Road Cycling

Woot, got a big torque wrench for doing my pedals. This one goes from 28-210 Nm. Now I just need the crowfoot adapter I ordered and then I can fit my garmin vector pedals.

I now own two torque wrenches. I wasn't expecting that.

I know we have some more technically minded/engineers amongst us so hopefully someone can advise if it's possible and what would be needed...

The 10" desk fan I've used in the past on the turbo is still going strong but something with a much higher airflow would serve me well so a 14-18" high velocity floor fan is on the cards. Most will have a couple of speed settings but aren't remote controlled so would require getting off to crank it up/down.

Is there some sort of variable resistor I could plug 'in-line' with a control closer to the turbo/rollers that I could use? Or would it make more sense to just remove the fan assembly which effectively does this and run some longer cables to/from the fan?

Or just get a broom handle and angle it away as and when :p

I just set my fan on the lowest setting, and let it go. I usually find that's cool enough, as 18" fans move a lot of air. As for an resistor arrangement, not sure how well that would work with something like a floor fan. Given that the fan already has some speed settings to it.

If you want a recommendation on a good fan, I have one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...sfl_title_5?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3RR83O5CUB4PO Bought it last summer to keep the air in the flat moving, I've found lots of use for it outside of just turbo-ing! It's really solid, and has 3 settings. The top setting is very powerful!

Thanks, I'll see how I get on and adopt the broom handle approach for a bit :D

Went for this in the end (my garage gets VERY hot if it's warm out and I generally sweat quite a bit) as I can pick it up tomorrow as I plan on fitting the PM Monday/Tuesday and an FTP test shortly after.

They do an 18" too for £5 less but when in Rome...

I've got similar but need some sort of control mechanism. Luckily it's not turbo weather

Went out for a quick spin first thing this morning and ensure the TT bike is fine for tomorrows 50 miler, just as I went out went past someone who had lots of panniers and a flag, had a wee chat and he was off on a 3 week ride to Poland. Sounded awesome, wished him luck and went off my own way.

Saw him again a bit later as I was doing a simple out and back. Wind was epic, but glad I went out earlier in the day, as the weather was what can only be described as biblical this afternoon.

That sounds like a good distance with time for seeing stuff and beer/frites in between.

So my RD did this today... I guess I can't complain as it was just on the trainer, I was struggling to tune it and it explains why as it exploded in my hand. Lasted 31'000km.

I kind of upgraded, went and bought new Force 22 front & rear derailleurs.

A minor weight difference compared to Red but about 1/4 of the cost! I'll stick with my Red 10 speed shifters then I can upgrade later if I want to.

The spare used Red RD I put on is similar to my old one, difficult to tune and it has a bit of road rash so I expect its life has already been significantly shortened but it's only got to last me a week or two until the new one arrives.

I'm off to my parents today. I might get out for a short one this evening.

I won't hit the same numbers in July as I did in June. I've got a few days when I'm due to work from home or away on training, so that'll cost me commuting miles. I may get out for a big ride next Saturday afternoon. The Mrs and the kids are off to my sister in law's baby shower so I'm free. I'm either going to do a metric around north west Manchester with about 4500ft of climbing (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/6757014) or if I've got the time - like a clear 5 hours - I'll head over to Yorkshire and come back over Cragg Vale. I wouldn't mind some company on the latter if anyone fancied it, given its unfamiliar territory.

This is my pathetic ride for the day: https://www.strava.com/activities/628356263

Had grand plans, but the insole in my right shoe was causing me massive pain :( I might have done my shoe up too tight. Loosening it off didn't seem to make it any better. Once again, I felt a few niggling pains in the back of my right knee.

Back of knee pain usually means that the saddle is too high, but it was low before, and it still caused problems :( Not happy.

Did Stows offer that you can come back if any issues still?

I'll actually be passing similar roads later today. BBQ in Reading so planned a few hills to get there. Winter Hill and Christmas Common mainly.

Yeah, the guy said to get back in touch.

With the insole, it may have just been that the shoe was too tight. Either that, or I just need to go down to the blue insole on that foot (both are Specialized green currently). Blue will probably make the knee a bit worse though. It's weird, as being on the turbo doesn't have any knee pain at all. Whereas on the road, I get the pain :(

Or it could be that when I'm on the turbo I spin more, and don't let my cadence drop as much. Perhaps "mashing" a bit too much is causing my problems.
