Road Cycling

I don't know about the gradient, I just know it's chuffing steep when I drive up and down it.

Foam roll. Beat the pain with more pain.

Warm up, stretch, roll, stretch. Plenty of water & nutrient dense food. + time. + harden up.

Stretching & rolling without warming up is counterproductive. I.E at least walk up and down the stairs a few times, a few bodyweight squats, RDL/SLDL's or lunges.

Deep carbon rims with disc for commuting fo lyfe.

haha, how are you finding yours? crosswinds = death?

How's the getting fat, lazy and slow treating you? To be honest I thought you'd gone the whole hog and now drove a white van revving your engine at every cyclist who comes near... ;) :p

fat but not that slow lol https://www.strava.com/activities/644833309

I literally just commute, do not ride during the weekends at all :O not so much that I dislike it, but just too busy doing other things!

plus this summer has been a disappointment..

doms is something you gotta learn to live with if you're hitting your muscles hard.

I get doms every week, not bad doms but muscles hurt, back, shoulders, chest, biceps etc.

not cycling related but gym alone does it. Ignore it and learn to live with it imo ha.

Paid my £295 to drive about 1/2 as many miles as I cycle yesterday actually! :(:(:(

£490 coming up soon... silly Mazda engine! I wish they'd charge it based on how many miles people actually do... pretty sure I do far less emissions damage than most cars per year.

I hit my muscles hard and don't get Dom. I only get it if I have not worked out for a while

Annoyed that my Eddington number is only 59. I've done tons of long rides this year

edit: zomgz - You need 6 more days (of 60 miles or more) to achieve an Eddington number of 60

It gets harder to increase it as you do more long rides. I need one more to get to 44, so I should nail that pretty soon, but I need another 9 to get to 45 so that'll probably take me until sometime next year as I usually only manage one ride of over 40 miles each month.

Yeah. I honestly thought I'd done more than that this year though. Oh well :)

Looks like the jump from 61 to 62 won't be too tough. Especially as most of my rides of 60 miles or more tend to be metric centuries and as such are over 62 miles.

Absolutely, sub 4 hours is incredible pace on a course like that - fairly technical in places and a bit lumpy.

(Sorry Londers, the hills aren't really hills though) :p

I read some comment about 100 mile riders walking up Sawyers Hill in Richmond Park. I imagine they were delighted at the sight of Leith Hill :p

I've often wondered why Box Hill always seems to fall under the media spotlight. Its like a little lump that isn't even very steep!

Does Ride London attract the super pro elite because these times that are being talked about are very impressive! I've only done one 100 mile sportive and we finished with a moving time of just under 6 1/2 hours and we easily passed others vs being passed at a rate of 10 to 1.

I must admit that even a very spread out sportive (helped by us starting 20 minutes late due to an exploding tyre in our group!) got my bum twitching as someone who only rides solo. Random swerving seemed to be the order of the day and I probably looked like a try hard idiot when I overtook some people out of the saddle giving it some beans but there were people who literally were all over the road and whom a call of "on your right" caused them to instantly weave right while looking over their left shoulder  I wanted to be alongside them for as little time as possible :p

It does sound quick, but no faster than your average Cat 2 road race really, just a bit longer. I knew a lot of the guys in the front group as they nearly all race locally.

Anyone ever used bobshop.com for cycling clothing?

I used them a few weeks ago for a Dimension Data cap. Postage costs were a bit steep coming from Germany but I really wanted the cap. Service was fine and they provided postage tracking. If I recall correctly it was handled by Royal Mail once it hit the UK.

Thanks that's great. :)
