Road Cycling

Ah wow. There were 2 on the shelf at £55 each when I popped by. Had a sidewall failure too and didn't want to wait for delivery (fortunately noticed after a gear cable snapped on the way to Surrey.. not on a descent!).

Yeah never used Schwalbe's they did have some there but looked equally expensive. In truth the tyre already had a boot in it from a minor cut so I did need a new one. Had a fresh gp4000 at home which I hadn't yet put on. Argh.

Reckon they'll see me?

-8c out there this morning, positively penis shrinking.

lol wear some long jones and some sweat pants!

I've been waiting to fit my new chain for a week
Was hoping mine would last until feb or when the temps were not going to drop low enough again for them to grit/salt the roads. Some light rain on the last commute before my week away and I probably should've wiped my chain down before leaving things stood... Bit late for that now! Shameful colour of a chain! :o

Need a new one, I'm trying to find one that'll be my pit "female dog" for CX :D Surprisingly they've not been forthcoming so far :P
Tell me about it! Mine won't even clean her own bike! Still has plenty of time to moan at me I've not cleared up my cycling kit that's been on the floor for approximately 4 seconds.
This was before I even started cycling... Roast Dinner Manwich

Then came dessert. Just don't even ask.
That's quite impressive. I should've taken a picture of the pork chop, roast turkey, roast potato and jerk sauce starter I had last week (followed by a main course of noodles, mushroom risotto, rice & pea with a carved suckler pig inc clackling). Suffice to say I only had 2 cakes for pudding that day.

Buffet food (& all inclusive) is dangerous! Although they were doing some great smoothies at breakfast, there was a spinach and banana combo I need to try and recreate!

These?

They don't look to be marketed as commuting tyres? Why would they be any more robust than some GP4000?

yup, I'm not comparing them to GP4000's as I've had no experiance of them.

I simply got them to try and have done a over 3k miles now on a 2nd set and I have yet to get a puncture or any problems.

grip is good
puncture protection is great
rolling resistance is low
price is decent

it's a perfect training/commuting tire. I run 25c.

yesterday this scooter rider was riding like a mad man, either in a rush or just bored.. here's how his ride ended.

The one is the equivalent of a gp4000 so don't see how it would be better?

The durano/durano plus is more like it.

Monday night I stuck a patch on my front gp4000 as it had a tiny slit but good tread, went to work on wednesday and I was rolling down the lane by my house when got a puncture on a bucky bottle. Not even 20 feet from my door.

Karma for shouting at kids for smashing bottles a few days ago. Maybe i took it too far calling one a fat wee ****.

When using a power metre for pacing, is it better to ride to %FTP, or power zones?

I'm using %FTP at the moment (bear in mind I've only ridden with one twice now!), but that jumps about quite a lot (and I dont know my FTP fully yet).

The zones seem a bit broader and seem like they would be more stable.

As FT says just keep riding for a few more weeks and let the numbers become familiar.

I'll ride to a watt range or zone personally. To try and hold a specific % of FTP for the duration of a ride is difficult and silly, especially as you say you're not certain on this figure yet anyway. Unless you're performing an interval effort or on a long climb in which case it'd make more sense once you've got some clarity.

Just keep riding for now

Slightly gutting when you have a spare already at home!

Did anyone pickup any of the conti's on sale on the Canyon site? Have been meaning to grab a single 28mm gp4000 (as I already have one) for Diverge summer use. Just wondered what postage was like, time & cost?
You need a buff in these kind of temperatures, I wear one pretty much from October till February! I suffer with chapped skin and sore areas around my eyes/nose/lips from the windchill otherwise :)

Why would they be any more robust than some GP4000?
Because the GP4000sii's are quite a soft compound? Think the Schwalbe One is quite a harder compound, remember poking them in the LBS a while ago!

Dont worry I'll be getting lots of rides in soon.

Quick thought on my low cadence......are the 0 cadence figures included in the average?

I'm sure the 0 watts will be included in the ride average, but is it the same for cadence?

So is the default your total pedalling cadence, or total ride cadence?

Noticed my rear wheel looked a bit out of true when putting some lube on the chain this morning, gave the spokes a quick grab to see what the tension was like where the wheel was pulling to one side and then the spoke fell out with some of the rim still attached!

Second problem I've had with my Planet X, first one resulted in the frame being sent back and a 4 week wait, I'm going to try and get a new wheel sent out prior to then receiving this one.. not happy!

good luck - twice had to send frame back to planet x - dreadful customer service, long waits and poor communication each time. Would never buy from them again.

Boo, got up this morning to find I had a puncture on my single speed bike. Fortunately my winter bike just needed its tyres pumping up and then I was ready to go on that instead. Time to clean the single speed and change the tube, joy.

Indeed. I wouldn't describe either as "commuter" tyres.

road bike commuter tires? I mean I can't fit 32c studded shwalbes on my bike so 25c is mostly race tyres.

as far as things go, those that commute on road bikes with low clearance often run GP4ks so they could be classed as commuter tire.
