Road Cycling

......and.....now I think about it......

It's a measure of progression too. Even if the results are 'non-realistic' in themselves, you can still use them as a comparison of how you rode x months ago etc.

If you average power for 20mins is steadily going up, surely you're getting stronger. Yeh?

Absolutely. I wasn't trying to suggest anything else. To be honest I was surprised by how high it was is all :)

When actually training FTP is a great guide for giving you target powers for your intervals. And as you say, it's nice to see numbers going up.

Anyone ride with 46/34 chain rings?

My cross bike has 50/34 at the moment. That's great on the road with slick tyres, but it's heavy going off-road with knobbly tread. I'm thinking of switching the 50 for a 46, assuming I can find a decent looking compatible chainring that doesn't cost the earth. I figure that should give me the best of both worlds whatever I'm doing.

Any thoughts?

I used to have 46/36 on my old PX XLS for on-road use and it was pretty pointless. However, I'm currently in the same position as you on my CX bike and I'd definitely recommend swapping your 50 out to a 46. Or even 44 (if that's possible - have never checked)

I've never had issues with CRC in terms of them having what they claim to have and sending it out quickly. It does feel that since the merger that Wiggle are trying to kill the CRC brand though.

Off for a bit of a cycle on the CX bike this morning. Should be fun.

However, I'm increasingly getting a bit annoyed with my PX Bish Bash Bosh frameset for my road bike. It's just really...tank-y. Are there any decent road-specific framesets with thru axles and discs yet? Di2 internal routing also preferred. I could probably give up the mudguard mount side of things based on how much positive feedback the new Cruc Road Racer Mk3s are getting... Maybe...

edit: Actually, wouldn't mind moving to flat-mount brakes too though it's far from a deal-"braker" (hoho).

I don't know if you could do Di2 internal routing, but my Cube Attain GTC Pro Disc meets your other requirements (it has internal 105 gear and hydraulic cables).

Planning to return to cat4 country early tomorrow before the sun gets too warm, Beacon> Old Winchester> Butser >Droxford Road> Wheely Down ... I might well have no legs left heading back for home!

Nice suggestion, thanks :) Looks like they have frames on bike-discount.de too. Hmmmmm....

So, riding my CX bike today around some local trails and a branch lodged itself into the wheel. DR might be knackered but the hanger is definitely fudged. Rather annoying. One of my friends with me managed to get things kind of working so I limped home stuck in easiest gear. 110 rpm to maintain 9mph. Excelsior :o

Was hoping to get out for a 100 today but it's chucking it down right now. Looks like it might clear a bit later so perhaps I'll try my luck in an hour or so and go for a metric or something.

Chaps would this be okay to secure my bike with the Krytonite cable?

http://www.argos.co.uk/product/3601626

Don't want to lug the D Lock around all the time.

Or what about a Masterlock from B&M for example:

If you don't mind your bike being stolen, sure.

If you want lightweight then get something like this: http://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/001447.html

...assuming your bike insurance accepts silver secure of course.

It's in a locked compound at work, but people have been known to jump over the metal fence (6ft high) and rob unlocked bikes. I don't see someone jumping over in broad daylight and cutting a lock surely?

I might nip to the bike shop at lunch and pick something up from there.

Sadly that sounds all too possible :/

Personally for work I just leave a very heavy and secure d-lock attached to a random bike stand rather than carry it to and from work all the time.

Anyone else doing the Magnificat this weekend?

I'm torn between doing the Epic route (which is what I signed up for) or the Standard route? Yesterday has knocked my confidence a bit in terms of whether I'd be able to manage it, given how hard I found the last 20 miles of the ride after all the climbing

You'll be fine with the epic. Riding in a big group is massively easier than riding alone or with just 2 of you. Just take extra food :)

My B-Twin helmet needs to go, it's great for <2 hour rides, but after that it starts to get uncomfortable. Any recommendations?

I'm looking at this one, but happy to spend less if there are other recommendations? Just looking for something comfortable

I have a Kask Mojito which has done me well even for 24 hours in the saddle. I imagine the Vertigo is at least as good :)
