Glad to hear the rehab is going OK Jonny. The hardest part is being sensible and sticking to your plan when you're used to being active but it's worth it long term.

Has anyone spotted any bargain deals on framesets anywhere? Looking for something to replace my written off Supersix Evo I got for £749 from Pauls Cycles. There's nothing really jumping out at me at the moment. I'm not really fussed on what frame, I liked the Supersix but never really loved it, it was just a good deal.

Must say, having ridden a "pro" level frameset now, there's no way I'd pay RRP for one. It was certainly good but not worth £2k+.

Roady, you can adjust the throw of the levers via a screw in the top of the hoods, under the cap. See GCN video.
I know mate, I was trying to indicate the 'throw' or movement of the brake cable within the shifter is hardly different between 'groupsets' so you can (in theory) mix and match shimano calipers however you want (basically buy the best you can 'afford'). I was so impressed with my £20 a piece 5800's I was kicking myself I hadn't done it sooner & now I would probably try some 6800's when the time comes.
Diary entry week 5 after keyhole.
Great to hear you're progressing well & taking it steady! Bike looks superb, not normally a fan of coloured tires (except tan walls!) on modern bikes but they look great on retro! :D

You can indeed. I have massive spade palms and teeny tiny chipolata fingers, so it's been a revelation to be able to wind in the levers on my 5800 equipped bike and actually be able to reach the brakes from the drops.

Wiggle CS awesomeness strikes again.

Evans are selling the Gabba 2 cheaply so I asked Wiggle to match. Wiggle refused based on the fact that black and red were out of stock in the size I wanted. Other colours are in stock.

I've replied with a bit of a rant about how stupid the reasoning is. If they're happy to price match other colours why does it matter if they then send out a different colour option?

Are they genuinely shower proof 120-140 seems a lot for a short sleeve, but I guess you can accompany with arm warmers
I would only be buying fluoro or red for visibility on more expensive tops.
( Wiggle have the womens version at 100 so could aggress them with discrimination )

It clearly does matter about the colour option. Otherwise you'd be happy to take whatever colour Evans have in stock.

It's normal for shops to sell off the stock of colours/sizes that people dont want at reduced prices...

Very jealous of that bike! The colour is very marmite, you're right there. The rest of it though, looks incredible.

I will be interested to see how nippy it feels up climbs now. People say that the Roubaix isn't as nippy as the Tarmac, and I guess it's down to the more relaxed geometry and the Zertz inserts. I'm actually quite tempted to buy one of the seatposts, but they are £150 :(

This would be a fair point but given their return policy on swapping clothing if you buy the wrong size/colour the whole thing becomes ridiculous.

Nice bike Roady!

Got my cycling mojo back today for the first time in a month (partly spurred on by the Strava profiles of the people I'm doing an imperial century with in a few weeks...) and did my first out and back ride. 65 miles to the coast and back with a slightly different route for half of the return leg. Good fun and I think that type of ride suits me more than the loops that I usually do, mainly because I got to stop for an ice cream :o Sort of mis judged the energy provision of a mint choc chip cone as I was flagging on the way back and had to down a gel with just 6 miles to go to get me home. Other than that and massive un-forecast downpour when I was just a few miles from home it was a good day out.

Yeah I immediately got a screwdriver and went out to my bike (in the rain) after that GCN video as I too am 'un-normal' (I have small-ish hands and my fingers are quite dumpy). I'm assuming I can do the same on the 785's...?

The colour looks a lot less bright in person, it's more a creamy greeny-yellow than a yellowy-green. It felt good climbing last night, the weight is similar to my Defy (9.5kg) so it's no dainty-floaty-hillclimber but I imagine with thinner tires (25mm's) and some rims with less spoke count you'd get it under 9kg. The wheels are not heavy, the front felt very similar to the RS81 I have (~1500g wheelset) which was quite unexpected as with the spokes and rotor I imagined it to be more similar to my campag khamsin (2000g+ wheelset).

When ridden the rotational inertia is very low, even with the zertz if I stamped on the pedals it went like a scalded cat!

The frame physically feels 'bigger' than my Defy, but lighter. The downtube and toptube are very wide and the bottom bracket area is 'chunky'. It felt really stiff when climbing last night, wheels definately with less 'flex' than the RS81's!

They are showerproof but they are quite a thick weave fabric so not really recommended for warmer weather. They also do the Perfetto which is a lighter fabric so probably better for warmer weather (and just as much money...) and finally, there's the Imprevisto which is intended for warm and wet summer weather. It's loads less money than the others but I don't know anyone with one to judge what it's like... I'm betting it just has a coating on the fabric (ala nano-flex) which wears off with use/washes.
Buy the wrong colour then get return it to swap?
This! I've not done it recently but I do have a couple of new pairs of 'bargain' gloves to return in odd/sizes colours as they went EOL (well worth watching out for lol) ;)
£24 each on Wiggle and picked my first one up for £19.99 and the second for £22, 6+ months ago... Certainly worth hunting around!

Ah. Thought that seemed like a slightly better than usual price... I guess perspective skewed by fact Ultegra pair is quite a bit more!

I know what you mean. I like my SS6 Evo HM. Its built into a really good bike but there isn't the love that I have for the Wilier Izoard. Like you it really made me glad I didn't splurge £2k on a frame. Having said that the ride quality and handling are better. It will certainly do me for a year or three. I reckon Colnago C61/c62 for my 50th will be the next one I get!

I sort of expected to point it up a hill and be amazed but I never was, it didn't feel any stiffer than my old CR1. It's a heck of a lot lighter though so I guess that's an achievement. It comes into its own on descents though, handling was a massive improvement. Very stable and responsive.

Yes, it's a bit too hard! I keep pushing on but I really do have to think about reeling it in for the short term.

Steel frames look better. Fact. Skinny tubes ftw.

EDIT: This post could be considered a response to both the above posts :D
*Aluminium, cough :D

I think these are genuine NOS survivors from the early 00's. Lovely and soft, but not sticky.

New steed has arrived, day before a camping holiday so no chance of riding it for at least a week  Did turn up a month early though so very happy!
