Robert Kubica has suffered "serious injuries"

I had heard RK was talking - which is great to hear

Sorry but from what has happened a few seasons ago Kimi doesnt deserve a decent car, (not only was he plainly not interested in his last season in F1, he walked away from the sport over money/ not being offered enough)

Give the spare seat to someone who actually wants to drive - would love Davidson to be given the chance, but dont see that as likely. The Hulk would be a good choice if he can be extraxcted from his testing role. Preferably you need more experience though (and someone who is better than Heidfeld, who is definitely a plodder lol)

Kubica's co driver's account of what happened

Jakub Gerber said:
We knew the surface was slippery because of the humidity and we were ready," Gerber told Gazzetta dello Sport. "After skidding, the car leaned against the guard rail and pushed it outwards. Then it crashed against the following guard rail.

The guard rail pierced through the car and went all the way through it. I immediately saw it was serious, he also had a bad bruise under his eye after hitting the steering wheel. Robert passed out and I exited through the window because the door was stuck.

I find it quite offensive how people are commenting on who should replace Robert given what has just happened to him... if you must discuss which driver is going to fill his seat at Renault then I would recommend starting another thread, as this one should be about Robert and Robert only, imho.

I don't think it's overly bad to talk about who's replacing Kubica, it's just a natural response to this...

I do hope he gets well soon and gets back to being able to race an F1 car again, but as a fan of the sport it's interesting to discuss what will happen due to this.

The reports I have read still sound pretty grim.

From James Allen:
To recap, the latest bulletins from the doctors suggest a horrendous injury to his right arm which caused him to lose a lot of blood and despite some heroics by surgeons, the experts in the field to whom I’ve spoken suggest he will never regain fine motor function in that hand and so his F1 career is unlikely to continue. Of course there are always miracle comebacks, but that is what will be required here for him to race an F1 car again.

Some of the reports have even said he needed 6L of blood during the Op. A lot in any operation.

Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Big crash, hope me makes a swift and full recovery. He definitely has a big part to play in the future of F1.

My money is on Heidfeld replacing him for the [start of the] season

Video from the car behind him on the rally stage.

Fast forward to 3.15.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALbxMiwf4nw&feature=player_embedded#

looking at that video, it appears that the bend was fairly gentle and he just kept his foot in too long, maybe feeling safe after driving an f1 car for so long and surviving canada.

there are photos of the car and the barrier sticks out of the rear hatch by about 3 feet.

looks like it went diagonally left to right at the same time the car swung around about 150 deg while impaled on the barrier.

the road looks much better than I expected, but you would have to drive well below the limit to be safe.

I hope he recovers fully as its a nasty crash and I dont want one of the most impressive drivers on the grid to not be racing.

Lauda has come out with a good point that if he makes a come back we all could be looking at a genuine future champion, which id like to see.

Hope Renault do the sensible thing and have a decent list of people to race that car as Petrov should not be a team leader after his performance's last year and none of the reserve drivers are ready/good enough...

We probably should start a thread on who will run his drive for the year as id almost be annoyed if it was one of the reserve drivers or Klein/Heidfeld

After looking at that video I am amazed he is still alive, you can actually see the barrier going all the way through the car and out of the boot at the other end.

That could so easily of went through a torso and ripped one of them in half.

HOLY ****. He is one lucky man

You should not be able to see daylight through the front of a car..
