Road Cycling

But the club run number seems absolutely ludicrous and almost seems like a club lording over others.

We sometimes have problems with non-members turning up to join the club rides (I dont mean first-timers, we allow that)
Maybe having club run numbers would help with that - although we'd still run into the same problem: nobody has any authority to stop people from cycling on public roads so nothing can be done about it.

this fan fun.. not :o :D poor guy
Hate that smell! Not quite sure why he continued, probably making it worse?! There were loads of places to pull over! :o Drivers!
i think i'll get the Sportful Pordoi WS Jacket whilst its £75 and not £150
also it is a Gore Tex product, so it will be good , and performance should be just as good as a Gore windstopper / Element jacket
It'll be awesome. Only real Sportful 'jacket' I own is a Wind jersey and the quality is superb! The Sportful jerseys command quite a high price premium (so do the Castelli) putting them on par with some of the other offerings like Rapha. I imagine they're all much of a much-ness for actual performance (all superb!).

Wiggle sent me used Park Tool cable cutters. Very cheeky of whoever used them and sent them back but would have expected them to look a bit closer... I could see the scratches straight away and upon opening them there was a liquid running down the side
I'd be asking for a refund or returning them with a complaint as 'damaged'! Well worth messaging their CS with a picture, I've always found them great.

My S-Works 6 shoes arrived today - so my red and black theme is now complete......

.....and I also got my club ride number

How closely colour matched is the Red? They all look superb (as do your pictures, always nice not to see a potato-cam lol) :D

Shame it's a Canyon and not an S Works Venge... ;)

Don't listen to them - you'll look fabulous ;)

Seriously though, they're pretty awesome looking. Red and black is totally my choice of cycling colours.
Hate to say it, but I've been a convert too. Previously I didn't really like black, much preferring lighter colours like blues and whites. Now after wearing Black/Red/White NFTO kit I'm loving the contrasting combination of colours LOADS! :D

Yep - you only get one if you have paid the annual subscription of £30, which also gives you some other benefits too.
Like British Cycling then. Still not quite sure why wearing race numbers outside of racing is seen as a 'thing'. What do they do when racing, special club race numbers? ;)

I'm itching to get out on my bike - ive had to stay off it because of a back/hip muscle injury, not quite healed up yet but i can at least now get my own socks on and reach down to tie my shoe laces. That's progress :p
Do some easy turbo work to help the flexibility, you can go as easy as you like on the turbo without falling off & avoiding any hills/power work! :)

Fast one at Maindy last night! Maybe my thoughts of trying racing there need to be put on hold ;) :o

Yeah I sent them a message straight away. They sent out a new set but I don't think they did next day delivery :(

in b4 new set equally used!

Lethal and Booyaka.... there was snow on the Glendoe last year and the year previous, there was about 8inches of snow fell about 1 hour after the event finished.
Weather has been superb up here of recent but it can turn and go back to full winter any time up until.... well any time, even in June :p
Chances are it will be nice. But not at 6am when you are off. It will be 0-5 degree's at that time even if forecast is for 16 degree's at lunch time so pack the leg warmers and winter booties as it will definitely be very cold when you set off.

Urgh. Why am I going to Scotland? :D

Mind you it was up to 20 degrees here during the day yesterday but it was average 5C for my ride in the morning... Brrr.

I need to get some new bibs. Current shorts are Castelli in a Large which are a bit big now (fabric has stretched I guess), tried a medium last year and couldn't stand up properly.

I'm going to order a few different pairs to try on. Are the sizing / fit on castelli and sportful different or given they're the same company are they very similar?

Castelli and Sportful sizes match up with bib shorts.
Castelli size XS is difficult to get but a lot easier with Sportful and it fits perfect. So I have had size S and XS in both and at those sizes they are very very comparable.

My overwhelming concern with the club run numbers is that it looks suspiciously like a race number and the last thing cyclists needs is more grief from motorists for treating the road "like we're in the bloody Tour de France". It also looks a bit try hard, if you want to enter a race then do it...

That said, a bike marker of some sort is not a bad idea for encouraging people to join but I would suggest a subtle seattube decal or something similar. Would still be obvious on a club run who is and isn't a member.

Sent out normal delivery so I won't see them until next week :(

We usually would have had to ask for the product to be returned first with tracking and then once this had been received, then I could create a replacement order for you in advance. However, as a gesture for you as I understood you needed the item sooner than later, I sorted the issue out for you first and then just asked you to return the item at your earliest convenience.
Wow. Super generous of them :D

Eugh. Yeah lol.

On another note, how many people continue turboing through summer?
I haven't previously as I used to have to strip/dismantle turbo setup (patio) but now this year I can leave things setup (garage) I probably will. Although I'll probably be using it more for convenience rather than any real sessions, being able to jump on when I have an unknown amount of time available to ride or the weathers rubbish outside. Also useful for jumping on to do a cooldown when returning from a ride.

So climbing/riding at the same power as an interval on the trainer with similar recoveries. Fortunately I have a PM so know this with certainty. I will probably get a few AM sessions in before work during the peak summer months when it's cooler.

If you do train with Power outdoors you'll notice that it can take quite a bit of work to achieve a similar average or notional power outdoors as it does on the turbo.
I need to get a thru axle sorted for my Diverge for this very reason - smart turbo on 1 bike and PWM on another does not a comparison make!

I find it quite 'easy' on the turbo to hit and hold certain wattages, far easier than when out on the road. Yet on the road I generally see much larger numbers (even as I'm only displaying 3s avg power), which I obviously can't sustain. 300W when on a gradual climb seems sustainable. 300W on the turbo doesn't feel like I could sustain it. A huge part of that is the 'gradual' climbs just being drags under a mile in length when out on the road.

If they're anything like mine then they're pretty indestructible and will pick up lots of bumps and scratches anyway, I use mine for loads more than just cutting housing! ;)

Are the sizing / fit on castelli and sportful different or given they're the same company are they very similar?
They're similar, I find Sportful slightly more forgiving making a Large Sportful summer short a better fit on me than a Large Castelli. I also prefer the Sportful BodyFit pads over the Castelli KISS pad used on some of their cheaper range, yet the Castelli Progetto pad is my favoured over the Sportful BodyFit Pro when looking at more 'premium' shorts.

For my winter shorts (rain-resistant & thicker) I wear XL Sportful Fiandre NoRain. As they don't stretch as much as summer shorts I find the XL a little more 'forgiving' (and they were much easier to source in sales!). Also means I can carry a little more 'winter warmth' and eat more comfort food! ;)

xdcx with his micro sizing kinda reflects very little difference. Me in larger sizing pretty much reporting the same...

Largely because there will be undulations in power throughout the pedal stroke due to the road surface and also changing grade, however minor and even if you can't feel them they are there. Also kinetic energy carried and inertia are very different to that of a turbo.

Unfortunately with Wiggle it is the downside of the returns policy that so many people love to exploit.
Yeah I figured as much. Someone has probably used them a good few times and still had the box.

Just would have hoped they'd have a visual inspection that consisted of more than identifying the product is in the box :D

I returned a pair of Oakley Jawbreakers to Wiggle that supposedly had a photochromic lens but when I left them in the sun with one lens covered nothing changed.

Makes me wonder if they were bought originally and had the photochromic lens swapped for a clear lens and returned!

Considering this Sportive in a couple of weeks time, although I may have left it little late getting 'clearance'...

Tour of the Black Country - 160 km long and takes in 30km of cobbled roads, stony farm tracks and bridleways in the West Midlands, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Staffordshire. Modelled on the epic European Classic ‘Paris-Roubaix’, it includes 19 unpaved sectors, varying in length from 600m to 3800m, all of which are passable on a standard road bike.

Know a guy who did it last year and enjoyed it. Wolverhampton isn't that far away from me really, 1.5 hours from Home (or 45 mins from my sisters in sutton coldfield). Ideally I'll convince the other half to visit her grandparents in Cannock after crashing at my sisters the night before...! Plans! ;)

Wtf Benny, a bearing as your signature image only minutes after I've been googling 6806LLB's for my BB... Or has my cache FUBAR'd?! My cache :E

Makes me wonder if they were bought originally and had the photochromic lens swapped for a clear lens and returned!
Maybe someone threw them under a bus? :D

Too soon? ;)

sorry to hear that Merlin, was this a bike accident ?

ive been itching for 2 years, nearly 3 !
things are chaining this year, im switching to get my injection done privately now, rather than miss another summer ! so fingers crossed ill be back on the bike (be it slow pace and a couple of miles) within the next 4 weeks :)

Shocker that a club costs a small fee to join.
It's a non-profit club; the fee covers insurance for yourself & the lead rider rider on the weekly club rides. You get 10% discount on the club kit and the summer & autumn Sportive rides. You also get 3 'free' club rides to decide if it's something you would like to continue.

It's very well organised; the A, B and C group route gpx files are published every week to download and general comms is helpful and timely.

that sounds more organised than ours, and more stuff you get, but the fee is more
