Road Cycling

^ truth.

Disregard safety, acquire speed.

Fond memories of descending Coll De Femenia to Pollensa whilst hauling ass away from a dark rain cloud and also the MPV which promptly disappeared from view. Giving me for the most part a clear run back to Pollensa  Damn that was good!

Haha! I'm still convinced he's got a motor as that's not a very steep slope to gain speed (even in that aero position) on riders which look to be pushing on. Unless it's staged of course!

I think in his first video his cranks were also spinning, like a motor! ;)

Cause he's riding a fixie.

They redid the tarmac on that road (MA-10) last sumer and I rememeber hitting some good speed on that descent!
....on the full aero bike.

Loved every minute of that climb & descent.

Yep, it with smooth as a smooth thing in October

I've heard that a large portion of the Formentor road is going to be closed to buses & cars from summer 2018 with only motorbikes and small minibuses permitted :) Should kill the queues!

Now if they'd do the same for Calobra... bit too much Tourism down there for that though!

Short legs, long torso problems :p

To be honest I think my arms are generally more bent than that while on the hoods... so the result when I use the drops is not much change in torso height. I need to somehow experiment with position.

Yeah, I tend to spent most time on the hoods and if the wind is feeling particularly bad I might bend the elbows a lot more to compensate.
I'm the same really, but I also have shorter arms... 5'7"-ish and always struggle with legs and arm warmers being too long.

I quite like the position with my little fingers hooked behind levers and 'pulling' my fingers against the tops of my Shimano 685 shifter hoods (little bit bigger than my 5800 ones due to hydra reservoirs). I find it 'aero' as I'm able to really bend my elbows to 90 degrees as you mention, really dropping my torso (more so than the drops).

Rule of thumb, aka, absolute law = Top tube descending will result in the rider being labelled a complete and utter b-end unless they are in fact in the process of performing a Stevo Cummings/Tim Wellens level of solo escape from the bunch. It is worth noting that the level of b-end'ness achieved by top tube descending is far lower than levels achieved via ownership of a super slick aero machine complete with aero wheels when the only level of competition you see is that of Strava KOMtwattery*

*Primarily it is because it indicates you have more money than most.... and vote Tory therefore. ****.
#Fraserant! :D

Sagan is the toptube king & Froomey can be blamed for bringing it to the masses... Had a guy do it last weekend on some very shallow downhills as I was overtaking on a group ride. Glad he had some good control and was a strong rider otherwise I'd have asked him to stop!

If you aren't a "gifted descender" you gotta get aero.:p
'gifted descender' = no fear & mad as a box of frogs? :p

Always wondered why I wasn't that good at descending...! I tend to get anywhere around 40mph and find it 'fast enough'! Guess I'm just at that age where thoughts of the expense of coming off outweighs any thrill of the speed and danger. I'm not that worried about me (I tend to bounce), just my bike & kit!

The cadence is too low for those speeds? Unless he's riding a 56*11 everywhere! Getting away from the lights would be a little painful!? ;)

"Gifted descender" is my polite way of saying carrying a few extra lbs.;)
Hahaha, ooops!

most lower level group rides the descents are "won" by fat lads and ex mountainbikers.
You are right... I have some friends I ride with who eat a few more cakes than me and ride nowhere near as much... Really have to chase them on some descents (while they're freewheeling)!

Eugh that ride tonight was grim, was a bit dark when I went out but tried to head in the direction of blue skies. Lasted for about 40 mins then it came down. Garmin reckoned it dropped to 2c. So cold by time I got home.
