My current track pump & previous mini pump are non-threaded. Much quicker & easier imo and no risk of removing a valve core when the pump secures by a lever/cam system.

With the Lezyne mini pumps, the trick is to just leave them for a minute after pumping to let the valve cool down so it doesn't bite when removing the hose.

Maybe I shouldn't have said "ramp".
Yup the 'ramp' part got me thinking too much! ;)

It'd be nice if we had some more gradual long climbs around the UK than the plethora of ramps!

Interesting almost related fact, we've booked to go on holiday to a friends apartment in Spain next year. It's in 'Los Alcazares' which isn't *that* far from the Sierra Nevada... Maybe I need some more specific training before tackling 'Pico Veleta'? :D

I'd meant the valve extensions, as with almost all presta valves being threaded I didn't see any reason for the valve extensions not being the same...?

Seems like I've spent most of today misunderstanding things, time to do some work ;)

He didn't mean specifically you and your incredible pumping action due to your guns, just everyone in general... ;)

If one guy can't tell another guy how fabulous he is looking then we're all doomed. ;)
:D

Especially when it comes to team kit, have to say the Paceline kit looks great!

I wonder what criteria they are using to determine your start wave from Strava?

I'm after a new set of Carbon integrated Bars - I don't suppose anyone has a recommendation like this at all?

My recommendation for carbon bars is "don't buy Chinese carbon". Unlike wheels, I've never heard good stories.

edit: I of course mean from random Chinese sellers rather than carbon bars specifically made in China.

@alexisonfire has a set which haven't killed him yet... not integrated to the stem mind.

I'd already bought a set of suitable aluminium bars when he got his, there was a 20% weight & £30 saving over the chinese equivalent from memory

I'm wanting to buy my first aero bike. Is it a bad time to buy one now seeing that UCI have changed the rules on frames. We could be seeing new 2019 frames?

Really wanting a Canyon Aeroad but don't want a radically different 2019 frame out as I can easily wait till then. Never liked the look of the Orbea Orca but the Orca Aero is gorgeous. If the Aeroad got the same sort of treatment I would happily wait.

Are Continental tyre sponsors for the event? Maybe earlier waves of all continental tyre riders for promotion?

The other is probably looking at how many followers you have to judge how much support you'll have at the finish for the cameras... Popular finishers first!

Is it really next week? I'll be doing it - hoping to make the finish this time :p
& @merlin, have a good ride guys! Weather looks pretty good for the whole weekend & week afterwards so fingers crossed it continues for you!

More kudos = earlier wave
Haha yeah, they might even be doing some clever analysis to look at power/speeds to categorise riders into pens of similar riders. Maybe even looking to see if you've ridden the route before to check approximate finishing times.

Imagine how 'interactive' they could make it with previous ride data onto some TV coverage overlay - "rider #34298 climbing, a minute faster than his time last year at this point but heart-rate is 10% higher!" :D

Ha they had that shoe bike at the exhibition at RideLondon this year.

Well maybe... but are Strava giving them my data without asking me? The only thing they could reasonably obtain from my profile page is how many miles I avg/week and cycled this year / overall + the hours. I guess that gives them an avg speed but I wouldn't suggest it has any hint of accuracy as people ride at different paces for different rides. MTB etc.

I suppose it's possible they could search segment data for people's athlete ID and then find examples of their rides or previous attempts at the RideLondon but seems unlikely. If you've ridden it before they'd surely know that and could obtain your finishing time from their own data.

yep me too - 72 miles and 3400ft climbing is enough for me these days :)

I'm interested in seeing what increase I can get in my average - last time round (which was only 5 or 6 months ago) was wet & cold and I'd never ridden a sportive before so probably didn't pace it too well, averaged 14.7mph over the 73 miles. Interested to see what sort of increases I can get on that.

Yes just try not to break anything this time!

Interesting article but I'm unsure of the real Source as they say it's a sponsored post by cyclepowermeters.com who do seem to sell every brand mentioned so should be fairly unbiased? I think basically I'm after the more technical writeup than the 'press' article showing which specific PWM's where used and there's no mention on the cyclepowermeters.com site. Meh. Ideally want to check they used a Powertap C1 to confirm mine is included in those good results! ;)

Still pretty scathing for Stages regardless. :o

Speaking of Continental... :D
Damn that looks uncomfortable! Expensive in 'tyres'...!

Well maybe... but are Strava giving them my data without asking me?
I wouldn't expect so but then equally if your profile is set as public they can easily get at your specific data anyway. As you mention - you can get quite a lot just from an 'overview' of a private profile anyway...!

Oooh before I forget... Chain has done ~1000 miles so around 50% 'worn' (I hope!). 105 RD has always been noisy and I've grabbed a new Ultegra as a replacement. I've got a replacement Ultegra cassette too but I'm going to hold off changing that until it's time to change my chain... But would you think 'safe' to change RD before then anyway? My current thinking is yes, as it's not as if a RD carries much force from a chain and needs to wear in the same way as a chain/cassette/chainrings...

I'm overdue a good clean and service. While doing that I'm swapping my mech hanger and swapping my 'new' (non-SCS) one over (for hub measurements before I buy new one). So if I'm swapping hangers around, also swapping the RD at the same time makes sense.
