Plan on popping into central London on Sunday to watch the London-Surrey Classic, anyone else doing the same?

Might try and catch the depart at St. James' park but don't really have any idea on the best place for spectating!

Anyone recommendations for those who've been before?

Yep, definitely do a dry run at home. You don't want to find out your tyre levers are crap at the point of actually needing them.

Amen to that.

I had a puncture on my wide rimmed DT Swiss wheels on the Great Manchester Cycle a couple of years back and I'd never had to fix a puncture on them before, until then. My Toepeak multitool tyre levers were far too weak for the job and I snapped one when trying to get the tyre over the rim. Because of the wide rim they are a total nutache to get back on!

So there I was, sat on the pavement, in the rain, having been overtaken by everybody and his dog, with only one tyre lever and trying to get the tyre back over. I managed in the end but it was a catalyst for me to buy those sturdy Park Tools ones for 50p or whatever. Even with those though, my tyres are a total pain. My heart sinks every time I get a puncture.

Could use it to fill up air at a petrol station I guess :D
*BANG*!

I've spotted this with my VIRB and considered a helmet mount the better option when trying to catch 'everything I see'. I do have a helmet mount for mine but I know from when wearing it snowboarding (with a much heavier helmet) that it 'feels' heavy on top - a light cycling helmet would feel even worse! A lighter camera (Gopro session) would work loads better on helmet.
Thanks, bit pricey! Ideally I'm looking for a cheaper option than buying some Radarlock or Jawbreakers lol ;)

Those Park Tool levers are awesome! I broke probably 6 or 8 before I started using them a year or so ago and have only broken 1. Still have tight tyre issues on my Continentals, had them with Mitchelins too and the Schwabe's on the mrs'. On 3-4 different makes of rims too so I consider it normal now! When people talk about being able to refit a clincher without levers I laugh (inwardly!) as there's no way I can even comprehend being able to do that with any of mine!:rolleyes::o

I'm tempted though you get a better view of the race from TV aha. I think last year I caught some of it watching the big screen in Kingston and saw them fly over Kingston Bridge. Probably best to find an area with a big screen.

Ouch, damn & utterly gutted for your bike! :(

Hope they throw the rule book at him/her - if anything you should get more 'support' being a cyclist from police on the continent than you get over here. Then again, you're a brit on holiday so they may even side with the local! One thing you can be sure of with continental police is their inconsistencies - at least over here you can guess what they're going to do (path of least resistance/paperwork).

Hope it's all sorted easily and painlessly. At least with a company like Bikmo they should have experience of similar incidents/claims.
Report! Got it on camera? Local authorities like to make examples of those kinda guys (who are usually contract drivers rather than council employees).

I'm not sure what will happen with the police if anything, it all seemed like a bit of black hole to be honest in terms of getting an incident number and all that. The worst bit was they took my bike back to the station when I went to hospital and when I turned up the next morning no-one could find it. Fortunately an officer on duty the previous day turned up and found it in the end!

I can't fault their approach and attitude on the day but unless they push charges from their side then I have no idea how to do it from here. They took statements and details etc so who knows, I might get a phone call months from now asking for more information. Although I'm over the initial anger/shock, I think I would still push for charges if possible because frankly the bloke is very lucky he scrubbed off enough speed to only leave me with minor injuries.

Bikmo are processing my claim now and will look to reclaim the costs from his insurance if their underwriters approve it. I can't fault how efficient they have been in the whole process. It's only taken 4 days to get the claim pulled together and submitted and they say a decision is due in 48 hours.

Yeah, they'll be gone in seconds watching them set off in Central, but I cba heading down to the Surrey hills and setting up there.

I think I'll catch the depart, then head to Green Park as they've got it on a big screen and chill out, and maybe catch the end at the Mall if I'm still about :)

Lezyne have a stand at the Cycle Show for the Ride100. Can get a Deca Drive for £85. Quite tempted...
Been very happy with my 1 and only Lezyne light (Macro Duo) and would happily use a Deca Drive too! Fairly sure I've seen club guys with them and they're pretty well regarded.

Good to hear Bikmo are nice and efficient, hopefully with it going through so quick it means they have all the info they need from the other party/police & hope the Police process it correctly! :)

Sounds horrible, especially for it to happen when away on holiday, hope you'd had some good days riding before it happened!? :(

anyone know if france and belgium are still banning disc brakes for large sportives?

Looking at Paris-Roubaix and Flanders again. I want do use my disc bike.

Couldn't bring myself to like the yellow spoke on the Mavic rims, just looked wrong on my bike. So they are now demoted to my commuter.

Treated myself to some new wheels why they are on offer instead :)

It was the Deca Drive Loaded version. Comes in a sweet case. The shoe had a lot of people there. Also picked up.some Torq stuff. Won't use a lot of it on Sunday as I haven't used their stuff before. Should be OK though really as it's all natural unlike SiS and others.

Hi guys,

My bike has Shimano 4600 Tiagra all round except for the brakes and I'm not happy with them... will I be okay ordering some Shimano 4700 Tiagra brakes to replace them?

The shifters are Shimano 4600 Tiagra :)

Thanks.

It'll work, but don't bother. Buy 105 or ultegra brakes instead. They're all Super SLR standard so all roughly interchangeable, so you may as well get some better ones if you're making the change.
