Road Cycling

Opening round of the tour series today here in Redditch.
Course goes straight past my office so get to see the build up.
Mens race starts at 7.15pm & itv4 has highlights on tomorrow evening.

Hoping to get a few freebies & bargains on the stalls after work! :D

Has anyone done a Tour de Ford ride? Sounds like a freebie sportfive:

I did it when Jaguar sponsored Team Sky - sounds like the same thing though. It was a nice day out. about 40-50 people turned up and we were split into 4 groups, each with a "leader" on a bike. I knew pretty much everyone that turned up so it was more like a club run. There was only 1 support car and they didn't dish out any spare dogmas when people punctured. They did have a track pump though.
Plenty of sandwiches, cakes and coffee at the end and I didn't feel pressured into impulse buying a Jag.

Sounds similar to the one @SoliD did? Is it similar to the one he 'won' and got a trip to the Sky training camp (with lots of freebies)?

None of them local to me anyway, boo :(

Hipsters in London will be devastated.
When they arrive at the coffee shop on their fixies, the sad face tweets posted from their Apple Macs shall be glorious.

Heh, their stuff was just inferior to Rapha in style, function and marketing!

Basically... 'We raised a million on crowdfunding last year so were easily able to justify our vastly overpriced products without actually requiring sales profits from them. We got so greedy that when crowdfunding came up short prior to the 2017 range being produced we were unable to cover manufacturing costs, missing deadlines and coming up short of actual physical product to sell. We have no money left as we all got so greedy so we're taking the easy option of going into administration rather than paying our manufacturers. '

Over marketed, over priced, over hyped, below average, untested products. Good riddance! Nick Hussay should be ashamed and brought to account for the stake/shareholders.

That comes round quickly every year. Nice evening for it :)

Tbh the cycling world is jammed packed full of marketing BS. The journos are all in on it so it's a minefield - you don't know who to trust, if anyone at all. You've just got to pick your way through it somehow and spend your money wisely. I tend to try find real people's opinions, but it's often not easy. Bike reviews are the funniest - some of the terminology is utter cack - according to them a bike can be compliant/smooth/stiff/alert & connected all at the same time. They've got their pet phrases too - "the bike surges forward with every pedal stroke" is one that boils my *iss.

On Vulpine - with a bit of luck Nick Hussay offered up some personal guarantees, that'll learn him, maybe go down as a lesson to other BS wannabe's - send a message out to the industry.

Every bike is eleventy billion percent stiffer than the same bike was last year.

Just one more day of these easterly winds that will get replaced by a southerly, changing which roads become easier or harder, as www.mywindsock.com can show you when linked to your Strava account. Not such a big deal on training rides, but I'm looking forward to not having a headwind on my homeward commute after a day at work doing a semi-physical job!
