Hive Mind....I'm in the market for some new winter bibs....what are the best ones you have tried? I am leaning toward Castelli or treating myself to Rapha but if there is equal performing for cheaper I'd be open to suggestions

my castelli winter bibs are superb - 2 years old, washed loads and still good. bar the stickers/branding badge eventually falling off the hip - they have been great

Have heard good things about the Castelli Omloop shorts. Rapha Pro Team Winter Bibs are supposed to be some of the best you can get (with a price tag to match). Lots of club guys wear Endura Thermolite which I almost tried.

As mentioned above, my go-to winter shorts are Sportful Fiandre NoRain. I've bought them various places, anything less than £80 seems a good deal at the moment, if you can still find them in stock. Cheapest I found was £65 from Evans' and £68 from Wiggle (both OOS now), in late summer/early autumn.

Ahhh, same as Paul I'm guessing. Unsure how I pointed out a deal on them yet didn't get one myself, doh! ;)

Have a good weekend all!

Good luck with the MMH merlin/Julian, take your time and enjoy it! You'll make some friends as many early season sportives with 'changeable' weather conditions turn into a team effort! As it's your first the time doesn't matter, just getting to the end does! :)

Yes I'm pretty sure it was you that pointed out the deal. Thank you very much for making me buy something I never ended up using :p

(I'll use it some day!)

Yep
This one - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sportful-fiandre-no-rain-jacket/

Material generally feels like it would be too warm in most cases and I'm not super keen on the one big pocket to be honest. New version has three pockets.

I like it for just a do it all jacket for the cold. Can be used for the commute or longer rides in rubbish weahter and for warming up/down when racing. Fits well, but the pocket lets it down.

That commute sucked balls! Sweaty balls! Sweaty balls that have just climbed vonteux!

It was dark, wet, cold and very windy. This alone was ball suckingly bad. 6 miles in - about halfway home - I hit a stretch of road with terrible surface. There's only one clear bit where they've run a new pipe down the length of the road, but if you're inside of that, there's little lumps at every house where a pipe or cable or whatever goes from the big pipe to each house. Riding down the inside of it sucks balls. If the road is clear you can ride down the smooth bit, but not if there's traffic and you haven't pushed your way out. It sucks balls. I hadn't got on to the smooth bit, so I was battling with the bumps when some berk passed way too close and I swerved left, right into a ball suckingly huge pothole. Cue pinch flat on the front and rapid loss of pressure. I stopped in a bus shelter and fixed it - yay co2 - and then set off again, but you know what it's like setting off in the cold when you're soaked, so the remaining 5 miles were a real battle.

And to top it off I forgot to restart my garmin so I lost two miles!

It. Sucked. BALLS.

Ended up getting a jacket and a jersey in the end. The jacket was the all singing all dancing No Rain jacket. Fits very snugly and it feels like it will keep me very warm but happy with that for the commute. And then got the long sleeve jersey (link below) for when it's not raining but just cold, will take a stuff away waterproof with me when using this one as a get out of jail card.

I thought commuting by bike was suppose to be cheaper!! At the moment it isn't but I'll stop when I've built up a good selection of kit right? :D

As its been mentioned the updated version now has three pockets but it's a shame that it doesn't have a zipped pocket though. As much as I'm sure my keys wouldn't come out I just don't trust putting them in an open pocket.

Ok, so my ride partner for Sunday just bailed on me.

Felt a bit miffed, but I kinda expected "something" to come up.

Maybe it'll be better I can just focus on myself and ride at my own pace now, push when I want to push, rest when I want to rest, plus less rider chit chat = more energy for pedalling.

I took a gel Wednesday just to make sure they didn't zip straight through me and I had no ill effects at all - trial successful so I'll take 2 or 3 with me.
Looks like it will be wash out on Sunday, along with cold temps. I hate those type of rides :/

I might even wear my nice water proof jacket which has been sitting in my wardrobe for over a year unused.

I might risk a heavy base layer, gabba 2 LS and boil in the bag packaway rain jacket and hope that's enough.

Tricky not under or over dressing - dont want to get wet or cold but also dont want to get stuck with too many layers!
