Road Cycling

My Gabba2 has arrived (which is a miracle in itself judging by Cycle Surgery's online review scores).

What sort of temp range do people find with the Gabba2 with and without base a base layer?

Ride mine with a base layer of varying thickness from about -2 to +10c. Most versatile garment I own for sure. Could easily ride in warmer weather with the zip down and vents open.

Yep same, I have two of them. They're my main winter workhorses until it gets silly cold (like well below 0)
In this sort of weather I use a base layer too, but without that it can go up to relatively high temperatures - mid teens or so. But I do run very hot most of the time, so I'm not the best guide.

In fact in the spirit of the sharing here's a recipe I found ages ago and have modified a few times over the years to my taste.

Ingredients

  • 300 grams baked sweet potato
  • 150g grams raisins
  • 3 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 100 grams well sifted white flour (I've tried wholemeal flour but the consistency was just weird)
  • heaped scoop of either flavourless or chocolate protein powder
  • 40g quality cocoa powder
  • 1.5 tsp. baking powder
  • 50 grams walnuts well chopped

1. Baking the sweet potatoes until soft.
2. Tip the raisins together with 2tbsp water in a mixer/processor and blend into a paste.
3. Add the paste into a bowl, crack in the eggs, sift in the flour, protein, cocoa and walnuts, and stir into a smooth batter.
4. Tip in the sweet potato and blend/mix further until smooth.
5. Pour into a baking tray and bake at 180 for around 30 minutes.

Yum yum yum! Great for on the bike, awesome recovery food for after the bike.

+1 to this. I generally opt for something fleece lined below about 2C just for a little extra warmth and I'm lazy at layering but the Gabba would be more than adequate. Must have worn it countless times since I got in in November.

I can't spot any chest vents on my Gabba 2 SS though all the online descriptions seem to mention it!

Pff expensive. Just make your own ;).
Oh I have done before, just found sourcing all the specific ingredients very expensive. Then the flapjack things I'd made had so much seasme seeds in (as per recipe) they put me off the taste of seasme! Needed a glass of milk to wash it down with (bit hard when you're out on the road)!

I love Cliff bars, but at ~90p+ each (bulk) they get expensive very quickly.

Thanks for sharing! How much do they taste of sweet potato? I'm not a huge fan of sweet potato fries...!
A very quick 8 mile lunch time ride. Very nice out apart from that wind
...And the rain!

Got soaked at lunch but some power figures from when I'm putting some effort in (rather than the easy ride this morning)!

Headwinds (pushing 200W to maintain 19mph downhill)!

All we're going to hear now is your wattage isn't it? :p :D

BAZOOOKAS EVERYWHERE! :p

Novelty will wear off soon don't worry. Thankfully I don't post much on the weekend... Weather is meant to be nice tomorrow morning so I'm going out. But half expecting/needing to pop to the LBS and pickup a bleed kit to sort my front brake. Ho hum. Prob do both (swing by LBS on way home)!

Hydra guys, is all I need to bleed my 785: a funnel thing, and this kit with a bleed tube and oil?

Think someone before said about Epic Bleed solutions? Was it you Chris?

Going to make a choice tomorrow, if my LBS think it needs bleeding and they have the kit&oil for <£15 I'll grab from them. If not (and it's not annoying me that much in the dry) I'll grab kit online and do it next week...

I've come to the uneducated decision that my system needs bleeding and it's not 'just' pad alignment.

EDIT: With the talk of Gabbas: http://blog.wiggle.co.uk/foul-weather-cycling-jersey-group-test-team-wiggle-2017

Your brakes are squealing under braking is that correct? If so it will not be solved in any way by bleeding the system. Your pads or discs have contaminants on them more than likely and only replacing them will resolve the issue.#

Also I spy my club colours in the Martin McKinlay shot.

I don't think it was but thanks for the reminder as I need to do my MTB :p

A friend has used their stuff and prefers it to the Shimano kit.

Yeah you do seem to get lots more in the kit. The guides are good also, much better than others I looked at last night.

5 minute mini-bleed, is what I think I'll start with. The full bleed guide makes it also seem quite straight forward to do a complete one at some point. But with my 6 month old (<2000 miles) system I shouldn't need to.
Not much at all - I'm not a huge fan either, but they're an awesome source of Carbs.
Cool, may give them a try! Have most of the ingredients, bar the walnuts and will have to use 'chocolate banana custard' powder as I've got tons of it! ;)

Only when wet. In the dry they're fine. I've always cleaned them with muc-off disc (scrubbed the discs with it too). But could be contaminated, how do I tell?
