DWR finish is on my jacket and winter bib longs & overshoes on the way home)

Excellent! I know what you mean about the setup. I have the same problem with my fenix 3 simplified slightly by only having a maximum of 4 data fields per page. In the end I've gone for just two screens. The basics (time, distance speed, average speed) on one and set it to automatically go to a second screen when climbing that shows gradient, elevation, cadence and heart rate. A bit billy basic but if I start fiddling with it while riding I'm going to ride into the back of a parked car or something!

Found out from a friend that his Canyon Speedmax CF, ordered in September, has been delayed again and now won't ship until May 2017.

How ridiculous is that!?

they've been getting a lot of bad press about the times but I'd be canceling my order haha.

That is CRAZY.

they either need to invest and expand to be able to handle the orders or they're going to bankrupt because people will simply go else ware.

who wants to buy a new toy and wait 10 months for it to come? cmon.

At work it takes less than a week to arrive.lol
