Road Cycling

Prommuting. Not really sure if Strava have any algorithm to determine that your ride is point to point for Global Bike to Work day. I did a round trip - no cycling to work!

I know it is a more realistic average, but I like to feel better about myself by not including the million times I stop at traffic lights.:p
I find myself torn between wanting a high average speed and wanting to not unclip. High average means belting up to the lights and then braking hard, then accelerating hard to hit cruising speed. No unclipping means seeing the red light in the distance and then rolling up at 3mph in the hope I can wait it out and start again without unclipping.

Cracking morning for getting a pedal in! Got the Mrs to work and used it as 'training' by pushing her 80% of the time.

Popped by work and went a longer way home to try big ringing a climb similar to the one the bundy goes up. Isn't as twist or quite as steep but similar length.

Someone had broken down on the narrow bridge so I've started from the pavement with no momentum but a 53 25-23 felt doable.

We will see how that works later tonight haha.

I've found using GPS for speed can sometimes result in auto-pausing if you are grinding up a tree-covered steep climb. Not the end of the world but can affect your segment time if you're trying to PB!:p

Agreed, I use a speed sensor all the time due to it! So much averaging takes place with GPS, not to mention the delay. Although this does lead to a different 'Strava' reading of our average speeds (I usually find it's ~0.2mph slower!)

There's quite a few GPS 'black zones' around here, 2 of them include popular hill climbs.
According to my Garmin I was doing 2mph whilst sat in bed the other night.
Sounds similar to mine yesterday, max speed 15.4mph, average 42.4mph...
Nice KOM this morning!

There's quite a 20% ramp in the first segment which makes a mockery of the average, the second segment is much more gradual. Tricky to compare the two!

Didn't realise that one got so steep at that ramp, the second one feels harder as it has wee hairpin like corners on it. I'll be aiming to hit the second one fresher than last week rather than attacking towards it spelling a guy who is up there in races...

I had the KOM already so :o

Hopefully they aren't as bad as the P6000...

I'll be a Vittoria man soon, getting a pair of corsa G+ for nout so I'll give them a shot.

That's the plan anyway, hopefully they send two pairs for me and the boss. My front gp4000s is pretty square.

On my second set now and quite like them. Probably better gumwalled tyres available but they're moderate value, offer good protection and do inspire confidence in most conditions.

The GP4000sii on my Speedmax feel a little grippier but I need to transfer them over to my roadie for a fair comparison. That said I have ridden them on my roadie but with my TT wheels (404/808) so not a true comparison.

Powersense details:

Any questions?

My own:
  • ANT+ only? (No Bluetooth)
  • Unit weight? (For the weenies)
  • What tolerance does the 10KG weight require for accurate calibration?
  • Presumably the mention of superglue and other adhesives means it's not easily transferable between chainsets?
  • By top edge, do you mean the inner edge as with the 4iii/Stages? If so are there any clearance requirements or unit dimensions you could give?
  • Is collection from & payment at Oxford available?
  • Standard 1 year warranty?
  • Any other prerequisite settings required such as crank length to ensure an accurate/consistent read?
  • Estimated battery life & type required, presumably a CR2032?

I use auto pause but include 0 power data. If i'm not moving or costing DH then avg power data should be less to reflect the rest you've had.

Is this a continuation of my post? This is the reason I use auto pause because all power data should include 0s.

Good! Read about this yesterday, it sounds utterly horrible even though he provoked the response - he shouts at her for using her phone when she pulls out in front of him, she shouts abuse at him and gives him the finger, he kicks her wingmirror and rides away, she chases after him in car, knocking him off and into a tree! :o

Sure hope she was fined and given points rather as well as the 3 year jail term, as lets face it, 3 years in jail = actually 12 months, probably a suspended sentence too, then they'll waive it over some human rights grievance.

Any questions?
What's a Powersense? :p

Self attached PWM that just superglues to your crankarm? What could possibly go wrong...!
