Pics of my new bike... in spoilers because size yo.

Subtle, huh? It's the mango point ar frameset in "nuclear green". Aluminium, mudguards and rack mounts, big big tyre clearances.

Dem welds. The bottom bracket is much gnarlier, but that's the way it goes. Internal cabling for the gears, which was a bit of a faff. I ended up taping a super duper cadence magnet to a cooking skewer and fishing around up the end of the downtube to get one of the cables out.

Deda Zero finishing kit looks pretty badass. Lizardskins dsp tape feels good and was a doddle to apply as it was more than long enough and the endy sticky bits were actually properly sticky for once. Hopefully it rides well. SRAM Apex groupset on there, so only ten speed but should be fine. I'll need to get used to the different shifters!

Apex gears - 50/34 up front and 11-32 at the rear which will be interesting for climbing as I'm used to a 28 on my other bikes. The bottom bracket was a bit weird to fit as the instructions were unclear about whether to use spacers, but I got there. I don't hear great things about gxp so I'm hoping it holds up, otherwise I'll have to replace it with a token bb or something.

TRP Spyre cable actuated disc brakes. Unfortunately I got the wrong size discs! I have 14cm ones but the posts on the frame are for 16cm ones, so the calipers only bite the very edge of the rotor. I've ordered some 16cm ones which should get to me mid week sometime. Once they're fitted I'll give it a test ride.

That's a beauty Vonhelmet, good work. Loving the colour as well. Mind me asking how much for the complete build?

Bike looks nice build. I personally don't like compact geo frames. Love the colour and finish though. I'll be putting together a winter build. Recyling my campag stuff but going cable disc with it.

Nice bike Von! Is this to replace your commuter? Seems to nice to do that.

Are ********* solar powered or something? So much abuse on today's ride. Saddening. :(

"Get in ****ing single file mate"
"Why? So you can get to this traffic quicker?"
"**** off"

Geez.

On a more positive note, bike looks great Von.

Having to give someone the v's whilst tting is always fun...

About a grand. £270 for the frame, £300 for SRAM Apex (from which I sold the brakes for £20), £110 for disc brakes, £130 for wheels, about £200 for finishing kit and a few other nick nacks like bottle cages and a frame pump and so on.

This is to replace my winter bike, which was an old Carrera TDF, which I've now sold. I'll be using it in the winter, but also for offroad riding and for winter commuting with ice tyres.

The Tour of the Peak ride today was excellent : 61 miles with 6,500 ft of climbing and I came out of it with 96 PR's :) Sadly no new max speed records as there were too many cars in the way :(

Chapeau!

We went up Winnats on our Saturday ride: https://www.strava.com/activities/975870745 - you were two minutes quicker than me - did it hurt a lot? :D

Followed up with another 90k today: https://www.strava.com/activities/975870717. We hoovered up some tired looking riders from the TotP going from Brierlow Bar up past Chelmorton.

Had to crop the end off my second ride as I'd left my Garmin in the car but only auto-paused, so it logged part of the trip home. How do you get the overall ride length correct? The altitude profile shows 76.7km but total still shows 89.7km

Out with BennyC for a coaching ride this morning to teach me some useful techniques. Some of the climbs....my god. I gained a huge amount of respect for anyone on a bike at a decent level now, those were very minor climbs but they damn near killed me towards the end, yet Ben just casually riding up them as if he was off to collect the Sunday paper

Did well on some challenging grades for a newbie

Almost got to witness his right of passage! but alas he was too quick. First junction we came to. I have a feeling if it had been the end of the ride I'd have been able to get a photo :p

Dat grind son.

was that up near Ladybank ??- I heard a few comments that it was a poor stretch of road/roundabout etc.

Yeah, Freuchie out past Ladybank on the A92 at lunch time on a Sunday....
We arrived in the morning to some bloke who had just setup roadworks on the course. Everyone got their start time pushed back an hour and then there was an accident on a road nearby which meant all the traffic was being diverted onto the course. It meant all the late starters were riding in traffic and it was pretty dire. Lots of unhappy people of course but the alternative was the event being cancelled on the morning.
You just don't expect this sort of thing at a National event. The course itself is not geared up for a National event IMO, it's fine for club 10's but for a Scottish Cycling event it just screamed out last minute/best we can manage situation.
When you put 3 months of training to something and spend a whole weekend away from home/travelling, you just expect to be able to give it a good go and not have stupid things get in the way. Meh.

well said - surely for a morning/afternoon a closed road for a national event isn't too much to ask!
