Road Cycling

hehe no worries Roady

right, been on wiggle all morning today, and im looking at instock in a large
im currently looking at these, what do you think ? those or alternatives? or not at all ?

Summer Jersey - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/altura-peloton-short-sleeve-jersey/
Soft Shell (Flu Yellow) http://www.wiggle.co.uk/gore-bike-wear-element-windstopper-softshell-jacket-1/

Also this soft shell, but i want it in Flu Yellow , not sure how this compares to the Gore) http://www.wiggle.co.uk/castelli-trasparente-3-wind-jersey/
Wiggle is dangerous! ;)

I have no experience of Altura kit, I would probably go with DHB if I wanted a quality jersey for ~£25. The Castelli jersey is a good buy but be aware that the only colour available is Red and not the Blue one in the picture.

As for the Soft shell, again, I've no direct experience of Gore's. Depending on the colour the price varies from £60 for the Blue (small), £81 for the Fluo (S-M-L) and £105 for the Red (small).

I'd probably go the Castelli as I'm a bit of a label tart and know the quality & sizing. Excluding the Castelli for a windproof softshell I'd probably not choose the Gore, I'd go with one of the many DHB offerings costing considerably less:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-blok-prism-softshell-thermal-jacket/
Those first two might not be that windproof, but this one is:

If you're happy shopping around up to the £100 price range for a Softshell then there are many options as several of the 'premium' style jackets are now in sales. I would include the Sportful Pordoi, Sportful Fiandre Light, Castelli Velocissimo, Castelli Mortirolo 4, Castelli Senza 2 etc etc etc...

I've been poised to snipe several of the premium Sportful tops when the prices drop below £100... R&D Zero, Fiandre NoRain and even the crazily over priced Fiandre WS LLR. Maybe one day! ;)

I have a removable long-sleeve Gore softshell windstopper/slightly water proof top and it is excellent. They basically invented waterproof and breathable fabrics so they know what they are doing.

Wow they've worn fast, are the bearings really that specialised/unique they can't be replaced at the LBS? Or all to do with the strain gauges and calibration? Just thinking if it's due to wear (or poor design?) that you'll get the same problem again? I know they revised the battery caps but has there been other developments? I've not seen different 'versions' mentioned.

Too many wattzzzz

Think there are cases of known bearing issues which were resolved in later production units. There haven't been different versions as with the Stages for example.

Pretty certain that specialist tooling is needed and the bearing part numbers (1 set of needle bearings, and two others) are Powertaps own and don't give out the specifications. Whilst still in warranty (2 years) it'd be silly to even try.

Hate the smell of burnt clutch. Need to wash some cloths twice before now to get the smell out. (burnt a clutch out in a works van after the gearbox decided I only needed 3rd & 4th)

Definitely not a race then :D

@booyaka looks like you're in the same start wave at 06:19. I'll probably tag onto your group if you don't mind, save doing it 'solo'ish.

worried that you know my real name........:p:p

Sure thing - think we have 3 or 4 in the 6-15 wave, 3 in the 6-19 wave and one random in the 6.27 wave. Likley to be 3 or 4 of us in one group as a few of the boys are out to win it!!:p:p

I'll let you know nearer the time what gear I'm wearing etc - that way easy to spot in the morning!

Your fault for following me on Strava ;)

Scotland should be full summer gear right? :p

Wiggle sent me used Park Tool cable cutters. Very cheeky of whoever used them and sent them back but would have expected them to look a bit closer... I could see the scratches straight away and upon opening them there was a liquid running down the side

My S-Works 6 shoes arrived today - so my red and black theme is now complete......
