Road Cycling

He had one of those :p
Ah, I didn't know, maybe he wanted another? :p

Not sure I see the reason to move from the Propel to a mid spec bike to be honest. Just let a little air out of the tyres.
The Propel is quite known for having rubbish tyre clearance, some 25's rub and wider rims are a no-go. The rear cut out (like the Cervelo S3 & R3) is just too close. It's also quite a stiff/harsh ride as it's an aero race bike before anything else. Not to mention the sometimes suspect pull caliper brakes causing some issues for some people (lack of power!).

The new Propel of course is the natural evolution of the road bike (*hides from xdcx*) = disc brakes and 28mm tyres as standard... :D

Seen the Bianchi / Ferrari collab? I think it looks **** and it's 15k lol

It's nice but nothing more than a Black & Red 'standard' looking frame... Nothing special and very 'plain' looking design considering Bianchi's and Ferrari's flair and pedigree... Disappointed. :(

Purely Keo now not SPD SL - I will be giving a miss, not got any issues with my Vector 2s whatsoever.
They're on my radar for the future... But mostly because of the regular deals on Garmin devices and the Vector 2's. There's hardly any deals (or even price drops) on the Powertap P1. Maybe now there will be! :D

Take a look at my last Strava entry, far from road bike surfacing and this is just the start of the bad weather over here!
Beautiful part of the world though!

What are your requirements? Cobbles (tyre volume & wide rim width) & mudguards? Panniers? Comfort for commuting, or just a weekend berg/cobble hack around with the Propel for the nice weather?

EDIT: Have a good weekend all. Good weather forecast here tomorrow but dire rain & winds for sunday... Good luck you Mad autumn hare guys! :o

Club ride for the morning is a hilly one and my legs have felt rubbish all week... Still. It's just the type of training I need with some long gradual drags and ramps! :D

Yeah the miles I've done so far have been entertaining!

Decent tyre width, thinking 37 ish would be ok. Mudguards would be nice but an ass saver might suffice.

No need for panniers, but comfort is required for the commuting and when the surface doesn't favour the Propel.

Mixture of cobbles, gravel and tow paths so far. Keeping the Propel when it's dry and I know the routes safe!

Do love the look of the steel bikes but is comfort compromised compared to the modern offerings?

In general terms I'd probably reckon on steel coming between aluminium and carbon for comfort, but it probably depends more on the frame quality, geometry, tyres, etcthan anything else. My Mango Point AR is chunky aluminium, but with 35c tyres at 50-60 psi it's well bouncy.

Winter has arrived.

I popped through the park on a ride this evening and the temperature felt a good 2-3C lower in there. Chilly!

Not looking quite so dire on the met office as google, 10 vs 5 @ 7AM. The peak temperature for the days generally has only fallen a few degrees but is only held for a few hours late afternoon rather than from late morning.

Brace yourselves. Turbo time is coming :p

My wife has been going on about how "the seasons have shifted" and that's why spring was like winter, and summer was like spring and now autumn will be like summer. Sorry, no, that's impossible, it's just crap weather.

Club run this morning was a little flatter than usual and with no separate top group I did bert-stare a few of the riders that frequent the slower routes deciding to join us. Wasn't long before the group was splintering and there were moans about riding through at the top of climbs and not stopping immediately. Excuse me while I decide to spin out and not stop dead and let my legs melt :o ...

Few punctures split us up anyway so we got to hammer it at the end :D

Top lad! Good average speedzzzz.

Dover's hill looks like fun!

I abandoned my trip to a 10 minute climb that I did at the start of the year, no doubt I am faster but the weather is crap today. Still nabbed a cheeky KOM from one of the guys I ride with so not a total waste of a day.

Summer Hare Sportive done today /in the rain

Smashed it : https://www.strava.com/activities/1165901252

Smashed indeed! Awesome speed, especially taking into account the climbing and horrible weather, not to mention some interesting cross winds.

I'd like to say I enjoyed that today but tbh - i didn't, the damp weather gave me cramps on and off, big time cramps at 60 miles and at around 65 miles i just fell to bits - 10 - 12 mph mostly till finish line :(

the damp weather gave me cramps on and off

On what basis have you derived this? :)

I only ask as damp weather causing it sounds a bit odd and whenever I cramped in my earlier years or riding it was due to perspiring more than I realised (particularly with warmers), in essence becoming dehydrated and low on salts. This doesn't mean you necessarily need to drink more but perhaps you should increase the strength of electrolyte mix in your bottles.

I pay more attention to the actual temperature rather than how I feel when contemplating what to wear.

.

I'm only going off that my socks got wet and soon after i got foot cramps, both feet, then calves wet (rain and standing water everywhere, was wearing bib tights) and calves cramped too. It was the calves cramping that really messed me up.

I got through 3 bottles, two with tabs one just plain water. I dunno maybe it was the electrolytes - they were from Aldi! :D

Good podcast by Velonews or Cyclingtips, can't remember which on cramping. Has some actual experts talk about the subject ;)

Salts and electrolytes have almost nothing to do with it.

Men cramp more than women, older people are more likely.

The main cause is pushing yourself beyond your fitness.
