Road Cycling

I didn't get overtaken for 46 miles after leaving you guys besides my 30 second feed stop. Was really hoping some similar pace riders had stopped at a feed stop and peel out at a convenient time or pass me! I jumped onto the front of a group of 20 or so doing 4mph less and slowly accelerated away hoping I'd tempt a few riders with me but no one budged :(

yeah - that as the same for me and Dave - passed everyone on the way in, never got passed once by anyone. Even a 60 second stop to top up bottles, we passed people a 2nd time who hadn't stopped. lol

Other 3 lads ended up in a group of about 20/30 people with one chap doing huge turns on the front and was happy to do so. He didn't want anyone in front of him! lucky gits!

Annoyed much

I'm waiting to go out on a ride tonight but my partner is stuck on a closed M40 so I'm here looking after our son, missing out on ride action :( :( :(

Got 5th for the KoM and 5th overall, so I'm pretty happy with that. :) Strava link

Nice one! Sounds like a good bit of fun. The fastest time up the climb was pretty insane. I'm pretty happy with 66th considering I didn't know it so I had to keep a fair amount of reserves in case some gradient tried to make me blow. Though Dean's run down of the climb certainly helped as I knew that despite going downhill at 34mph halfway through the climb that wasn't it over :D

Hah. How odd, if he doesn't want anyone in front then he should properly attack!

That **** usually happens to me, frustrating.

Wife/kids/dog/work or some random drop in by a family member. Or torrential rain right out of nowhere 2 mins before leaving. :p

Hey guys.

Just got back from Liege-Bastogne-Liege and im already servicing my bike; small write up about the story later.
Anyway, ive taken both the upper and lower steering cartridges out and rubbing the bearings is like sandpaper on sandpaper, I swear I could start a fire with the friction on both of them. I have not noticed until I took them out.

Anyway I need a pair of replacements and I need some help.

The upper says MH-P08F (41.8 x 8 x 45)
&
the lower says: MH-P22 (46.9 x 7 x 45)

I have no idea about steerer bearings/cartridges and looking on popular online shops, is a bit dazing. Would someone be able to take 5 out and spell out to me what I need? I think they are fairly standard....

cheers
J/K.

I presume you mean the upper and lower headset bearings??

Check - https://www.bearing-king.co.uk/

Key in the first part of the bearing number you have - MH-P08F - that should then match up with the other numbers.

Bearing OD: 41.8mm
Bearing Thickness: 8.0mm
Internal Angle: 45 Degrees

Both on that website - about £8 each

I just managed to get out for a quick 23 miles.
I know exactly what you mean though.... take tonight. usually the wind is lowest in the evening, but tonight as I'm riding, it's blasting up to 30mph, grrrrr :/

I'm spending my night redoing my frame in 3M tape. Quite satisfying. Plus it'll tick me over till Wednesday evening.

Is your boy old enough to get on a road bike yet? My girls are both mad into track riding now - they're hooked - one is just about on a 540c the other rides a 650c.

Never a good sign when you take your hub apart.......

Anyone know where I can get a replacement clip/spring that holds the pawls inplace - even it's proper name would be good!!

Amazed I made it 25 miles with those bits rattling around inside the hub !!

He's only 5 and half and very bike lazy.
I bought him a nice bike (Hoy Bonaly) last year which he started using with stabilisers. I bribed him with a large Lego set to start learning to ride without them - he did a couple of sessions with half effort and motivation and did pick it up pretty well with a few short spins around the park. However this year he will only ride the bike with stabilisers back on so I've given up pushing him to do it properly :p I'll let him go at his own learning pace.

off my Fulcrum Racing Quattro Carbon (shimano hub) - think I've found them. £1.50 but puts wheels out of action! Think I can steal the pawl spring off my Zonda's in the meantime.

I think it will, pretty sure all campag and fulcrum hubs use the same pawl/spring setup, even through the different axles they offer
