Road Cycling

My S-Works 6 shoes arrived today - so my red and black theme is now complete......

.....and I also got my club ride number

What the heck is a club ride number?

Don't listen to them - you'll look fabulous ;)

Seriously though, they're pretty awesome looking. Red and black is totally my choice of cycling colours.
dont get me started

when i started cycling, my bike is a lovely cobalt grey, with white shoes, first jersey i bought was red
many years later , same bike, still grey, but i now have either white shoes or "red, white and black" ones and loads of red (or Flu orange) jerseys ;)

Ah nice. Must have seen yours go by as I was there early afternoon. Did see a group of 3-4 paceline heading the other direction with backpacks on somewhere nearer Longcross so I guess they were involved in the earlier race.

You must have had a tailwind up Staple Hill but I can only imagine the sharp bend to go up Staple Hill contributed to some of the crashes?

Yeah, hill easier that usual as a result of the wind meant the race stayed together more that it would have otherwise. One crash with a guy shattering his elbow at the sharp turn. Another which I was behind on the other side of the circuit downhill. Never pleasant having to wait behind someone at 30mph while they slide along the ground and begin to settle before you can begin to take evasive...

Yep - you only get one if you have paid the annual subscription of £30, which also gives you some other benefits too.

Managed to get out tonight, heavy legs, site knee into a headwind on the way out.

Felt like I could have went home and been done with it.

Finally loosened up and the pain went away, got two punctures and was glad the 3 guys waited, at least I can change them quickly!

Wound it up near the end with me and another guy sprinting away then closing the gap on each other. Not sure if I've overcooked it for 80-100 miles tomorrow.

I'm itching to get out on my bike - ive had to stay off it because of a back/hip muscle injury, not quite healed up yet but i can at least now get my own socks on and reach down to tie my shoe laces. That's progress :p

Ouch. These are the kinda stories that put me off trying racing.

Never heard of anything like it. If I saw you on your way back from the club run I might mistake you for being in a breakaway/dropped and expect to see the rest of the race coming up behind. I'd have thought club kit is generally a pretty good indicator of club membership?

Rule 75

Sounds utterly ridiculous to me. Does not sound like a very inclusive club.
Shocker that a club costs a small fee to join.
It's a non-profit club; the fee covers insurance for yourself & the lead rider rider on the weekly club rides. You get 10% discount on the club kit and the summer & autumn Sportive rides. You also get 3 'free' club rides to decide if it's something you would like to continue.

It's very well organised; the A, B and C group route gpx files are published every week to download and general comms is helpful and timely.

I mean the club run number. Not the joining fee. Unsurprisingly as a keen cyclist I also am a member of a club and part of the committee now and understand what the £30 is for which is about average. But the club run number seems absolutely ludicrous and almost seems like a club lording over others.

As a club member you get discount on kit, surely as a non member you can't buy club kit? That'd be wierd if you could/would want to.

So much hate over a number :p
It's effectively just a 'badge' with the club web address, so if anyone out on the road is interested can look it up.

Lethal and Booyaka.... there was snow on the Glendoe last year and the year previous, there was about 8inches of snow fell about 1 hour after the event finished.
Weather has been superb up here of recent but it can turn and go back to full winter any time up until.... well any time, even in June :p
Chances are it will be nice. But not at 6am when you are off. It will be 0-5 degree's at that time even if forecast is for 16 degree's at lunch time so pack the leg warmers and winter booties as it will definitely be very cold when you set off.
