Road Cycling

You shouldn't be able to stack discounts like that.

Ban me from Halfords if you like?

Super unorganised overall. They didn't let me know they had arrived in store - supposed to be available from yesterday. Called them. Got there and it took them 15 mins to find the items then it turned out they hadn't picked the adapters off the shelf. After another 5 minute wait for them to find the adapters they then claimed British Cycling discount is only for bicycles. Disputed that so another 5 mins while they checked with manager.

In fact it wasn't an online only discount so I don't see any breaking of the BC terms and conditions. Enlighten me.

Correct BCP is only for bicycle accesories, you (or they) cannot apply it to car products. Whether a roof rack is a car product, or bike product is manager decision.

British Cycling's terms and conditions for the discount beg to differ.

Members and official Fans of British Cycling can get 10% off everything in-store at Halfords, including sale items.

10% off is valid on any purchase, excludes gift vouchers and Halfords Autocentres.

Anyone else here have garmin vector 2's??

I'm having a right faff with them in terms of the clearance between the inside of my shoe and the pod. even moved my cleats as far "inside" as they go but they are still rubbing/catching the pod which is throwing out the readings etc.

Yep I've had them for a month or so now. No clearance issues, or any issues at all actually (apart from not being detected one evening)

I would really advise against moving cleats for that reason, you shouldnt need to sacrifice comfort etc just for clearance.

I am noticing with the Vector 2 pods now that I have to be very careful when clipping in whilst setting off. I stay clipped in with my right and then set off - clip in with left.
I am catching the pod quite often and in one case it has rotated the pod around a little so I am now having to be less of a brute and watch carefully as I clip in which is not ideal. No idea how I can sort this out but would put it down to different clearance between Vector 1 & 2 pods as I did not have such problems at all with Vector 1 pods.

Usual Halfords knowledge about discounts, BC can be used storewide as per the terms and conditions of membership.

Lethal` could you send me the details of how you did this?

On another note my Di2 battery has died. First TT of the season Sunday! Woohoo, ordered a new one from Wiggle, hoping it turns up tomorrow. Trying to find a local store that may stock...

Hello Roady :o I still cycle, I keep pushing and pushing but I'm bored of my commute.. kinda tempted to try a new route or something :o
One with some hills? ;)

I'm bored of my commute too, especially in the stinky winter weather! Now things are warning up I'm starting to enjoy it again (PWM helped with that) and it's a weird sensation!

During the winter I usually remind myself that cycling my commute is saving me ~£2000-2500 per year in fuel & running costs it's just something I 'do', as well as improving my base stamina so I have better endurance in the summer. It previously saved me time but after moving house it's a choice between ~10 minute cycle or ~5 minute drive. Getting changed usually takes longer than actually riding it! :o
Marathon Cross are officially 50-85PSI, https://www.schwalbe.com/en/tour-reader/marathon-cross.html

What pressures would you suggest given I'm ~79Kg on the scales, guessing ~84Kg all kitted out to ride, on a ~12Kg fatbike with skinny wheels?

I'm back down to ~70/77PSI now, should I try ~60/66, for riding on the road while pushing myself fairly hard to regain some decent fitness at 43?
Your weight, fitness and stuff are fine and 77PSI sounds fine for those tyres. As Rob said you could easily drop pressures down for some extra comfort without really sacrificing any speed, although as you're used to running them fairly 'mid-ground' of the recommendation, even dropping 5PSI will have a big impact on that air volume. General consensus for most roadie's running 700x23 or 25's is 'run them as low as you can without getting pinches', basically for comfort as tyres with such a small road contact patch don't really get 'slow' at lower pressures. Once you enter into larger air volume tyres (your 700x38 are much larger than most 'road' tyres) then it's a case of matching your rolling resistance (road speed) to the comfort you require. Dropping 5PSI can make a huge difference to feel at these volumes, but due to the already large contact patch with the road, it can depend on the tyres how much road speed is impacted. I'd imagine the 'city' tread and grippy nature of those Marathon's is already impacting speed so extra deflection of the tyre (with lower pressure) will impact it more.

I pumped my 700x28's to 85PSI front and 90PSI rear last night, huge difference to comfort over the 80/85 I was using through winter (I'd left them for several weeks so were probably nearer to 70/75 and very comfortable!).
Picked up two Thule 598 bike racks from Halfords with over 25% discount. 10% off online discount, 10% British Cycling and a gift card bought via work at 9% off. Nice little discount stack to make total £147.50!
Great deal! I nearly picked some up when a Ford deal had them for £100 each but I could never decide over the £180 they also wanted to fit some roof bars...

I thought the same. Just as much knowledge as the assistant that served me earlier...

Sent you trust.

Ouch. I fortunately managed to find a set of genuine roof bars for my car for a total of £25 second hand - never really used. Otherwise they would have cost me over £100!

Lol! :D

The majority of riders clip in their second foot with the pedal fairly high (and usually on the downstroke), so having the pods 'behind' the crankarms (towards direction of rotation) would seem like the logical solution to avoid the foot? :o
On another note my Di2 battery has died. First TT of the season Sunday! Woohoo, ordered a new one from Wiggle, hoping it turns up tomorrow. Trying to find a local store that may stock...
My mate had loads of problems with his internal battery and none of the local shops seemed to have one he could buy (but they'd happily order 1 in, just not take one from their built bikes). Seemed strange to me?! The guy he got it from (and who sent it back to his supplier) found it loads easier to source an adaptor to fit an external v1 battery (which everywhere seemed to have stock of). Ia availability of internal batteries really that poor? Or just general DI2 components in general?

Yeah I'd quite happily fit/source my own roof bars if I hadn't bought a damned 3 door without the fittings in the roof rails... Doh!

!

Could order one from Wiggle, have ordered one already. Trying to find one to borrow rather than order another with guaranteed saturday delivery. I know I can return, and it's only 4 quid postage, but I'm tight! None of the shops locally have any in stock.

It's just took me ages to figure out where Lethal's "ban me from Halfords" comment was stemming from, then I remembered my ignore list.

I think I'll be pretty warm on the ride home! Sun's out here and it's actually relatively warm. And I rode in with thermal gear.....hmmmmm......
Same, rode in my 'autumn/spring' jersey (Windslam blade, quite thick similar to a softshell) with thermal shorts, leg warmers & thermal tights this morning. Complete overkill but a short & low intensity morning/evening commute so I overdress. Switched my jersey to a lighter one (Sportful R&D Wind, has a lighter thermal liner) at lunch and ditched the thermal tights as it's a solo much higher intensity ride and I cooked a little even without many headwinds. Good to legitimately 'overheat' in warmer weather (rather than a combination of too much intensity for the winter clothing in cold weather). ;)

Going to dig the knee warmers out this weekend! Also lighter jerseys now an option for commuting, Superb feeling when the season really changes (for the better)! Hope it continues! :D

Have a good weekend all! I'm tempted by this (if I don't head out on any of the group rides)... Cleaned the bike last night so ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE! :D (cue muddy lane riding) :o

EDIT: https://roadcyclinguk.com/sportive/twelve-people-meet-every-group-ride.html - guess which I am! ;)

I'm probably stating something regarding Halfords discounts already known but...

While British Cycling gives 10% off everything in store (plus I believe one-off £100+ per month purchases at Chain Reaction and Evans), the Toyota club gives 15% off everything at Halfords.;)

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/membership/

Now ask me why my Voodoo Wazoo (currently £400 in sale before discounts) was such an impulse buy from me 12 months ago, that I signed up to neither BC or Toyota and forgot to use Topcashback as an alternative discount?! ;)
