Road Cycling

Have a google round for the cheapest price but the best locks on the market are the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit or Abus Granit X-Plus. Both need at least 60s and two cuts to remove with a handheld angle grinder. :D (That is actually a long time in bike stealing terms)

Yeah..I'd get the Fahgettaboudit if I was planning on taking the lock with me and leaving the bike somewhere less secure but in this case it's just something to deter casual thieves in a relatively secure area (but still want at least gold secure obviously, insurance and all that).

Tbh the other alternative is that I build a new commuting bike... Hmm.... ;)

Best lock is the cheapest one that meets the requirements of your theft insurance. Determined professional thieves will have your bike if they really want it.

But a Fahgettaboudit is £55 from Amazon. I don't think that's expensive and I certainly wouldn't get an inferior lock just to save £20 or so.

I'd rather my bike get overlooked because of the lock than go through the faff of an insurance claim where they'll do their best to make it void.

I don't think RS would see that as a problem - just means he can buy a new Canyon bike every three months ;)
I thought he did this already...? ;)
I'm not allowed more bikes... and we're supposed to be moving house, (the one we've seen has an even more cool basement for gym/ riding) so I reckon I'll get something to "build" and hide it in there :p
Good to hear you've found a place you like, is that back in the UK as you first mentioned, or just closer to family in France?
Just seen this Wiggins stuff. Whole thing is a witch hunt imo
It's turning into a complete media witch hunt! Cyclingweekly seem to be one of the worst, much of what I've seen is so far left wing biased it wouldn't be out of place in the Daily Wail. Who is CW currently owned by? Murdoch? :o

You don't find it odd that both Team Sky and our publicly funded national cycling governing body seemingly don't keep medical records for its riders?
By all accounts it was 'on a laptop' which got conveniently 'stolen' when the doctor in question hadn't uploaded the information from it to a dropbox account the medical staff used. It sounds like (to me) a very convenient excuse to 'lose' whatever papertrail they had. Equally I find it concerning that an organisation such as Sky is so reliant on a Doctor to remember about uploading a document, which so happens is the only record of something important such as medication to one of their most important members of the team. Anyone in business would have numerous paper trails, authorisation requests, confirmations and a hierarchy for it. With no single point of failure. I find it laughable that the doctors were/are operating autonomously regarding medicating the athletes under their control.

Again, I see serious problems within Sky, but I feel they have been blown out of all proportion. The concept of them being 'cleaner than clean' was a total misconception, anyone involved with the sport (even us as mere enthusiasts) knows there is no Black & White when it comes to Pro Cycling. This just proves it. I don't think the media really realise if things are so 'bad' within Sky, just how much worse they probably are in (I bet) 99% of the other teams. Sky put themselves in an impossible position, represented themselves VERY badly, but the whole thing is being fuelled and blown out of all proportion by the media. The media love a scapegoat, they love a 'bad guy' and Sky have conveniently given them one.

I'm still utterly convinced that any other team under the same scrutiny would be found doing far worse things! Not that any of them dare to comment, even though a few riders have.
So...about to move offices in work which means I'm going to have to lock my bike outside like some kind of plebeian. Anyone know of the cheapest place to get hold of gold secure d locks? I'm not interested in getting the best/lightest in this case as it will be locked somewhere relatively secure and I may get two of them.
I've got a Kryptonite Evo Series 4 (I picked up in a Wiggle deal) that doesn't have a home if you were looking for a bargain (as the other half doesn't lock her bike on the street any longer). I'm using a Series 7 myself.

Ok, so my ride partner for Sunday just bailed on me.

Felt a bit miffed, but I kinda expected "something" to come up.

Maybe it'll be better I can just focus on myself and ride at my own pace now, push when I want to push, rest when I want to rest, plus less rider chit chat = more energy for pedalling.

I took a gel Wednesday just to make sure they didn't zip straight through me and I had no ill effects at all - trial successful so I'll take 2 or 3 with me.

Although if you make such a public pronouncement of being uber clean, you do rather set yourself up to be held to a higher account.

Cycling has a history which makes it an easier media target but tennis is showing that every sport operates in that grey area that is always going to be incredibly hard to police.

Heads up to anyone who is near a CycleRepublic store they have the Sportful Flandre range on sale at decent prices.

SS Jersey is £45
LS Jersey is £65
Jacket is £85

What are everyone's general thoughts on them?

Quick one for TP users: is there an 'easy' way to import a load of data from Strava into it? Rather than having to go back to Garmin Connect?

All the info I can see if linking up things for 'new' recordings, not about importing old. the only info I've seen is 1 ride at a time.

One for Benny, how about from my ELEMNT, any auto-link or have to use ELEMNT->Strava->TP?

I've always had good success with Sportful and the Fiandre shorts are my go-to for winter. The only jersey/jacket I have worn lots is the R&D LS Wind one with Alphatech insulation. It's superb!

Any links to the ones in the sale?

I was passng by a store (Manchester) so not sure if they are online too. Will have a look and post the links if I find them.

I still have a Fiandre Norain LS jacket from last year I've yet to try. Never really gone for a ride in weather where it seems a better choice over the Gabba.

I really like my sportful long sleeve jacket that Roady discovered the deal for. Pocket is rubbish as one big item, but great for the cold miserable british weather.

Online it seems there is very few, most of it being womens. Good deal on the highviz Light Norain SS Jersey though (£45 is tempting...). Some deals on Alé, Assos, PearlAz and Gore. Most of it womens.

Which one? I've found the Fiandre norain range to be good for insulation but not as good as the nanoflex stuff for rain protection.
Ones I own (just looking at Fiandre/Norain):
  • R&D LS Jersey - 2014 model, fantastic insulation, breathable and light. Half the weight/density of a softshell, with the same insulation, yet also being breathable enough for a much wider temperature range. Would buy again (just not at £140!). Was it this one Paul? Think I got mine for £65 from Bike.inn?
  • Fiandre NoRain Shorts - My go-to winter shorts, have 5 pairs. I wear these from pretty much October till May for commuting and leisure. Under thermal tights in winter, usually with knee/leg warmers. I don't suffer from overheating legs like some guys. The norain treatment has worn out/run out but I've not bothered to retreat them as the fabric is generally dense enough to withstand showers. Could find in sales for £65 around Xmas time. The 'Light' version I also own a pair of but I wouldn't recommend, non-thermal fabric but poor fit and stretch. Normal shorts & just treat them with Nicwax would work out the same (with better fit).
  • Fiandre Light Norain LS top - A useful layer to put on for showers or protection from road spray, but not enough protection in drizzle/light rain. A good stopgap between getting wet in a normal jersey and getting humid in a packable. Useful but not worth the price tag, I've used it as a midlayer more than for rain protection.
  • Fiandre Norain cap - Overpriced but works very well. Would be boil in the bag in warm weather. More elasticated fit than normal cotton caps so fits me well (big head).
  • Fiandre LRR SS Rain jacket - Superb piece but the one I snagged in a sale was too big (Large) so sold it on. For a 1 layer in the spring/autumn when racing/high intensity it'd work very well. Very expensive, it's intended to pair with arms to replace a jacket but I'd say a jacket would be a better investment.

The Elemnt App will automatically upload to TP once accounts are sync'd. Click on the 'push' (box with up arrow) icon on an activity in the companion app which will open the 'sharing' pane. Then you can see which it's been sent to already and additionally send it to others or send by e-mail.

You'll end up with duplications in TP if you have Strava & Elemnt both sync'd to your TP account so your PMC will look LOL until you delete these entries as TSS is duplicated. I'll manually overwrite TSS & IF values for outdoors rides whilst my FTP & LTHR is set slightly lower in TP during winter due to the inertia of my turbo robbing me of 10% inside. To compensate if you will.

I think you can bulk export from Strava and bulk import in TP, search the site as they do have a guide but I think I found it a bit problematic.

Rides without proper PM data are a bit gash in TP though you can calculate TSS off HR in TP but I just manually exported & uploaded my rides since acquiring a PM and was then patient enough to let the PMC populate itself over time. You can adjust starting parameters/values.

You can also backdate increases in FTP by date range to adjust TSS & IF values accordingly in TP which can be useful.

Ah, yeah 'Revisiting' rides already recorded on the ELEMNT can be pushed out to TP after I link it... But still only 1 by one, grrr... My 4 commutes per day is going to make that quite painful.

Although I'm only going to go back a couple of weeks as don't really want to include anything before my PWM (no point really). As you mention, patience to let it populate as I ride is the best way, but I want to play with it! ;)

I'm very much hoping/looking for integration from the base app/record rather than using Strava data which is already '2nd hand'. I know Zwift will link directly, but I was stupidly looking from the TP side for a mention of Wahoo, rather than looking from the ELEMNT side! ;)
